A Cup of Joe
P a s t o r a l N o t e s
Greetings in Christ, all! It was just a few years ago last Thursday that my Mom went to be with the Lord. Of course I am biased, but I think she was extraordi-nary. I worked for a while on a couple different ideas to share her with you, but in the end, it hit me that perhaps the best idea is to give you some parts of the homily I shared for her funeral.
I ask her to pray for us at St. Mark and Holy Family every day and I want you to know about the woman I believe is praying for us. So, without further ado, here are some portions of the homily I gave at my Mom's funeral.
She saw the Lord in it all…not just the beautiful baby gig-gling, but in the horrors and crucifixions of being a broken person in a broken world. I can’t tell you what that meant and means to me to be loved and raised by a woman who saw the Lord in everything.
*** Mom loved Jesus. With every cell in her body, she loved God. Because of that, she loved us all with an intensity that is impossible to describe.
Her sincere conviction that God loved her put a steel in her heart that was absolutely, positively unbreakable. Be-cause God loved her so deeply and because she loved Him back, she could weather any storm of gossip, hateful comments, neglect, trials or tribulations. In the words of Proverbs 31, she laughed at the days to come.
*** We, as a family were with her at the end and no kidding, Mom didn’t just die, Mom was finished. Right after she took her last breath as we were looking at her tired, worn out body, my sister Laure pointed out it was perfect: Mom had used up every cell in her body. For 77 years Mom grabbed every moment that God offered her in life and she seized it: she laughed like no one else, she cried with intensity and a depth that would break your heart. She sang with gusto, she prayed with fire, she worked like a crazy woman and hugged you as if the world was ending. She traveled the world and gazed on wonder after won-der, meeting people and transforming them on every pop-ulated continent…I can’t tell you what it was like to live with and around such a person.
It’s hard not to give her resume. It’s hard not to tell you the extraordinary things she accomplished: Every joy, every pain, every experience God threw at Mom…but that’s not her. Her love for God and her trust in God’s love for her is what is important and the best thing about her.
In the last days, I would hold her hand and whisper to her over and over saying “I am filled with gratitude for you.” I was and I am. She Shined.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES? Have you ever felt the power of God?
Are you FEARLESS enough to find out?
"Fearless sheds light on what the Christian life can look like for the Catholic who is freed from fear and allows the
Holy Spirit to be more active in his or her life. Fearless chronicles what God can do in and through men and wom-en who allow the Spirit of God to lead them. Anyone who
is interested in releasing the power of God in their life should make a point of watching Fearless.”

Collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, US (AMS) Next weekend our parish will take up the Collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, US (AMS). Estab-lished by Saint John Paul II in 1985, the AMS is the only U.S. Diocese responsible for providing pastoral care to men and women serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, en-rolled at a U.S. Military Academy, being treated as a pa-tient at any of the 153 U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, or working for the federal government beyond U.S borders - including those from our own parish and diocese. Including families, AMS priests and deacons serve approximately 1.8 million Catholics who hail from 50 states and U.S. Territories. While the salaries and retire-ment of Catholic military chaplains are paid for by the U.S. Government, the AMS does not receive any funding from the government or military for program and administrative costs. To learn more about the AMS, go to www.milarch.org/nationalcollection. Please give generous-ly. An envelope may be found in your packet or you may give online.

The cost for the materials is $40 payable by check made out to Holy Family Catholic Church.
There will be a voluntary parent meeting on Monday, November 11, at 6:00 p.m. in the school library. Pushpay Since April we have been in the process of transitioning our online-giving platform to Pushpay. This has replaced Our Sunday Visitor. It is our goal to get ALL recurring giv-ing switched over in the next couple of weeks, so we need to get your scheduled gifts transitioned to the new plat-form. There are still some parishioners who need to make the switch or who have made the switch, but have not
canceled their giving on Our Sunday Visitor. If you need assistance, please call the parish office.
Thank You A big THANK YOU to everyone (approximately 75 people) who braved the cold on Sunday, October 13th, at 4:00 pm to pray the Rosary in front of the Rectory on Saginaw Street! As the church bells loudly rang out, we joined to-gether with the rest of the country in praying the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary simultaneously with approximately 1200 Rosary Rallies! This was the 102nd anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima and the 2nd annual Holy Family Rosary Coast to Coast!
Also a "Special" Thank you to Deacon Larry, his wife Lin-da, and many others who led the five decades of The Ro-sary that afternoon!
Hope to see everyone again next year in 2020!
Please continue praying the rosary each and every day as Our Blessed Mother wraps her Mantel around us, which is strengthening us under the outpouring of grace flowing through Her for guidance, support and resilience.

Married Couples Weekend Mission: Critical / December 6th - 8th
St. Francis Retreat Center / Diocese of Lansing
Why “Mission: Critical?”
Marriage continues to come under attack. Some would say the state of marriage is in critical condition. Healthy mar-riages provide much-needed stability to our families and communities. It is critical as husband and wife to under-stand our role in marriage and have a plan - A MISSION - for our lives together.
If the mission is critical, it needs time and attention to thrive. Join us for a celebration of marriage as we unpack Ephesians 5 and learn how our marriages are designed to be a shared mission. Through this shared mission, we be-come the image of Christ essential to our families and community.
The weekend includes a Renewal of Vows ceremony, vigil Mass, inspiring talks, ample time to unwind and reconnect with each other, cocktail reception, outstanding food, and a few added touches to make your weekend a true renewal of spirit!
Join us for fun, to relax, and to be inspired! It’s our Mission - and it’s Critical that we focus on it together! A great Christmas gift idea - Register now as space is limited!
For more information and resources for married couples, visit http://www.stfrancis.ws/married-couples-weekend.html
