Number 147 February 14, 1997 Abrasive Blasting Program - Applications The California Air Resources Board ComplianceDivision is acceptingapplicationsfor certification of abrasives for permissible outdoor blasting. Although applications for certification of new abrasives are accepted at any time, submittal during the current renewalperiod for existing certifications may result in a lower certification fee. In order to ensure that your product will be testedwith the products submittedfor certification renewal, we will need to receive your abrasives by April 15, 1997. The purpose of the abrasive certification program is to restrict the abrasive selected for pennissible dry outdoor blasting operations in order to reduce the generationof [me particles, which are inhalable and contribute to reduced visibility. In order to be certified, the abrasive must contain not more than one percent, by weight, materials passing a #70 U.S. Standard sieve before blasting. After blasting the abrasive must contain not more than 1.8 percent, by weight, material 5 microns or smaller. The producer or manufacturerof an abrasivewhich fails the sieve test may choose to demonstrate that the abrasive meetsa 20 percentopacity emission limit when blasted. The after-blast criteria must be met in either case. A copy of the regulations and a flowchart of the certification processare enclosed. Each grade of the abrasiveyou wish to have certified for permissibleoutdoor blasting must be submitted separately. Abrasive Blasting Program - Applications

The California Air Resources Board Compliance Division is accepting applications for certification of abrasives forpermissible outdoor blasting. Although applications for certification of new abrasives are accepted at any time,submittal during the current renewal period for existing certifications may result in a lower certification fee. In order toensure that your product will be tested with the products submitted for certification renewal, we will need to receiveyour abrasives by April 15, 1997.

A. This application must be filled out completely. Please note that the Plant Location must besufficient to find the facility. A street address is ideal. The Product ComDosition Declaration is only neededif you sell one product under several names.

Ship a minimum 200 lb. sample of each grade of abrasive in five (5) gallon plastic shipping buckets withlids and handles. The contents of each shipping bucket must not weigh more than 40 Ibs. Each plastic,",hipping bucket must be labeled on the outside with the following:
