Objective

Academia and industry share a symbiotic relationship. Academia produces graduates who are absorbed by industry. Research work in universities are taken up by the industry and turned into products and services. Industry on the other hand looks to academia for solutions to their concerns. It would like universities to tailor their courses to turn out graduates whose skill-set are aligned to industry requirements. Often new research topics arise out of interaction between the duos which benefit both academia and industry. Collaboration between academia and industry is increasingly a critical component of efficient national innovation systems. It is useful to examine the experience of developed countries to better understand the different types of university-industry collaboration, motivations to form these agreements and barriers to cooperation, as well as the role of public policy in fostering such linkages. The various challenges currently facing academia-industry collaborations are awareness, identification, evaluation, protection and commercialization of ideas. There are two key factors that are driving the trend toward industry institute interface. They are the development of technology that allows the university to deliver quality coursework to the worksite and increased competitiveness at companies. In the present conference, experts from diverse international/national universities and pharma industries will address issues related to industry-academia interaction.
