Oakfield Infant and Junior Schools Federation Year 5 Home Learning Planning: Summer 2 Week 5 Hi Year 5, We hope that you are well and are continuing to keep busy. It is sad that we won’t be together for our final 2 weeks of the term, but we know that you are all continuing to work so hard at home. Thank you for the continued emails and photographs; it is great to see what you have been up to and which activities from the home learning tasks you have enjoyed. Here are your week 6 home learning activities; remember you don’t need to complete all of them! Don’t forget to email your photographs to [email protected] – we would love to see what you get up to this week! This week we have included a ‘memories activity’ for you to sum up your time in Year 5; we would love to see your responses! Stay safe and keep smiling! You may like to search for an animated version of the poem to help you further understand the content. Read ‘The Jabberwocky’ by Lewis Carroll and discuss/think about what is happening.

Search Jabberwocky – Lewis Carroll – Animated Choose the first video (1:57)

Complete some or all of the activities below (see Jabberwocky Resources file on the school website):

1. After reading the poem, complete the comprehension activity.

2. Focus on verse 1 what do the words mean? Are they nouns, adjectives, verbs or adverbs?

Complete the activity (Understanding Verse 1). 3. Find out about portmanteau words by following

the PowerPoint. Complete the portmanteau activity. Can you create any of your own

portmanteau words?4. Draw a picture of what you think the

Jabberwocky might look like? Be creative! Use the ideas from the poem to help you. Add

powerful descriptions to describe the creature.

English Ongoing TasksSummer 2 Statutory Spellings:

pronunciation, queue, recognise, recommend, relevant, restaurant, rhyme, rhythm, sacrifice

Continue to practice your statutory spellings following the different methods shown in school (mnemonics, rainbow

writing, pyramid writing). Use the words in a sentence. Can you use more than one word in the same sentence?

Read a book of your choice for 3 20 minute sessions this week.

other way you wish! It might be a memory about a school visit, our Christmas production, a favourite

lesson, assembly (possibly during Diversity Week), or something that happened in class. We look forward to hearing all about your memories. Please send them to
