State Requirements for Completion of the NA Course

• 60 hours verified classroom instruction

• 100 hours verified clinical instruction

• Successful completion of all components of the Chaffey Nursing Assistant program

Chaffey Program Requirements • NURAST 400 3.5 UNITS Nursing Assistant Theory • NURAST 400L 2.0 UNITS Nursing Assistant Laboratory • NURAST 405 0.5 UNITS Nursing Assistant Skills • NURAST 450 1.0 UNIT Professional Development

• Students must take all four courses during the same

session attending.

State Requirements of Entry to Program

• A background check through a fingerprinting process will be done prior to the first day of class. Students must be cleared through CDPH before the first day of class.

• Lab result for : a 10 Panel Drug and Alcohol (urine) screening with negative results

• CPR certification – Healthcare Provider – AHA

• English/Reading Assessment – 6th grade level or higher through Chaffey College counseling dept.

Criminal Background • Those who answered yes to being

convicted of any crime other than minor traffic violation (s) must submit additional information to the state with their application. You must contact DPH directly (916) 327-2445.

• Chaffey College is not responsible nor do we have information regarding Department of Public Health criteria regarding previous convictions.

Student Health Services

• Students currently enrolled at Chaffey can go to Chaffey College Student Health Services (909) 652-6331 to have their health requirements completed

• Student Health Services available at both the Chino and Rancho campuses

Physical • A head-to-toe physical, hearing, vision, and

urine drug test will be performed • 2-step TB test and current flu shot required

• Chaffey needs copies of all lab results and

immunizations • The health form needs to be signed by a

physician or nurse practitioner and the student must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs

CPR Only ONE type of CPR will be accepted: • HealthCare Provider issued through the

American Heart Association • CPR CANNOT be over 1 year old by the end

of the course you are taking. No matter if your card is not expired…it has to be updated yearly to meet Chaffey College requirements

• CPR classes are offered through Chaffey College Community Education department

Acceptance to Current Session • Download from www.chaffey.edu/healthsciences

select Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide: • Interest application • Health form • List for 10 panel drugs plus ethanol

• Application time frame will be posted on the web site and what needs to be turned in (application, health form with immunization record and lab results, CPR card and reading/English assessment from Chaffey College counseling).

• Only complete application packets will be accepted

• Incomplete application packets will be shredded
