O Adjectivo - Comparativo e Superlativo

- Os adjectivos de uma só sílaba formam o comparativo de superioridade acrescentando  –er + than  e o superlativo acrecentando  -est.

           Exemplo: He is taller than his brother, but he is not the tallest in his class.

- Os adjectivos com 3 ou mais sílabas formam o comparativo de superioridade com:  more+ ajectivo+ than, e o superlativo com:  the most + adjectivo.

           Exemplo: She’s more intelligent than her brother, but she’s not the most intelligentperson in her family.

-  A maioria dos adjectivos com duas sílabas formam o comparativo de superioridade com:  more+ adjectivo+thane o sperlativo com the most+adjectivo - Os adjectivos de duas sílabas que terminam em   y (pretty, happy, ...), -le (noble,gentle, ...), -ow(yellow,  narrow, ... ) e –er(clever, tender, ...) formam o comparative -er + adjectivo+ than e o superlativo

          Exemplo: She’s prettier than me, but her sister is the prettiest and the cleverest girl I know.

- Com alguns adjectivos de duas sílabas (quiet; clever; narrow; simple; common, ...)pode-se usar as duas formas.  

          Exemplo: It's noisy here. Can we go somewhere quieter /more quiet?

the last (o   final) / the latest (o mais recente)

the oldest   / the eldest ( referente a membros de   família )

 

Crescimento gradual

-    Comparativo + and + comparative (cada vez mais) -    the + comparative ... the + comparative (quanto mais tanto mais)

       Exemplo: . Life is getting more and more difficult (a vida está cada vez  mais difícil)

                           The more you study, the more you learn (quanto maisestudas, mais aprendes)

- Comparativo de igualdade: as + adjective+ as

       Exemplo: He is as intelligent as his sister

- Comparativo de  inferioridade: less+ adjective+ than, or not so + adjective+ as

      Exemplo:  He is less hard-working than his sister, or He is not so hardworking as hissister
