Do Now: What are 3 things that a plant cell has that an animal cell does not have?

Cell Membrane

- A barrier that regulates what enters and leaves the cell

Page 3: Objective: What are the structures and functions of cell organelles? Do Now: What are 3 things that a plant cell has that an animal cell does not have?

Cytoplasm

- Jelly-like substance made of cellulose which contains all of the organelles

Page 4: Objective: What are the structures and functions of cell organelles? Do Now: What are 3 things that a plant cell has that an animal cell does not have?

Nucleus/Nuclear Envelope- Nucleus: controls cell activities (contains DNA)- Nuclear Envelope: separates contents of

nucleus from rest of the cell

Page 5: Objective: What are the structures and functions of cell organelles? Do Now: What are 3 things that a plant cell has that an animal cell does not have?

Ribosomes• Where proteins are

assembled

Page 6: Objective: What are the structures and functions of cell organelles? Do Now: What are 3 things that a plant cell has that an animal cell does not have?

Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)

Rough ER (highway) :

- (rough b/c of ribosomes on surface)

- Proteins are made then transported to Golgi

Smooth ER: produces lipids, detoxifies posion

Page 7: Objective: What are the structures and functions of cell organelles? Do Now: What are 3 things that a plant cell has that an animal cell does not have?

Mitochondria

Produces Energy (powerhouse of the cell)

Golgi Body• Like a post office• Modifies and routes proteins outside of cell via

transport vesicles

Page 10: Objective: What are the structures and functions of cell organelles? Do Now: What are 3 things that a plant cell has that an animal cell does not have?

Cytoskeleton

• Made up proteins

• Supports cell

Page 11: Objective: What are the structures and functions of cell organelles? Do Now: What are 3 things that a plant cell has that an animal cell does not have?

Lysosomes

• Membrane-bound sacs that contain enzymes

• Digest food, destroy foreign invaders

Page 12: Objective: What are the structures and functions of cell organelles? Do Now: What are 3 things that a plant cell has that an animal cell does not have?

Centrioles (animal cells)

• Important in cell division

Vacuoles

• Large, membrane-bound sacs

• Stores nutrients, pigments, salts, etc

• Contractile vacuoles pump out excess water
