HEALTH RESOURCEPAMFLET

INTRODUCTORYHEADLINE

Our obstacle course consists of a beanbag toss, over under with water, hula hoops, a dance station, a potato sack station and a tunnel. Upon completion of each of the stations, the group of children are awarded with a puzzle piece and at the end of the course the children have to put a puzzle together. While brainstorming which activities to include in the obstacle in course we kept in mind how important physical education is for children. According to Children: A Chronological Approach “Being active physically has many benefits for children: it helps promote growth of muscles and bone, promotes cardiovascular health, and can help establish a lifelong pattern of exercise” (Kail&Zolner, pg. 323).

What We Provide

our group carefully constructed an activity that would be enjoyable for the children and hopefully help them develop lifelong attitudes towards physical education. Our activity emphasizes team player skills as the children will need to work as a team in order to gather the puzzle pieces for their end result. Our obstacle course helps improve the children’s flexibility, coordination skills, maintain a healthy weight, problem solving skills, and social skills. At the end of our obstacle course everyone will receive an award as we are trying to keep competition to a minimum.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Our obstacle course can also be easily adjusted to fit children with special needs, and can have flexibility so that children can start from their own skill set. If a child is in a wheel chair the activity will be slightly revised for them as we will provide mini hula hoops so they can twist them around their wrist, for the jumping jacks they will have to reach their arms up and clap for as many times as those who will be doing the jumping jacks, they will have a specially made potato sack that will have to be put on like a shirt, and two straight narrow lines will be drawn near the tube section to mimic the tube.
