Interested in becoming a new member? Please contact Mona Barnes at 614-306-8013, the Parish Office at 614-488-2428 or just drop by Victory Hall after 8:30 a.m. Mass on the third Sunday.

FROM THE PASTOR • Monday, February 17, marks the First Anniversary of the passing of Monsignor Romano Ciotola, the sixth Pastor of

Our Lady of Victory Church, into Heaven. While his presence is missed, we rejoice that he is in Heaven with God and the Heavenly Host and keeping an eye and ear open for us who are at OLV.

• Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 26, with Masses at 8:00 a.m., 12:00 Noon and 7:00 p.m. A detailed flyer will be in next week’s bulletin.

• Mark your calendars – there will be a Parish Lenten Mission March 9, 10 and 11, “Virtue, Vice and Grace,” presented by Dominican priest, Father Thomas Blau. Conferences will be each day at 10:00 a.m. in the Parish Life Center; conferences will be repeated each evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Church.

At this past week’s Parish Council Meeting, many topics were discussed including some interesting “Rumors” (not based in fact/truth) in regard to the future of the parish and my pastorate. We celebrate this Monday, Presidents’ Day honoring two of our greatest Presidents who were born in February: Abraham Lincoln (February 12) and George Washington (February 22). Both men were president at challenging times – our nation’s birth and the Civil War. Washington helped a fledgling democracy “get off the ground” and Lincoln had to lead/heal a divided country plagued with racism/slavery. A priest friend of mine (now deceased) was a big fan of and admired Abraham Lincoln. He read many books about Lincoln. In Lincoln’s years as a young man (before becoming a lawyer and entering politics) he managed several shops/businesses. While Lincoln’s wit and skills kept most of the customers content, some still complained. Lincoln posted the following quote of his outside his office door. My priest friend had a copy of it in his office:

“If I were to try to read, much less answer all the attacks made on me, this shop might as well be closed for any other business. I Do the Very Best I Know How the Very Best I Can and I mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out all right, what is said against me won’t amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, ten angels swearing I was right, would make no difference.”

~ Abraham Lincoln

PARISH REGISTRATIONPlease contact the Parish Office to register or to change your address or status.

Parish registration consists of two parts:

Registration: Registering in a parish is a declaration of your desire to be a part of a Catholic community and a commitment to the life of the parish family. We are often asked to provide affidavits for parishioners’ standings. We can only do this if a person is a registered, active and contributing member in our parish.

Participation: As a member of your Parish, you are accepting the responsibility of weekly worship as well as supporting God’s work here through giving of yourself, your time and talents, and a worthy Sunday offering to show your love of God and your gratitude for His many favors and blessings.
