Chapter 10

Why nutrition matters?

The food you eat affects your health and quality of life.

Unwanted Conditions:

Cardiovascular Disease

Stroke

Cancer

Osteoporosis

Nutrition (Vocab)

The process by which your body takes in and uses food.

Nutrients (Vocab)

Substances in food that your body needs to grow, repair itself, and to supply you with energy.

Examples: Fats, Carbohydrates, Protein, Vitamins and Minerals.

Calorie (Vocab)

A unit of heat used to measure the energy that your body uses and the energy it receives from food.

People EAT for two reasons:

Hunger and Appetite

What influences your food choices?

Emotions

Stress, boredom, frustrated, etc.

Enviornment

Family/Culture

Friends

Time/Money

Advertising
