Functions of National Youth Training Centre

Purpose: 1. Develop young people’s potential through:- Capacity building- Empowerment- Character development- Specific skills training

2. Provide “second chance” training to youths

o Target client: youths of 15-35 years of age

- This includes piggery, poultry, crops and bee keeping, coral restoration, Children’s forest programme, waste management, environment.

Agricultural Training Prescriptionii. Target number of trainees: 15iii. Achievement so far: Batch I (15 trainees) completed SOS training & successfully completed 5 months basic agriculture training Batch II completed SOS & are now in their 1st month of agriculture training

Monitoring/Follow up of Ex-trainees . One of the last year’s ex-

trainee in Koronisagana, Navosa that we followed up in the 1st quarter of this year and seems to be doing well. Shown in the pictures are his dalo, Cassava & vegetable farms

Up-grading of NYTC infrastructure The government allocated

a total of $105,000.00 for the upgrading of facilities.

The projects earmarked this year includes:

1 x 3 b/r concrete house (staff quarters)

1 x 3 b/r wooden house (staff quarters)

1 x chicken slaughter house

Up-grading of the piggery Construction of a new 20m

x 7m poultry shed.

Memorandum of understanding between Government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports and OISCA International

Memorandum of understanding between Ministry of Primary Industries (Agriculture Department, AH & P Division) and Ministry of Youth and Sports

Govt./MYS and OISCA International Initiated in 1990 and reviewed in 2012.

Focus areas:- Agriculture Training – cost sharing- Leadership training- Time management- Character development- Environmental awareness training - Children forest programme - Coral restoration - Mangrove planting -Waste management (3 R’s Concept) – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

o Agriculture training programme in Japan – 120 trainees successfully graduated.

NYTC and Department of Agriculture [AH & P Division] Initiated in 2012 after the

initial MOU was ceased with Taiwan Technical Mission

Focus areas: Training and Empowerment of youths - Supply of day old chicks

Results of partnership Adequate supply

Agriculture trainees gain more exposure through practicals and field visit to Sigatoka Research Station.
