Women’s Liberation Movement

• Feminism, movement to end the discrimination of women, equal rights for women in the workplace/ burned their bras

National Organization for Women

• NOW, National group to organize and promote the goals of the women’s movement

Gloria Steinem

• Author and founder of Ms. Magazine and founder of the National Women’s Political Caucus

Phyllis Schafly

• Conservative opponent of the Equal Rights Amendment/ said that she found her self-worth in being a wife and a mother

The Feminine Mystique

• Book written by Betty Friedan/ women’s self worth is determined by the pursuit of her own goals, career, etc.

Equal Rights Amendment

• Proposed Amendment to the Constitution that was approved by congress but not the states, attempt to add to the Constitution the goal of equal rights between men and women
