Theme: The Three Faces of Love
At the risk of being labeled (and libeled) irrelevant, let us draw on a key insight of Aris-
totle: the wise person knows that for which a thing is made. This allows him to use a
thing for its proper function. Without proper knowledge of the end, all kinds of distor-
tion and violence take place. For example, the proper goal of the end of the medical art
is healing and wholeness. The competent doctor is one who can help the patient return to
a state of health. To lose sight of such a goal is to distort one’s art (medicine) and endan-
ger the patient’s well-being.
In a like manner, it is crucial for us to know the proper end of our human existence.
What is the proper goal (end) of our lives? For what (whom) are we made? The goal for
the end of our lives is happiness. We are made for happiness. But (and this is a big but)
we are made for happiness rightly understood. That is, happiness is the blessedness and
well-being which alone can make us happy in a lasting way. We are made for God. God
is the fulfillment of our deepest longing and most hopeful desires.
All of our searching and seeking is the quest for God. At times, we may not know it; we
may lose our way; we may even reject the end for which we are made; but searching and
pursuing us is the God of love. He is the One for whom we are made and who alone fills
up the empty space in our hearts. All else is rubbish except to know God and his love.

Si estamos hechos para Dios y su amor ilimitado, entonces
¿debemos esperar hasta que lo veamos tal como es al final de los
tiempos? No. Dios se encuentra en el aquí y ahora de nuestras
vidas cotidianas. Las Escrituras hebreas dejan pocas dudas sobre
lo que se requiere para aquellos que aman a Dios y su pacto: no
opriman a un extranjero; tratar justamente a los débiles y sin
poder; aprende a ser generoso con los necesitados. El viaje hacia
el Dios del amor comienza ahora, cuando mostramos obras de
amor mutuo (especialmente de los necesitados).
Seamos claros acerca de la motivación de lo que hacemos. De-
bemos amarnos unos a otros porque Dios es amor y estamos
hechos para su amor eterno. Al amar a nuestro prójimo, mostra-
mos amor verdadero por Dios a cuya imagen estamos hechos
maravillosamente. Nuevamente, el libro de Éxodo: "Si alguna
vez los equivocas y me gritan, seguramente escucharé su cla-
mor ... Escucharé por compasión". Hay más en nuestro amor al
prójimo y a la persona necesitada que en lo humanitario senti-
mientos. En el centro de nuestra relación de pacto con Dios está
la necesidad de amarnos unos a otros. Simplemente no podemos
decir que amamos a Dios sin tener en cuenta las necesidades de
quienes nos rodean. El amor nunca es "Ti y yo". El amor siem-
pre es "Ti, yo y todos nosotros".
Jesús no se verá desviado de las preguntas ociosas de aquellos
que buscan confundirlo. Toda la ley y los profetas descansan en
el amor. Amar verdaderamente a Dios con todo su ser es acer-
carse al más pequeño de nuestros hermanos y hermanas. Porque
al ministrar al menor, encontramos a Jesús en su necesidad.
Finalmente, San Pablo está lleno de palabras de alabanza por la
fe mostrada, en circunstancias muy difíciles, por los tesalonicen-
ses. De hecho, se han convertido en una comunidad modelo.
Como estos cristianos imitaron a Pablo, así también deberían
otros imitar su fe y amor. Que se diga lo mismo de nosotros en
OLGC. Con toda humildad podemos vivir digno de imitación.
Que otros vean en nuestras vidas el amor, el Dios del amor en el
trabajo. Que nuestra fe, informada por el amor, se active por la
justicia y las obras de misericordia. En todo lo que hacemos, que
Dios sea alabado, Amén. Y recuerda el tipo de vida que vives
porque puedes ser la única biblia que leerán las personas.

If we are made for God and his unbounded love, then
must we wait until we see Him as He is at the end of
time? No. God is to be found in the here and now of our
everyday lives. The Hebrew Scriptures leave little doubt
as to what is required for those who love God and his
covenant: not oppress an alien; treat justly the weak and
powerless; learn to be generous with those in need. The
journey towards the God of love begins now, as we show
deeds of love for one another (especially the needy).
Let us be clear about the motivation of what we do. We
are to love one another because God is love and we are
made for his eternal love. In loving our neighbor, we
show true love for God in whose image we are wonder-
fully made. Again, the book of Exodus: “If ever you
wrong them and they cry out to me, I will surely hear
their cry … I will hear for I am compassionate.” There is
more in our loving the neighbor and the needy person
than humanitarian feelings. At the very center of our
covenant relationship with God is the need to love one
another. We simply cannot claim to love God while ig-
noring the needs of those around us. Love is never “thee
and me.” Love is always “Thee, me and all of us.”
Jesus will not be sidetracked by idle questions of those
who seek to trip him up. The whole of the law and the
prophets rest on love. To truly love God with one’s whole
being is to reach out to the least of our sisters and broth-
ers. For in ministering to the least, we encounter Jesus in
his need.
Finally, St. Paul is filled with words of praise for the faith
shown, under very trying circumstances, by the Thessalo-
nians. In fact, they have become a model community. As
these Christians imitated Paul, so should others imitate
their faith and love. May the same be said of us at OLGC.
In all humility may we live worthy of imitation. May
others see in our lives of love, the God of love at work.
May our faith, informed by love, be active for justice and
the works of mercy. In all that we do, may God be praised
Amen. And remember the type of life you live because
you may be the only bible people will be reading.

RITO DE INICIACIÓN CRISTIANA
EL RITO DE ACEPTACIÓN El proximo Domingo 5 de Noviembre, nuestros Candi-datos y Catecúmenos de nuestra comunidad toman un nuevo paso en su jornada de fe hacia la celebración de los Sacramentos de Iniciación (Bautismo, Confirmación, Eucaristía) en la Vigilia Pascual o el Domingo de Pente-costés.
Dios los ha llamado a una relación más profunda con Él y la Iglesia. Ellos han estado reuniéndose con nuestros catequistas por varias semanas en sesiones con sus preguntas a cerca de nuestra fe y vida Cristiana. Ahora toman un paso más para entrar en el Catecumenado – tiempo para una preparación más profunda. Se reunirán cada semana para clases y así aprender más a cerca de nuestra fe.

Next Sunday November 5, our Candidates and Catechumen of our community take another step in their journey of faith toward the celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil or Pentecost Sunday. God has called them to a deeper relationship with Him and the Church. They have been gathering with our parish catechists for several weeks in Inquiry Sessions. They have been asking questions about our faith and the Christian life. They now take a step to enter the Catechumenate - a time of further prepa-ration. They gather each week for classes to learn more about our faith. We ask you to keep them in your prayers.

DISCOVERING CHRIST
Discovering Christ is coming. It is a seven-week experience
where all are invited to hear the Good News and personally en-
counter Jesus Christ. Please register to become a participant. We
meet on Tuesday evenings in the auditorium for 7 weeks. Enjoy
a meal and meet some wonderful people. This session will begin
November 7. If you are interested , we will have sign up sheets
in the back of the church and the parish office. You may also
sign up on the OLGC website – olgcsi.org.
MONTHLY ENVELOPE You may have noticed a new envelope in your envelope packet
entitled “Monthly Collection.” On the first Sunday of each
month, there will be a second collection for “Monthly Collec-

BRACIÓN DE NUESTRA SEÑORA DE
GUADALUPE Nuestra Cofradía Guadalupana inició el rezo
del rosario en los hogares en preparación para la celebra-
ción de la Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.
El grupo trae la imagen de la Virgen, reza el rosario y ora
con la familia y sus invitados. La imagen se queda en el
hogar de la familia esa noche y después continúa su pere-
grinaje con la próxima familia.
Si usted desea invitar el grupo a su hogar, favor de lla-
mar a Rufino Pavía al 347-979-5242. También puede
hablar con uno de los miembros de la cofradía, después
de la Misa de las 7 PM del Sábado o de las 12:30 PM del
Domingo.
