THE DRAGON: Congrats to Astros RHP Chris Devenski, who was added to the American League All-Star Team today. Devenski is 6-3 with a 2.09 ERA and 3 saves in 34 games for Houston this year, striking out 72 against 13 walks in 51.2 frames. He has held the opposition to 4 home runs and a .149 batting average. The 26-year-old has pitched shutout ball in 16 of his last 18 assignments. This season, Devenski leads all Major League relievers in strikeouts and innings pitched while rank-ing tied for first in wins. The 2015 Hooks Pitcher of the Year has posted 1.9 wins above replacement per Baseball Reference, which ranks third among AL relievers behind LHP Andrew Miller (2.3) and RHP Craig Kimbrel (2.2). Devenski joins a group of 6 Corpus Christi alums to be named to the 2017 AL All-Star Team. The contingent includes 2B Jose Altuve, SS Carlos Correa, LHP Dallas Keuchel, RHP Lance McCullers Jr. and OF George Springer. This is the first time in club history that the Astros have six All-Stars in a single campaign. TRIPLE-A BOUND: The Astros have promoted RHP Jacob Dorris and RHP Andrew Thome to Triple-A Fresno. Dorris owned a 1-2 record, 3.99 ERA and 3 saves in 23 games for the Hooks this year. The former Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander struck out 47 and walked 15 in 38.1 frames. Dorris was not charged with an earned run in 10 of his last 14 appearances for the Hooks. He stranded 11 of 15 inherited runners on the season. Thome went 4-4 with a 3.09 ERA in 23 games for Corpus Christi, while going 6-for-10 in save chances. He stuck out 26 and walked 8 in 32.0 frames, while coaxing 4.67 groundouts per fly ball. This marks the first Triple-A promotion for Thome and Dor-ris, both non-drafted free agent pickups in June 2015. INCOMING: Houston added a pair of players to Corpus Christi’s roster today. RHP Ralph Garza rejoins the club from High-A Buies Creek. Garza, a New Braunfels native, was 2-2 with a 3.44 ERA and 3 saves in 20 Carolina League games. The former Oklahoma Sooner struck out 43 and walked 16 in 36.2 innings, allowing 2 home runs and a .257 opponent batting average. Garza made 1 appearance with the Hooks this year, throwing 2.0 shutout innings vs. Midland Apr 27 at Whataburger Field. He last worked July 4 at Myrtle Beach, blanking the Pelicans over 2.0 frames. OF Bryan De La Cruz earned a Double-A promotion after hitting .277 in 13 games between Quad Cities and Tri-City. De La Cruz, a 20-year-old from Santo Domingo, DR, began the year in extended spring training. The Astros have added RHP Nick Hernandez to Corpus Christi’s bullpen yesterday. Hernandez, a Carolina League All-Star, posted a 1.59 ERA in 24 games for Buies Creek, going 9-for-9 in save chances. The former Houston Cougar ranks 2nd in the CL in saves, and owns the lowest opponent batting average in the loop among relievers at .157. Hernandez has struck out 48 against 11 walks in 34 innings, allowing 1 home run. He took the loss yesterday at Myrtle Beach, permitting 2 runs on 2 hits, 1 hit batter and 2 intentional walks. The setback snapped a stretch 22 scoreless innings over a span of 17 appearances. Houston selected Hernandez in the 8th round last year’s draft. After signing, he went 1-2 with a 2.77 ERA and 6 saves in 19 games between Quad Cities and Tri City. C Ihan Bernal joined the Hooks Wednesday. Bernal has logged 4 games in the Gulf Coast League this year, going 1-for-5 with a double and an RBI. The 20-year-old, who hails from Panama City, was acquired by Houston as a non-drafted free agent in March 2014. TOP DOG: 3B J.D. Davis has been tabbed by MiLB.com as the Texas League Player of the Month for June. During the month, Davis batted .343 with 8 doubles, 7 home runs, 23 RBIs and a 1.031 OPS in 25 games. Davis’ June featured a 14-game hit streak and a 2-home run, 5-RBI performance on the 8th vs. Frisco. The two-time Texas League South All-Star leads the circuit with 19 home runs while slotting 2nd in slugging percentage (.528), total bases (161) and extra-base hits (35). Davis has belted a club-record 42 home runs in 201 career games with Corpus Christi. He was named Texas League Player of the Week 4 times last year, and was selected as the circuit’s player of the month for May. ACT NATURAL: Tonight’s rubber match is the regular-season finale between Corpus Christi and Northwest Arkansas. The Hooks, 5-6 vs. the Naturals this year, have not lost a season series against the Springdale 9 since 2011. The clubs split the 12 games in 2016. MAKE ‘EM EARN IT: Corpus Christi committed 4 errors last night which was the difference in the club’s 9-4 setback to North-west Arkansas. The Hooks have now dropped 6 of the last 8 games. In those losses, Corpus Christi has committed 10 errors, rendering 14 unearned runs. The Hooks dropped those contests by a combined 15 runs.
