Why study Nursing at GMIT?Do you currently have a Diploma or Bachelor’sdegree in nursing and would like to upgrade yourqualification to an Internationally recognisedHonours Bachelor degree?

This Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing is aone-year top-up programme delivered at GMIT’sMayo campus in Castlebar, located on thebeautiful West coast of Ireland.

There are many reasons to choose GMIT,including:

• GMIT Mayo campus has a long history ofdelivering courses in Nursing, Social Care, andmore recently, Early Childhood Education &Care.

• This programme has been designedspecifically for international students, toenhance their employability and adaptabilityby teaching skills relevant to nursing in Irelandand across healthcare settings internationally.

• You will learn in a professional environmentwith world-class facilities and experiencedacademics.

• Students will have opportunities to apply forpart-time work in the region, includingemployment opportunities in local nursinghomes.

• Students who have initiated the NMBIregistration process (prior to arrival in Ireland)and who are in receipt of an ‘adaptation andassessment’ decision, can be supported inaccessing adaptation placements with one ofGMIT’s partner Hospitals. Securing aplacement does not guarantee your eligibilityfor registration with NMBI (places arelimited).

Semester 1 (Jan-May)

• Contemporary issues in the art and science of nursing

• Nursing in Ireland viewed through a sociological lens

• Nursing law and ethics

• Transcultural workplace

• Research 1

Summer Break (Jun-Aug)Opportunity to:

• Apply for full time work with local employers, includinghealthcare providers

• Access adaptation programme (for eligible candidates)

Semester 2 (Sept-Dec)

• Integrated care in the community

• Mental health practice for international nurses

• Development of management and leadership skills

• Clinical practice and patient safety (International Nursing)

• Approaches to chronic illness management and prevention

• Research 2

Entry Requirements

• All applicants must be registered nurses andprovide evidence of a current registration(at the time of application) with anappropriate Nursing/Midwifery RegistrationBoard in their home country.

• Applicants must have completed aDiploma/Bachelor in Nursing, or equivalent,from an internationally recognisedinstitution. We cannot accept Diplomasawarded on completion of enrolled/licensednurse programmes.

• Applicants must also satisfy the EnglishLanguage Requirements of the Institute;IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 in each component.

The fee is currently €9,950 (January 2018), and alimited number of Scholarships are available tothe value of €2,450 (25%) of non-EU fees. Theseare targeted at high academic achievers andcandidates who apply early. Applicants whowish to be considered for a scholarship mustapply before the 31st of August, 2017.

All completed application forms must be returned to the InternationalEngagement Office by 6th of November, 2017, together with:

• Diploma transcripts for each year of study

• Evidence of current nursing registration

• Evidence that the English Language Requirements have beenfulfilled

Please note that incomplete applications will not be processed.

Applicants should also advise GMIT whether they are applyingdirectly or if they are liaising with one of GMIT’s registered EducationAgents.

VisasApplicants are advised to contact the local visa office in their countryto establish what the average visa processing time is. This can varysignificantly from country to country; for example, visas for India areprocessed in New Delhi, whereas visas for Nigeria are processed inDublin and therefore usually take longer.
