’S GREETING
The Flag officers and trustees extend to all m e m b e r s and guests
a most cordial welcome to our 1964 season.
Your committee chairmen have planned m a n y varied activities
for your enjoyment this summer.
Youth activites will be under the direction of Dick and Betty Shoe
m a k e r who will continue the excellent work contributed by Chick Hunger-
ford. These will include instructions in sailing, life-saving, swimming
and tennis.
There will be Saturday night entertainment, dancing, fishing tourna
ments, bridge, rendezvous, and the ladies are planning a Fashion Show
and Fair.
This is your club, let us all join in its support and m a k e this the
finest year Avalon has ever had.
Sincerely,
c

WOMEN’S AUXILIARYMembership in the Women's Auxiliary is open to the wives of all Yacht Club
members. Meetings are held the last Tuesday of June, July, and August. All members will be notified as to the time and date. Please come out and help support your club.
The Auxiliary sponsors the Junior Junior and the Junior Intermediate groups whose activities are listed elsewhere in the book. Each year a "Best Citizen" award is given to a boy and girl in the Junior Intermediate group. This is determined by secret ballot from the boys and girls themselves.
Our 196k season began with our annual luncheon, card party and fashion show (by Esther Pomerantz) at the Barclay Hotel in Philadelphia. This was a fabulous affair handled beautifully by our co-charimen and their committee. Further plans for this summer include our annual July fashion show, a Fair in August, and possibly a Book Review.
Listed below are the names of the committee chairmen. If there is anything you are interested in, please come to our meetings and volunteer your services. If not, come anyway and meet the "gals".
Have a nice summer.Millie Nagle President

Tired of hanging
around the Dock ?
Go get a Pacemaker and get going. If you are fed-up
with waiting for good weather and calm water, don’t wait
any longer. Get the boat that enables you to go in comfort and safety in almost any water, any weather. If your
schedule doesn’t permit you to wait for mill pond days, then you ought to be running a Pacemaker.

everything in the boat is constructed carefully, ruggedly, because we know that Pacemaker owners don’t wait,
won’t wait because they’re not accustomed to waiting.

YOUTH PROGRAMAs your new youth directors we wish to take this opportunity to introduce
ourselves and say how very happy we are to be at the Avalon Yacht Club this summer. Betty and I are teachers of Health and Physical Education and I coach football, wrestling, and tennis. Our interests are and have always been with youth and recreation.
The youth program will be much the same as Nancy and Chick ran in the past with a few new innovations that we feel will please you. Sailing and swimming classes will be offered as in the past and if there is enough interest we will put tennis instruction into the program also. Of course the Juniors have planned another full schedule of social activities for your enjoyment throughout the summer.
Again let me say how happy we are to be with you and hope we'll meet you all early in the season.
Betty and Dick Shoemaker
SAILING CLASSSailing holds a special place here at the Avalon Yacht Club. The heart of
the sailing at the Club revolves around the sailing class. This is where the fundamentals, terminology, and techniques are learned.
The over all success of this program is seen by the continuing success of Avalon sailors year in and year out.
The success of sailing has also been in part due to the work of our sailing instructors who.have done an excellent job. I believe we have employed such instructors in John Leonard and Eddie Kaier for the 1964 season.
The Sailing Committee expresses best wishes to the youth of the Avalon YachtClub for a very successful and enjoyable summer.
Charles W. Hungerford Sailing Chairman
YOUTH PROGRAMThe Youth Program this summer is under the capable direction of Dick Shoemaker.
A full summer of sailing, swimming, and other sports activities has been planned.
John Leonard and Ed Kaier are our sailing instructors. In this program fundamentals of sailing are taught. In the sailing class races every Wednesday the students will have an opportunity to use what they have learned.
Swimming and Life Saving are being taught by Jane Sponaugle and myself. Included in this program are lessons in beginning swimming, advanced beginning swimming, intermediate swimming, and Junior and Senior Life Saving.
All members' children are invited to take part in the youth program.Have a happy summer.
Sharon BranningSenior Swimming Instructor
JUNIORSWelcome Juniors.'
The Juniors are always the peak of the Youth Program at A Y C, and this year will be no exception. We will have many new members from the Junior Intermediates, and we are sure that they will add to, and enjoy, the carefully selected program for this summer. Although many of us are old friends, new faces easily become familiar and welcom faces.
While the Moonlight Cruise has always been the hit of the season for yachtsmen and landlubbers alike, we have planned not only many events which have, in years past, proven to be fun, but also several new ones, including an outing with the Sea Isle City Juniors. As well as our Tuesday night activities, there will be several dances, with such bands as the Stardusters, The Keynotes, and the Four Bums.
So join the friendliest group in South Jersey, but don't just join--partici- pate. Your Tuesday nights will become more fun than your week-ends. / -~ ts
