Rick Prewitt will be the coordinator of the Estill County Office. It will be open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10-6. The SPARK Office is lo- cated on the second floor of Christian Worship Center on Broadway. It can be accessed at the rear of the building. Prewitt said he will con- tinue the Ragamuffin group on Fridays at 6 p.m. There will be Narcotics Anony- mous (NA) classes on Mon- days and Thursdays. The advocate of the Irvine Office will be Misty Dehart. “God used Casey’s Law to save my life,” she stated. Prewitt stated that he had been clean for 30 years. The local SPARK is also supported by Circuit Judge Michael Dean, District Judge William “Bo” Leach, and County Attorney Rod- ney Davis. Judge Leach said until five or six years ago, most people he saw were addicted to alcohol. Today, it is meth- amphetamine. The judge said that leads to a slow death. “Whatever you (family members) do now is easier than going to a funeral for them,” he stated. “It’s truly an avenue of hope,” Davis stated. “We can’t put everybody with a drug addiction in jail.” “It is a step by step pro- cess,” he added. “It’s going to take some time.” Judge Dean said Brewer had helped someone in his family who was addicted. Davis said people are wor- ried about the cost of drug re- hab if they file Casey’s Law. “We can find somewhere for everyone,” he stated. “It may be faith based. It may be out of state. We’ll figure out the money.” A relative of a person ad- dicted to drugs files a peti- tion for Casey’s Law with the court. The advocate at SPARK Ministries will help the relative file the petition. The SPARK Ministries will arrange for the pay- ment of the drug treatment, and provide transportation if needed. Some medical insur- ances pay for drug rehab, as does Medicaid. Court filing fees can also be waived. The judge will then order the adult addict into drug treatment. An addict can also walk into the SPARK Ministry office. Prewitt said they will of- fer rehab treatment that same day. The treatment may be provided as as an inpatient or out patient. After a solid semifinals performance, the band was named as a top 4 finalist for the 5th consecutive year. This placement gave the band the opportunity to perform on Kroger Field at UK. The Marching Engineers turned in a breathtaking perfor- mance in finals, earning them 2nd place in class AA. This has been yet another history making year for this band program and as always, this group of students represented Estill County well on Kentucky Marching Band’s biggest stage!
