CARE & USE TRAINING

Standards for electrical safety in the workplace includingNFPA 70E and CSA Z462 require care and maintenance ofarc-ra ed c o n and arc-ra ed arc as s s. Oberonhas created this User’s Guide to assist with training oncare and use of its products.

INSTRUCTIONS ON STORAGE

• Use a storage bag or storage locker in a clean dryenvironment. Never store with sharp objects, or industy areas.

• To avoid color fading and loss of strength never storender d rec s n or o er so rces ra-

window inside of the storage bag; otherwise hood• storage bags are available.

storage including the fan unit and LED lamp.• To ensure the hood ventilation system fan does not

turn on while using a storage bag, disconnect the fanunit from the coupling (turn fan counter clockwise),open battery storage compartment cover and removeone battery. Replace the battery compartment coverand store in a pouch inside of the overall storage bag.

LAUNDRY INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE: Always follow the instructions on the care labelfound inside of your Oberon PPE.

GENERAL CLEANING REQUIREMENTS• Wash Arc Flash PPE regularly.• Repairs to the garment must be made with the same

thread and fabric.• Always completely disassemble your hood before

laundering (see instructions below). Do not launderhood with window, hard hat, hood ventilation systemand LED lamp in place.

• Close all hook & loop fasteners before laundering toavoid unwanted pilling or clogging the hook portionof the fastener.

• Suits shall always be washed or cleaned separatelyfrom any other clothing.

WASHING PROCEDURESThe following instructions apply to domestic as wellas nd s r a was n . oad o was n mac ne 2 3of volume of the drum in order to avoid crumples. Pre-washing at temperatures up to 40°C with a washing bathrelation of 1:10. Main washing at temperatures up to40°C with a washing bath relation of 1:10.

DETERGENTSTo wash PPE in a correct way, the bath should have aph-value <10. General commercial detergents for coloredclothing can be used and proportioned according to thedetergent manufacturers` information. Full detergentscontain brighteners and are therefore not suitable. Donot use bleaching agents or products which containbleaching agents.

FABRIC SOFTENERDo not use fabric softener.

RINSINGAfter washing, PPE shall be rinsed carefully in order toremove a rema ns o a a ne and or poss b y ammab eresidues of the detergent. Up to 2-3 rinsing cycles may benecessary.

DRYINGGarments may be spin-dried and dried in a cylinderdrying machine with low or normal temperatures until aremaining humidity of 10-20%.

IRONINGDo not iron.

DRY (CHEMICAL) CLEANINGChemical drying is recommended when clothing becomesvery dirty by e.g. oil or grease. Dry cleaning shall be doneaccording to the care labeling by usual 2-bathprocedure.

Bib-Overalls: Ensure fabric inside/out is not ripped, torn, no holes, other damage or contamination. Check suspenders, inspect for signs of excessive wear and con rm no v s b e s ns o dama e. Con rm buckles are operable and s spender s rap s a inside of the adjustment mechanism. Inspect cinch strap(s) for hook and loop seal.

Ventilation System: Perform system check by turning fan on. Replace batteries if needed. Check fan connection to coupling, ensure fully engaged into locked position. Fan unit fully secured inside pocket, loop or strap (located at back).

Hard Cap: Check shield adapters, ensure no cracks and correc y ed ns de cap side slots. Inspect for cracks, shell not out of date and suspension adjusting mechanism works.

Coat: Ensure fabric inside/out is no ripped, torn, no holes, other damage or contamination. Check zipper and/or hook and oop c os re con rm no visible signs of damage.

Hood: Inspect hood window inside/out for excessive scratching, cracks or other damage; replace if necessary. Ensure rubber washers are seated on fastening pins. Ensure fabric inside/out is not ripped, torn, no holes or other damage or contamination.

HOW TO PUT ON (DONNING)NOTE: Oberon products shall be used in accordancewith all labeling and applicable Standards. The following

ow o ear ns r c on s on y an e amp e. or erinstruction is the sole responsibility of their Supervisor &Employer.

HOOD PREPARATION• Open storage bag, remove hood, and perform visual

inspection.• If the hood is equipped with a hood ventilation

system, perform a battery check by turning the fanswitch to “ON”. If the fan does not operate, changethe batteries and repeat this step. Switch fan to “OFF”be ore proceed n o e ne s ep.

• Remove the can of Disinfectant spray and soft clothfrom inside of the storage bag.

• Holding the can 18” away from the hood surface,lightly spray the inside of the hood with the can ofDisinfectant being careful to never spray the outsideo any par o e arc as s or over spray n cre-ating pooling on the inside of the hood and hard hat.

• Avoid spraying the inside of the hood window.• Using a clean, lint free soft cloth, clean the outside

of the hood window to ensure best possible visibilityremove any d r n er pr n s e c. . s n e same

cloth, wipe out the inside of the hood window (lens).• Place the hood down on a clean surface with the hood

opening facing up, allowing the inside of the hood tocompletely dry before use.

BIB-OVERALLS• Remove bib-overalls, perform visual inspection.• Op ona on arc as coo n ves over op o a y-

Wear and underneath the bib-overalls.• If bib-overall suspender buckles are open, close

buckles.• Don bib-overalls by using a bare wall or chair to take

the weight of your legs, once balanced, place one legthrough the pant legs at a time.

• While donning the bib-overalls point your toes to theoor a ow n yo r wor boo s o s de ro e

open n . yo r wor boo s are e cess ve y so edremove them before putting on the bib-overalls.

• Once both legs are through stand up and pull thesuspender straps over your shoulders and adjust theens on or a com or ab e remov n any e cess

slack in the suspenders.• If possible, close the side cinch straps with hook and

loop closures.• Close the lower cinch straps using the hook and loop

tabs at your ankles to ensure the suit legs do not fall down under your heals, avoiding a potential tripping hazard.

COAT• Remove the coat from the storage bag, perform visual

inspection.• Put on the coat over top of the bib-overalls.• Place the can of Disinfectant spray and soft cloth

back inside of the storage bag, stow bag in a safelocation.

• Completely zip up the front coat closure and seal thezipper using the hook and loop placard, including thestrap at the neck to ensure all open areas have beenfully sealed.

Other Personal Protective Equipment, worn before theHood:• Don approved Safety Glasses or Goggles.• Don appropriate Hearing Protective Device(s).• Don any other PPE that is appropriate for the hazard

(respiratory protection, over boots, etc.).

HOOD• Pick up the hood and inspect inside using your bare

hand touching the surfaces to ensure the Disinfectantspray has completely dried.

e bo om o e ens p e w ndow s e d c ose oyour mouth and reactivate the anti-fog coating on theinside of the hood by breathing over the entire insidesurface of hood window.

• Once the hood is on, reach your hand up inside theback of the hood and tighten the ratchet suspensionknob to the point at which the hard hat does not slipor eas y p o yo r ead

GLOVES• Complete visual inspection, air testing and pre-use

procedures.• Put on the gloves one hand at a time, ensuring the

c o e s coa or covera s we ns de o e n-ner mos oves e. R bber ns a n o a e Ra edor rc-ra ed oves y n a n a na ra pos on andnot rolled or bunched up.

FINAL CHECK• After the hood is on and the hard hat suspension is

• Double check all closures, sealing any gaps andnspec n or correc ness o . Reac yo r andaround to the back of the hood and switch the fanbac o O be ore proceed n o se yo r arc assuit.

HOW TO TAKE OFF (DOFFING)HOOD• Remove hood, turn fan switch to “OFF”.• Retrieve the suit storage bag; remove the can of Dis-

infectant spray and soft cloth.• Holding the can 18” away from the hood surface,

lightly spray the inside of the hood with the Disinfec-tant being careful to never spray the outside of anypar o e arc as s or over spray n crea npooling on the inside of the hood window.

• Always avoid spraying the inside of the hood window.• mmed a e y w pe acc den a spray o e ns de o

the hood window using soft cloth.• Place the can of Disinfectant spray and soft cloth

back inside of the storage bag.• Place the hood down on a clean surface with the hood

opening facing up, allowing the inside of the hood tocompletely dry before storing.

COAT• Remove your coat and fold lengthwise before placing

back inside of the storage bag.• Proceed to removing the bib-overalls by opening the

cinch straps on the sides and at the ankles, then pull-ing the suspender straps over your shoulders.

BIB-OVERALLS• Find a bare space on a wall or by sitting on a chair,

balance your weight and pull your legs through thebib-overalls. It is helpful to use your opposite hand tohold the bottom of the bib-overall pant legs allowingyour work boot to easily pull through. Remember topo n yo r oes down. yo r wor boo s are e -cessively soiled remove them before removing thebib-overalls.

• Once the bib-overalls are removed fold them length-wise and place them on top of the coat inside of thesuit storage bag.

• Fold the back of the hood including the fan unit insideof the hard hat and place the hood into the storagebag.

• Zip closed the storage bag and store in a safe drylocation.
