In this deck, Sumit Gupta from Nvidia describes the company's big win with IBM for two supercomputers for deployment in 2017. The two machines will feature IBM POWER processors coupled with Nvidia's future Volta GPU technology. IBM today announced that the U.S. Department of Energy has awarded IBM contracts valued at over $300 million to develop and deliver the world’s most advanced “data centric” supercomputing systems at Lawrence Livermore and Oak Ridge National Laboratories to advance innovation and discovery in science, engineering and national security. IBM’s new systems using a “data centric” approach puts computing power everywhere data resides, minimizing data in motion and energy consumption. Summary

The U.S. is building the two flagship supercomputers, 3x faster  than  today’s  fastest  system. Higher performance supercomputers are necessary to enable new waves of scientific innovation and discovery, such as delivering safe fusion energy, combating climate change, finding new alternative energy, and enabling better, safer consumer products. IBM & NVIDIA are inventing new technologies that will enable exascale computing
