David Irvine Session – AuTHENTIC LEADERSHIP:It’s About PRESENCE, Not PositionWith David Irvine, The Leader’s Navigator

Great leadership cannot be reduced to technique or title. Great leadership comes from the identity and integrity of the leader. ~ David Irvine

Great cultures – organizations that exhibit qualities such as employee engagement, trust, sustained commitment, collaboration, and pride – require great leadership. Regardless of your title, leadership is about creating an environment that inspires people – both inside your organization as well as in the communities you serve – to become engaged and work toward a shared vision.

You are invited to take this opportunity to step back, gain new perspective on your leadership responsibility, and strengthen your competence in the practice of leadership. As one of Canada’s most respected voices on leadership and organizational culture, David Irvine offers a new view of who you are as a leader and what you can become. Leave with practical insights and strategies for building a culture that attracts, retains, and unleashes greatness.

• Learn the difference between a boss and a leader, and the true source of leadership power — your authentic, accountable presence.

• Discover the vital leadership accountabilities that will inspire others, renew your culture, and engage people in what matters most.

• Learn the key leadership strategies that foster trust, open communication, and sustained commitment – with all of your stakeholders.

David Irvine is sought after internationally as a speaker, author, and mentor. His work has contributed to the building of accountable, vital and engaged organizations across North America.

David is the best-selling author of five books, with over a quarter million copies sold worldwide.

David has advanced degrees in human development, science and social work. With more than 25 years of experience as a workshop facilitator, family therapist, professional speaker and consultant, David has developed a unique, personal and practical approach to transforming leaders.

On a personal note, David is a formerly nationally ranked distance runner and was a Canadian who trained with the uS Olympic team. He is a father of three, and husband of one. David lives with his wife and family in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains near Cochrane, Alberta.

Mike Kujawski Session – HARNESSING THE GLOBAL POWER OF THE MODERN DIGITAL LANDSCAPE

Mike will be discussing the strategic importance of the modern digital space as it applies to social marketers interested in behaviour change. Participants will be provided with a high-level, engaging overview of what the main macro trends are in this space (as opposed to fads) and why understanding and adapting to them is crucial. Mike’s presentation will help you realize that social media engagement needs to be incorporated into the fabric and philosophy of your entire organization at a strategic level, beyond merely tools and tactics. Some of the points Mike will be covering include:

• Latest definitions of social web terms, beyond the buzzwords

• Latest statistics and actual trends taking place in Canada and around the world

• Impact of video education, mobile and touch devices

• New revenue models (e.g. micro-donations, social coupons, long-tail services)

• Impact of gamification on behaviour change

• Digital footprint management (organizational and individual)

• Overview of how to take a strategic approach to social media engagement

Mike Kujawski is a passionate consultant, trainer and speaker on the topic of strategic marketing and digital engagement. His specific niche is helping government and non-profit organizations excel in the modern digital landscape through capacity building and strategic planning. He created Canada’s first national workshop and comprehensive workbook on how to develop a social media engagement strategy in a public sector setting and has trained public servants spanning across 4 continents.

Mike has been asked to speak at hundreds of public sector and non-profit conferences, panels and events around the globe and has provided strategic digital engagement advice to central government agencies in Canada such as the Treasury Board Secretariat, the Privy Council Office and the Senate.

Mike is also part of the faculty of the Professional Certificate in Public Sector Marketing Program at Carleton university and occasionally lectures at the university of Ottawa.

Tim Moorhouse & Ian LegareeSession – NATIONAL TRENDS: RECREATION AGENDA

The National Recreation Statement is the basis for Federal-Provincial/Territorial intergovernmental relations in the area of recreation and has not been reviewed for over 25 years. In 2011 the first steps were taken to review and modernize this important policy framework. Through the leadership of the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association, the Interprovincial Sport and Recreation Council, the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association and the Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation Ministry, a National Recreation Summit was held in Lake Louise, Alberta.

For three days, 200 respected leaders began identifying the steps needed at the national, provincial/territorial and municipal levels to deliver on recreation’s great potential to address some of the crucial issues of our day.

The Summit findings, recommendations and a plan were presented to the Federal – Provincial / Territorial Ministers responsible for Recreation at their conference in Inuvik, Northwest Territories in june 2012. The Ministers approved the plan including the hosting of a National Recreation Roundtable in Fredericton, New Brunswick in May of 2013 focused on priorities for action related to a National Recreation Agenda.

This session will include a review of the findings from 2011 and a discussion on the important issues and consideration Northwest Territories recreation professionals would like considered at the 2013 National Recreation Roundtable.

Ian LegareeIan Legaree is the Director of Sport, Recreation and Youth for the Government of the Northwest Territories. He has worked in the NWT and Nunavut for nearly 30 years in recreation, sport, community and leadership development and municipal affairs. During his tenure he has also played important roles in a wide range of national and international projects including the Arctic Winter Games, the Interprovincial Sport and Recreation Council, the vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games – Northwest Territories Program and the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association.

Ian and his wife Shawna Lampi-Legaree, artist and business owner, have three adult sons. When they are not involved in community projects they can be found traveling the north and the world investigating various historical, cultural and social treasures.
