Welcome, and Happy belated New Year to all of our members and your families. I hope 2015 brings you health, happiness, and success in all of your endeavors. I know it has been a while since you last heard from me. We have been very busy here at Columbia, working behind the scenes for our members. So dig out from under the snow, make sure your dues are paid, and get ready for a fun-filled year. Our Cigar Night that was scheduled for March 20th has been postponed to a later, yet to be deter- mined date. As some of you may know, Columbia was the first organization to have a cigar event back in 2000. Since then, many organizations have followed suit. We are in the process of taking our cigar night to the next level and our Fifteenth Annual Cigar Event will be one for the ages. Please be sure to monitor our website for updates because two things are certain; tickets will sell-out fast and you don’t want to be left out. Another event that Columbia was first to have is our Texas Hold’em Tournament. This year’s event will be on Saturday, April 18th at 6:30pm. $100 buy-in also gets you food and drink. This event will be held at the Italian Charities Building on Queens Boulevard. Flyers and information are available on our website. Our Annual Dinner-Dance will be held on Friday, May 8th at El Caribe Country Club. This year’s Giuseppe Petrosino Man-of-the-Year Award goes to Inspector Joseph Gallucci of the Counter-Terrorism Bureau. Inspector Gallucci has always been a tremendous supporter of our organization. Comedian and YouTube sensation Vic Dibitetto will be the recipient of our Italian-American achievement award. Vic is a proud Italian-American and native of Staten Island. As always, we will honor three deserving members of the service with our Mario Biaggi, Michael Melchione, and Arthur Pelo awards for valor. Flyers will be distribut- ed and information will be posted on our website in the near future. Last fall Community Board #7 in Flushing unanimously approved the co-naming of a section of 28th Avenue, from College Point Boulevard to Ulmer Street in front of the new police academy in College Point, “Police Officer Phillip Cardillo Way.” Councilman Paul Vallone introduced the bill authorizing the renaming to the City Council Parks and Recreation Committee last November, and it is expected to be passed by the Council this spring. I would like to thank member Timmy Motto for all of his hard work and dedication to this endeavor. Finally, if you have yet to pay your 2015 membership dues we have many ways for you to do so. Ac- tive members are able to have their dues deducted annually from the first paycheck of every year by signing up through ESS. If you are not sure who the delegate is in your command, you may contact any of your cor- responding borough trustees directly. You may also pay your dues at the door of any of our general meet- ings. I hope to see you at the next meeting on March 24th. Richard Angeletti President.

Our President’s

Message….

Welcome, and Happy belated New Year to all of our members and your families. I hope 2015 brings

you health, happiness, and success in all of your endeavors. I know it has been a while since you last heard

from me. We have been very busy here at Columbia, working behind the scenes for our members. So dig

out from under the snow, make sure your dues are paid, and get ready for a fun-filled year.

Our Cigar Night that was scheduled for March 20th has been postponed to a later, yet to be deter-

mined date. As some of you may know, Columbia was the first organization to have a cigar event back in

2000. Since then, many organizations have followed suit. We are in the process of taking our cigar night to

the next level and our Fifteenth Annual Cigar Event will be one for the ages. Please be sure to monitor our

website for updates because two things are certain; tickets will sell-out fast and you don’t want to be left

out.

Another event that Columbia was first to have is our Texas Hold’em Tournament. This year’s event

will be on Saturday, April 18th at 6:30pm. $100 buy-in also gets you food and drink. This event will be held

at the Italian Charities Building on Queens Boulevard. Flyers and information are available on our website.

Our Annual Dinner-Dance will be held on Friday, May 8th at El Caribe Country Club. This year’s

Giuseppe Petrosino Man-of-the-Year Award goes to Inspector Joseph Gallucci of the Counter-Terrorism

Bureau. Inspector Gallucci has always been a tremendous supporter of our organization. Comedian and

YouTube sensation Vic Dibitetto will be the recipient of our Italian-American achievement award. Vic is a

proud Italian-American and native of Staten Island. As always, we will honor three deserving members of the

service with our Mario Biaggi, Michael Melchione, and Arthur Pelo awards for valor. Flyers will be distribut-

ed and information will be posted on our website in the near future.

Last fall Community Board #7 in Flushing unanimously approved the co-naming of a section of 28th

Avenue, from College Point Boulevard to Ulmer Street in front of the new police academy in College Point,

“Police Officer Phillip Cardillo Way.” Councilman Paul Vallone introduced the bill authorizing the renaming

to the City Council Parks and Recreation Committee last November, and it is expected to be passed by the

Council this spring. I would like to thank member Timmy Motto for all of his hard work and dedication to

this endeavor.

Finally, if you have yet to pay your 2015 membership dues we have many ways for you to do so. Ac-

tive members are able to have their dues deducted annually from the first paycheck of every year by signing

up through ESS. If you are not sure who the delegate is in your command, you may contact any of your cor-

responding borough trustees directly. You may also pay your dues at the door of any of our general meet-

ings. I hope to see you at the next meeting on March 24th.

Hello Columbia,

Happy New Year to all. With

2015 here I would like to wel-

come aboard our new board

members. Most of our member-

ship will recognize them either by

name or face. They were mem-

bers involved in the association,

at meeting and events. Now

these members are working for

the membership. They bring dili-

gence and hard work to compli-

ment the other board members.

Membership is this association’s

backbone. Reach out to your del-

egate or trustee and get your

2015 membership card.
