Nursing as a profession: expertise for the health and welfare of patientsThe main goals of the nursing profession are to promote and maintain health, prevent disease and help patients of different ages cope with illness.

Nurses work independently and responsibly in diverse health and social care organisations, and their work is based on nursing science. Providing guidance, support, care and rehabilitation to patients of different ages with various illnesses in cooperation with close relatives and other professionals is the heart of every nurse’s daily work.

Nurses must have excellent interaction and customer service skills, flexibility, empathy, and the ability to work in different teams. Nurses are able to make independent decisions and take responsibility for them. The work also requires good coordination skills and the ability to work under stress.

”As a nurse, I can support families and put a smile on the faces of elderly people.”
