- SJC took early morning flight to Philadelphia, but was delayeddue to air traffic. Arrived at the Devon office at 1145hra.,loaded up the suburban and drove to the site.- Arrived at the Dutch Village Inn at 1330 hrs.; called J.Archibald and he informed ne that no work was being done today dueto rain. Work will resume tomorrow and Malcolm Pirnie will sampleat the west landfill.WEDNESDAY MAY 30.1990 AM: SUNNY, COOL

PM: SUNNY, WARMER

- Malcolm Pirnie working at the west landfill using both tripod rigand an ATV. NUS split samples with Malcolm Pirn.'.* today from soilboring 01 (SB-01). The sample number was sooi-HLl-04. In additionto this sanple a trip blank, duplicate, and rinaate blank wastaken. See chain of custody 3-5801 for details. The above sampleswere immediately put on ice and will be shipped tomorrow. MalcolmPirnie decontaminated the split spoon samplers at the end of theday. They will continue drilling tomorrow.- SJC wrote up labels, tags, chain of custody, etc. at the motelfrom 1900 hrs. to 2100 hrs.

- Malcolm Pirnie continued work at the west landfill by drillingsoil borings and installing piezometers. NUS split samples fromsoil borings SB-02 and SB-04. Sample numbers were S002-WL1-04 andS004-WL1-06. See chain of custody 3-5801. Federal Express airbillwas 4180419736. Samples were sent to CRL to Janet Roberson.

- The above samples were selected by Malcolm Pirnie based onmaximum HNU readings taken immediately after opening the splitspoon sample. Head space readings were also taken to confirm theprevious readings.- The NUS samples were shipped at approximately at 1700 hrs. SJCreturned to the site at 1730 and MP was finishing SB-09.

FRIDAY JUNE 1.1990 AM: SUNNY, WARMPM: SUNNY, HOT

- The soil borings drilled at the west landfill for chemicalanalysis were completed yesterday. A total of 5 borings weredrilled; NUS split samples from 3 of the 5 borings.- John Archibald of Malcolm Pirnie continued work on the innerborings at the west landfill. As of today the following is asummary of what has been done at the site:WEST LAMDPILfr

o 6 test pits have been completed, 4 of which havetemporary piezometers installed.

o 4 inner soil borings have been completed, all of whichhave piezometers installed.

o 3 of 6 perimeter borings/piezometers are complete.o 5 soil borings (additional borings) mentioned above are

also complete.

- R. Richmond drove me to the FIT offict to get thesuburban.

- Left th* Dtvon office at 1100 Mrs. and drove to theTybouts Site. Arrived at the Dutch Village Inn atapproximately 1230 Hrs. Checked in and then took lunch.

- Went out to the site, but could not gat in at all thegates were locked. Went after tome supplies.

- SJC back at site at 1S30 Hrs. and the gat* was stilllocked. Talked with Hack ____ of Empire Soils. He saidthat the drill rig had arrived but would not start untiltomorrow. SJC left site a 1630 Hrs.

TUESDAY MAY IS.1990 AMl CLOUDY, COOLPMl SUNNY, WARM

- SJC at site at OSOO Hrs.; gate was locked. Tried to callJohn Archibald, but no answer. On site at 0930 Hrs.Drilling has started on the subsurface drains and not at thewest landfill. Apparently it is too wet at the westlandfill. The rig and tools were steam cleaned yesterdayaccording to J. Archibald.

- SJC went to get some keys made for the gates) also calledJ. Dziubek and gave him our progress. I asked him to giveG. Zimmerman a call and tell him that since no work isbeing done at the west landfill, there may not be anysamples sent this week.

- SJC calibrated the micro tip (PID) at 1230 Hrs. At 1300Hrs. the drillers broke for lunch. __

- Empire continued to drill at B-6. Test pit work is also beingdone on the site. Ed Aldrich is working with the test pit crew.

- SJC left site at 1630 Hrs.

- Mark continued at tht subsurface drains) toil boring B-6 wascompltttd and tht second of eleven test pits was excavated. Aprotective casing was installed ovtr B-6 and was locked.

- Work will proceed at the west landfill when tht arta dries outor until the drilling contractor can get an ATV on site. •

- Tht only samples taken from tht subsurface drain* art forgtottchnical analysis and no sampIt •plitting it rtquirtd by NUS.

- SJC also calltd D. Smith of Duffitld Assoc. to find out abouttht work at tht Texaco Drtdga Spoilt. D. Smith stated that accessha* not yet bttn obtained and that no work ha* ctarttd a* yet. Shtis to notify mt a* soon as sht know* anything.

- After steam cleaning tht rig and fining a hydraulic leak, thtrig movtd to tht next location B-7.

- Drilling of soil baring B-7 continued with split ipoon sample*bting taktn continuously for geottchnical parameters only. Testpit operations also continued and the fifth of tltvtn pits havt.now been excavated, The backhot was steam cleaned bttwttn tachpit dug.

- Baring B-7 was not compltttd today dut to tht driller not havingtnough augers. Thrtt flight* had to bt dtlivtrtd from thtiroffice. Also at the end of the day Scott stated that he was havingtrouble pulling auger* and would finish Monday.

- I also found out that the driller was not coming out tomorrowand no drilling was to be performed. Test pit operation* willcontinue, however.

- I told J. Archibald that I would not be out tomorrow or nextwttk, but to kttp mt informed. I asked Jiim to let me know if htplans on going to tht west landfill and'whtn he plans on takingsamples for chemical analysis.

Loaded up the pickup truck at the warehouse, picked uppreservatives at the lab and drove out to the Devonoffice.Arrived at the Devon office at 1750 HRS. Talked with B,Steclk and J. Treponoskl. Will switch trucks tomorrow and Iwill drive down to the Tybouu site.

- SJC called Malcola Plrnle and talked with T. Hayland. Hesaid that they are still havlnt probleas with the Insurancecertificate and that they will not start work this week.

- I left a lessago for G. Zluenan that no saiples would betaken this week,

o Exploration (Test Pits) of the Ward Clay Borrow Source is finished• (EPA was not notified). Tasting is in progress.

o Exploration of the Texaco Dredged Spoil Borrow Source will start onApril 23, 1990.

o A progress report on the Borrow Sources will be sent to EPA in August.
