Romania is a carpathian and a danubian country with are opening to the Black Sea.It has a variable and harmonious relief: mountains 31 %, hills and plateaus 33 %, plains 36 % .

The climate is temperate -continental,characteristic to the Central Europe ( hot summer,cold winters, very distinct seasons, abundant snowfalls especially in the mountains).Warmest areas are in the south.

Tourism

Romania is the owner of all natural conditions to become one of the most important european touristic destination.The most wanted regions are: the Black Sea litoral , Prahova Valley, Moldavia Monastries, churchs in wood - Maramures, Danube Delta,Bran(Dracula Castle), medieval cities, the Carpathian Mountains.

One of the largest and city in Romania, the most important in the SW region. In 1996 the population was over 310.000 and since then it has furthermore developed.

A Little bit of History

In antiquity, on this spot was a dacian citadel called Pelendava.The city was fist mentioned on a map in 1396 with a latin name “Ponsiona”-which means “Bridge over the river”. It was an important medieval center and the residence city for a dinasty of noblemen.One of them was Michael the Brave, the first ruler of all romanians, around 1600. He became a legend in our history and can be considered “the patron” of the city.

The modern age brought important development especially in culture and art.Well known artists like Constantin Brancusi, the creator of the Endless Column, Marin Sorescu, a famous writer, and many more, started their work here, in our city.Craiova is also well known around the world for the National Theatre. Nowadays, it’s an important industrial, commercial and cultural center in Romania.

University of Craiova

It’s a modern institution, with 17 faculties and 2 colleges, good material support.There are over 25.000 students , many of them from abroad.The university has many international connections, with more than 30 universities all over the world and our students attended all sort of international events.

Polytechnic school

Since 1948, it grew with the need for well prepared engineers, now there are over 10000 students in:Faculty of Automatics, Computers and Electronics;Faculty of Electrotechnics;Faculty of Electromechanics;Faculty of Mechanical Engineering;Technical Colleges; There are some well known departaments: Robotics Departament , Computer Science, Aerospace Engeneering Departament, Departament of Engineering Taught in Modern Languages
