• Main source of energy• Two main types • simple (sugars)• complex (starches)• Should make up 60% of diet• Foods:• Breads, rice, pasta, vegetables and fruits etc...
Fats
• Important for diet• Two types• Saturated fats• Trans fat • Should make up 30% - 35% of diet• Foods that have it:• Peanuts, meat, butter, milk, and cheese

Protein
• Builds up, maintains, and replaces tissues in your body
• Two types -Egg protein -Whey protein • 40-70 grams per day• Foods that have it: beef, fish, eggs, dairy
products, nuts, and legumes etc…
Fibre
• Helps body to flush toxins• Types:-soluble -insoluble• Average Canadian takes 14 grams day • Foods that have it: vegetables, fruits, beans
and almonds etc…
Vitamins
• Body needs them to work properly• Types:-Vitamin D helps bones.-Vitamin A in carrots helps you see at night.-Vitamin C helps your body heal -Vitamins makes protein and energy• Food that have it:• - oranges, carrots, milk, leafy green vegetables

Minerals (dietary)
• Body needs it for body processes and developments• Examples: calcium, iron, sodium, zinc etc… • Helps body grow, develop, and stay healthy• Strengthen immune system and increase

Water
• Keep your metabolism working properly• Body is made up of mostly of water- 85% brain, 80% blood and 70% muscles is
water • Drink 8-9 cups a day• Need water to survive• Helps regulate body temperature
