Miss Carol Caldwell, EditorThe NUMAFort Smith Junior CollegeGrant Avenue and Waldron RoadFort Smith, Arkansas

Dear Miss Caldwell:

I was nost honored when Congressman Trimble asked me to choose theNUMA beauty for 1958. I will confess, however, it was one of the hardest tasksI have undertaken since coming to the Congress.

The pictures of all of the girls you sent me are lovely. I couldhave chosen any one of them as a fully qualified representative of the beauti-ful and personable women of Arkansas. I have always believed that the stateof my birth made a substantial contribution to the beautiful girls of thenation — and now I know it.

After studying all of the photographs carefully, I have selected oneof them. Then, without indicating which photograph I had chosen, I asked myhusband and my staff members to make a selection. The unanimous choice of allof us is:

MISS CORETTA BURY

Please extend my congratulations to her, and my best wishes for asuccessful and happy life.

Now as to my Arkansas background — I was born on a farm six milesout of Harrison on Cottonwood Road, which was homesteaded by my grandparents,Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wood. I still have relatives in Harrison, Russellville, andin fact, I spent New Year's Eve this year with a cousin in Little Rock.

Judging this beauty contest has been a pleasant break in my congres-sional work. Thank you for giving me the opportunity.

With every good wish for 1958, I am

Sincerely,

GRACIE PFOSTMember of Congress
