Greetings in the name o ou r blessed Lord. Yesterday and today havo proven to be two of the busiest days s ince our arrival In RhodesiaThe worst medical cases have come today since ou r arr ival a t Chldamoyo. With th enearest medical help some 40 miles away i t is hard to turn anyone away. Not only do

-w aose^ the i r-conf idence in^ns to help tbem*_iJLtfe_do.^u^r_n them away^ but many _minor things develop into things much worse. People wait much too long many timesand then come for help when i t i s too la te . Just 15 minutes ago one of the l as t pat i e n t s came in h is f a t h e r s arms. I t was not hard to discover the sickness , as theInfection covered the right cheek draining from the eye. Upon closer investigat ion Ifound in the eye socket a black mass with a large oblong hole in the center. Thenanother patient stepped forward with a minor cold. The last patient came with hisdaddy helping him. On his le f t leg was an ulcer about three inches long and twoinches wide, right down to the bone. The l i t t l e boy, about 8 years old, now si ts only five feet from my desk looking into my eyes as I write to you. These things ar ewhat we would perhaps cal l gruesome, and they effect me the way they would effectmost of you, my Christian brethren. The people expect help because we are theirmissionaries, so along with our teaching the precious Seed of eternal l i fe , we try tohelp them in their needs. p to 61 patients a day have come and we have f i rs t taughtthem a Bible lesson an d then did the l i t t l e we could. There i s no place within 40miles for them to gowhat would you have us to do?

Yesterday about 75 men plus about 100 women and chi ldren gathered by thenew Christian Day School to discuss i t s function in the area, the school tuition perchild, and to introduce the Christian teachers to them The 75 men were a ll village

headmen and represented hundreds of people. They expressed their thanks to God fo rsending them their missionaries and gave thanks to their Chief Dandawa fo r choosinjrthe right ones. One lady cried out, My God has heard my praying . These th ingsboost our morale, and make us a l l th e more thankful fo r you, out friends in Christ, who are willing to send and support. The Christian pay School is not quite finishedand is no t paid fo r by about two thousand dollars, but about 150 students will gati-:.:each day to be taught by Christian teachers. These 3 teachers, two of which havecome from Mashoko Mission, will have Bible Study with a ll the students each day plustwo hours on Sunday. (Excluding Saturday) .

The power of the Gospel is amazing as i t penetrates the hea rts of the African people in th is area. To date, five hundred ninety-six have been baptized intothe name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spi r i t . The samO problem exis ts here as inyour local church. With so many new converts, how can we maintain an effectivefollow-up and teaching program to strengthen them in the Lord? The African peopledr i f t around Rhodesia and present almost an impossible task to keep track of them. They are an emotional people and accept Christ perhaps more readily than in America. Many accept whatever comes along and know not why they believe what they do. Thismakes our t a sk on e o f which i s no t unconimon, but on e t h a t presen t s a da i ly chal lenge

to be met. Many of t he c on ve rt s, some of whc we may never again see , are scat teredBomeidiere i n Rhodesia and we covet your prayers fo r them t h a t the Seed sown i n t h ei rl iv es w ill produce much f ru i t . The majority of t he c on ve rt s are l iv ing in one placea l l th e t ime and we do t each them as we v i s i t Pra i s e God t h a t ne w groups a r e spr ing*ing up. From time to time, we receive word from some of th e converts who have moved, that they have been te l l ing th e l i t t l e they know and now have several who want toaccept Christ. We ismediately follow their pleadings. For the problems and for thevictor ies we covet your prayers of supplication and thaidcagivlng.

Our love for pur l i t i t le h Hae and mission grows dearer to us each day, andwhat a blessing i t is tp journey to Chidamoyo after a couple days in the city. Thebeauty of God s creation around the mission provides a daily inspiration and knowledge that setves to give us dally cOdrage and fai th.

We continue to s t r ive in Our work to bring glory and honor to God, and wepray that through our labors this will be accomplished. We ate thankful to you, whoare making our labors in Rhodesia possible, fo r the wonderful way in which you arecaring for us that we might preach Christ maong these people. Pray for us, and we llbe praying and working to the end that your efforts for the Rhodesian field will befruitful and lasting unto eternal l ife. We pray that your efforts both abroad and athome will abound in the Lord s work. May God grant you each sufficient grace andpeace fo r each day.

Greetings from Rhodesia in th e Name of Chris t . Againwe find need to share with you our experiences and endeavors for Christ in this landto which you have sent us, in an effor t to bring the Afr ican people to Christ . Oneof our greatest advancements has been the coming of Mr. S.. Machangura, an evangeli s t trained at Mashol^, to work it i th e Sinoia-Urungwe areas'.^ He wl1l i rorfc^lir thesame capacity as I.do; that i s , to train the loc al C hr is tia ns in the churches to ac-,cept the responsibil i t ies of leaders. Mr. Machangura will receive 57.00 monthly, which we hope some group in America will take as a project. In the Sinoia-Urungweareas he will be responsible to you, as I am, and not to the African churches. Thisway he will be able to assume full leadership and will be able to work as a missionary , training the local Christians to assume full leadership. There are severalreasons fo r th is : (1) I believe this to be th e New Testament example and that , in anew field, i t can be accomplished; (2) i t would be impossible fo r each of almost 30groups to hire an evangel is t under the present wage difference between the trainedevangelist and the people living in reserves who take their substances from the soil this is not true in a ll areas, and perhaps some day evangelists can be.supported locally); (3) 1 feel that Christians in the African society can be trained and willr ise to sufficiently meet the needs of the local church and, thereby, cause the:Church to grow; (4) finally, I feel, that the Church will expand rapidly with eachChristian spreading the Word of God Instead of depending mostly on the trained evangelists. The few t rained evangelists can, like the Apostle Paul, Timothy, and othersthen move into th e new areas af ter having spent several months or even years in onearea. Some of the churches, especially in the c i t ies , ar e almost ready to hire andsupport an evangelist, and we are encouraging them to do so, but, i f we start subsidizing a l l th e churches (even with three or four in one c i rcu i t ) , i t will become agreat burden, and the people, as we have found from past history, will expect helpfo r y e a r s to come.

These decis ions are f l ex ib l e and wil l be made in such manner as to meec th e Afr ican circumstances in t he e s ta b li sh m e nt of a work t ha t one day wil l funct ion without;the necessity of missionary guidance. We d like to have your questions and comments concerning this program. In this short l e t te r i t would be Impossible to explain a l l the reasoning and conditions that have brought forth this type of development to my thinking. We s t i l l lack many answers to this.complex society in which wework, and we covet your prayera for wisdom and guidance to be given unto us that ina l l we do, God w i l l be p r a i s e d .

Recently, I gave my first injections. Diana, fdio lives on the mission and isa bo ut t we lv e years old, was b i t t en by a venomous snake a t night . Before 30 minutesha d passed since th e b i t e she had received the in jec t ions an d was on her way backhome. How happy we were to be of help to beri

Due to the tremendousdistances of hauling and the cost of supplies in Rhodesia we are indebt, but our Christian Day School is almost complete and i t wil l thentake the next year and a half that we are here to pay i t off as wellas th e t ruck and other bui lding, God i s so good to us and how greatHe has giv en unto us s tr en gt h f or each day. May He grant unto yougrace and peace su ff i c i en t for each day. The harvest is great andthe church of Christ now reaches almost 1000 people in the Sinoia^ndT|r ungwe areas . Over 600 of these past two years . Pray for a con-

    ' tinued harvest , and for leaders to r ise up among the converts who willb c a p a b l e o f s h ep er d in g t h e f l o c k .

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour,Je sus Chr i s t , Several weeks ha ve now p as se d s in cewe last took tme to wite about our^labo^

here in Rhodesia Th^^ys^ass so q^ckly as we continue to give witnessto our blessed Lord and the new experiences raoiant up providing addedchallenge each day. Since we last vn:*ote wewere privileged to be witha ll the other missionaries in the Rhodesias and to share vrith one anotherour work and experiences. The fellowship i s always a boost to us as wevery seldom see anyone we know of our own people V/e thril l with thework going on in e.l1 parts of Rhodesia and also tlirill with the plansof esqsansion for the future as discussed at the meetings, '/e are certainlyblessed to be a part of the Rhodesian work, and thank God that you liavebeen willing through prayers or support to make i t possibl^that wea r e h er e

Many of you perhaps already* know that the Bruce Ammerraanfamily wilfbe joining us next month. Lord willing. f have received word from themthat they will be arriving in Salisbury on the 22nd of July This isonly 5 weeks av;ay and how anxious vre are for them to be a part of theThere are so many things which we have not been able to do that nowwill be realities with the capable work and witness of Bruce and his wifeKarolyn, They have two young cliildren. Gay and Amy. We look forwardespecially to the church vrork and the developement of the church leaders. We have been t ied down with th e developement of the mission station andtreating of patients and applying for new schools that i t has been hardto give the necessary time to the many groups who need instruction inchurch government. New areas have opened, and we have tried to enterthem before they were lost to the false doctrines of men.^ It has seemedlike a long time and like we have spread ourselves so thinnly over avast area that i t becomes discouraging. True we have preached tothousands of people and many have been obedient to our blessed Lord, butunless they are^ nurtured they scanetimes drift away. This very day Italked with iLga, iixe old evangelist about answering the call fromVuti some s.lOQmiles north of us Christians of the Church of Christliave moved there in to the new farming aroa jus t opened up by the government, and found no Church of Clirist. They immediately sent word forhelp. Tomorrow morning Miga will leave for that area to spend severaldays investigating the possibility of establishing a church there Inthe first part of August, Bro Aramermanand X, i f God permitsreturn with Miga and visit the people. Pray for thi s developementthat i t iiiight be frui t ful for the Kingdom of God

Greetings in the name of our blessed Lord. From SouthCent ra l Afr ica we g r e e t yo u an d want to share with yo u th e

work in which you have encouraged us through prayers and offerings. The Lord i s goodto us i n al lowing us to witness in Rhodesia an d we cont inue to covet your prayerst h a t our witness wlLl be as e f f e c t i v e as poss ib le , and t h a t people ye t in a pr imi t ivesoc ie ty wi l l see Chris t 1 us, an d r ea l i ze Him to be the Hope of glory.

The warning rains have now Tie and we rush in the three weeks before the big rains come thundering down. In this area of th e Urungwe th e average ra infal lper year i s about 40 inches and i t wil l fa l l in the next 4 months. During th is threeweeks Brother Bruce and I wil l have organized our evangelis t ic program for th e nextfew months with several printed lessons for th e many church groups to study andpreach. All the painting on th e Christ ian Day School and our l i t t l e home will be

finished today, and we hope to have the Ammerman s house also finished. We

startedtheir 5 room and bath home on August 1 of this year and are now putting in th e cei ling and floors. Next week i t will be ready for painting. There ar e s t i l l severalthings to do l ike plumbing, hanging doors, etc. but within a few weeks they will bel i v i n g i n i t

We have applied for 10 Christian Day Schools for 1965 including 2 in th e Vutiarea. The Vuti area i s jus t a new region to th e north of Karoi being opened up intosections to be purchased by the African farmers. Some were from th e Churches ofChrist and so appealed to us being only 80 miles away to help them with schools andchurches. They a re w il li ng to pay for th e school expense as quickly as possible, bu thave th e costs of moving and start ing new farms a t th e present and are unable to imrmediately help. We debated even applying, and we s t i l l don t know i f we want th e ap-plications to be approved due to time and expense, bu t others with d oc tri ne s of menwere ready to move in and take over. Thousands of people would have been forced tobecome members of these groups before th e children could attend th e s cho ol . TheChurch o f C hrist does not force the people to become members j*fft so t he i r childrencould go to school. This practice presents problems for some of the Church of Chriripeople as they are forced to meet on Sunday with the other group and i t makes i t herdon them and t h e i r c h i l d r e n T h i s i s one r e a s o n we a l s o w a n t t o have C h r i s t i a n Dr^ySchools. We a lso teach 30 minutes each da y to th e chi ldren an d give a good foundat ion to them as they grow and become l eaders of the church.

The Ammermans and us v^re privileged to journey to Mashoko Mission some 500miles to the South and v i s i t with severa l missionar ies and t ra in ed e va ng el is ts o fMashoko Bible Training School. Mashoko sponsored a Ministers Retreat where we discussed the many problems which face a rapidly growing work. Reports are s t i l l fullof new opportunities which present themselves. The African people are tired of themany doctrines of men and are wanting to come back to the doctrines of the New Testament. The Church of Christ stands ready with this answer, and only prays that Godwill provide the support and strength, so as to aid this movement. This is true in
