Obey God
Obeying God is different
than serving God
Judges 2:1 NLT The angel of the LORD went up from Gilgal to
Bokim and said to the Israelites, “I brought you out of Egypt into this land that I swore to give your ancestors, and I said I would never
break my covenant with you.
Obey God
Judges 2:2 NLT For your part, you were not to make any
covenants with the people living in this land; instead, you were to destroy their altars. But
you disobeyed my command. Why did you do this?
Obey God
Judges 2:3 NLT So now I declare that I will no longer drive out
the people living in your land. They will be thorns in your sides, and their gods will be a
constant temptation to you.”
Obey God
Judges 2:4-5 NLT 4 When the angel of the LORD finished
speaking to all the Israelites, the people wept loudly.
5 So they called the place Bokim (which means “weeping”), and they offered
sacrifices there to the Lord.
Obey God
Judges 2:6 NLT After Joshua sent the people away, each of the tribes left to take possession of the land
allotted to them.
Obey God
Judges 2:7-8 NLT 7 And the Israelites served the LORD
throughout the lifetime of Joshua and the leaders who outlived him— those who had
seen all the great things the LORD had done for Israel.
8 Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of 110.
God expects people to obey voice.
1 Samuel 15:22 NLT But Samuel replied, “What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices
or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice,
and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.
Obey God
1 Samuel 15:23 NLT Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and
stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the command of
the LORD, he has rejected you as king.”
Obey God
Jesus obeyed the Father as a Son not
as a slave or servant.
Mark 10:41 TPT Now the other ten disciples overheard this,
and they became angry and began to criticize Jacob and John.
Obey God
Mark 10:42 TPT Jesus gathered them all together and said to
them, “Those recognized as rulers of the people and those who are in top leadership
positions rule oppressively over their subjects, but this is not the example you are to follow.
Obey God
Mark 10:43-44 TPT 43 You are to lead by a different model. If you want to be the greatest one, then live as one
called to serve others. 44 The path to promotion and prominence comes by having the heart of a bond-slave
who serves everyone.
Obey God
Mark 10:45 TPT For even the Son of Man did not come expecting to be served by everyone,
but to serve everyone, and to give his life as the ransom price in exchange for the
salvation of many.”
Obey God
Jesus learned to obey the Father
through suffering.
Hebrews 5:7 NLT While Jesus was here on earth, he offered
prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from
death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God.
Obey God
Hebrews 5:8 Even though Jesus was God’s Son,
he learned obedience from the things he suffered.
Obey God
Hebrews 5:9-10 NLT 9 In this way, God qualified him as a perfect
High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him.
10 And God designated him to be a High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.
Obey God
Loving Jesus empowers us
to obey His voice.
John 14:15 TPT “Loving me empowers you
to obey my commands.
Obey God
John 14:16 TPT And I will ask the Father and he will give you
another Savior, the Holy Spirit of Truth, who will be to you a friend just like me—and he will
never leave you. The world won’t receive him because they can’t see him or know him. But you will know him intimately, because he will make his home in you and will live inside you.
