Meeting of Energy professional Skills (MEnS)Learning outcomes

On Completion of Professional Energy Skills in NZEB module, the learner will be able to:

• Advise on the EU policy and legislative framework appropriate to an nZEB retrofit of an existing residential building.

• Appraise building fabric and building services installations, and consider the performance impact of retrofit materials and installations interventions in an existing residential building.

• Apply calculation theories and methodologies used in energy modelling to achieve compliance with the nZEB performance standard in a residential retrofit project.

• Assess and advise on the incorporation of renewable energy requirements to achieve nZEBperformance in an existing residential building.

• Apply an industry standard or statutory European energy assessment metric at a professional level to a residential retrofit project.

• Propose and model a range of energy retrofit interventions aimed at meeting the nZEBstandard in a residential retrofit project.

• Apply the principles of life cycle cost analysis in assessing the relative merits of fabric interventions and services installations in an nZEB residential retrofit project.

Online delivery based on clear pedagogical model

• Formative / Feedback / Summative;

• Saturday-Friday cycle: ‘synchronistic’ delivery;

• 20 learning hour unit per week: 3 x lecture + 1 x webinar + 16 self directed;

• Formative Exercise: Issued Saturday, Open book, Explores unit content, Pre-recorded lectures, All resources online, Consultation with colleagues using web-based tools, 4 days to explore, Submit Tuesday, MCQ format using Google Form;

• Feedback webinar: Wednesday 20.00-21.00, 40 students, Blackboard Collaborate platform, Structured feedback on MCQ Formative Exercise, Audio engagement by lectuer(s), Text-based dialog by 40 students, Recorded;

• Summative Assessment: Friday 20.00-21.00, MCQ format using Google Form, 80% pass mark and 2 repeats for MCQ format, 60% aggregated overall pass for module.
