PARSONS DANCE
Parsons Dance is an internationally renowned contemporary dance company under the artistic direction of dancer/choreographer David Parsons. Parsons Dance is committed to creating and performing American dance works of extraordinary artistry that are engaging and uplifting to audiences throughout the world. Parsons Dance tours nationally and internationally, including an annual season in its home community of New York City. The Company includes eleven full-time dancers and maintains a repertory of more than 70 works choreographed by David Parsons. Since 1985, Parsons Dance has toured an average of 32 weeks per year, to a total of more than 250 cities, 35 countries, six continents and millions of audience members. Many more have
seen Parsons Dance on PBS, Bravo, A&E Network and the Discovery Channel. In addition to choreography and performance, Parsons Dance is committed to audience development and arts education for participants of all ages and all levels of artistic experience. Parsons Dance regularly offers outreach opportunities including post-show discussions, master classes, open rehearsals, and studio showcases. In partnership with Marymount Manhattan College, Parsons Dance offers an annual, accredited “Summer Intensive” study program for professional and pre-professional (student) dancers. The Summer Intensive attracts students from across the United States and several foreign countries.

EAST VILLAGE OPERA COMPANY
East Village Opera Company (EVOC) is a musical group dedicated to re-imagining the greatest opera arias through the use of modern instruments and creative arrangements, all the while balancing tradition with renewal. Featuring a virtuosic rock band and string section, the band has recorded three CDs and
tours extensively, introducing crowds around the world to their fresh take on this classic art form. Co-founder Peter Kiesewalter describes the band’s music as “The pomposity of opera meets the majesty of rock... and vis versa”

DAVID PARSONS (Artistic Director/Co-Founder) founded Parsons Dance in 1987 with lighting designer Howell Binkley. Since then, he has created more than 70 works for the company, through commissions from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, American Ballet Theatre, the American Dance Festival, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, New York City Ballet, Paul Taylor Dance Company, the Spoleto Festival, and Het Muziektheater in Amsterdam, among others. His works have also been performed by BatSheva Dance Company of Israel, English National Ballet, Feld Ballets/NY, Hubbard Street Dance Company, Nederlands Dans Theatre, and Paris Opera Ballet, among many others. He choreographed and directed the dance elements for Times Square 2000, the 24-hour festivities in Times Square celebrating the turn of the Millennium, viewed live on television by billions of people all over the globe.
Mr. Parsons enjoys a remarkable career as a performer, choreographer, teacher, director, and producer of dance. He has toured and taught with his company on six continents. In September 2007, he directed and choreographed Gotham Chamber Opera’s production of María de Buenos Aires, which made its world premiere at a sold-out engagement at NYU’s Skirball Center for the Arts in New York City. In the July 27, 2007 issue of The New York Times, Jennifer Dunning called him “one of the great movers of modern dance.” In June 2007, Mr. Parsons was the first contemporary choreographer to stage work at the centuries-old Arena di Verona, where he choreographed Verdi’s Aida. He is a recipient of the 2000 Dance Magazine Award, as well
as the 2001 American Choreography Award, for his work with AEROS, a production featuring the Romanian Gymnastic Federation broadcast on the Bravo Channel. From 1978-1987, Mr. Parsons was a leading dancer with the Paul Taylor Dance Company, where Mr. Taylor created many roles for him in works such as Arden Court, Last Look, and Roses. He has appeared as a guest artist with the Berlin Opera, MOMIX, the New York City Ballet, and the White Oak Dance Project. As a director and choreographer, he has collaborated with such artists as John Corrigliano; Earth, Wind and Fire; East Village Opera Company; Morton Gould; Donna Karan; Alex Katz; William Ivy Long; Santo Loquasto; Dave Matthews; Milton Nascimento; Robert Rauschenberg; Steely Dan; and Billy Taylor. Film: Fool’s Fire, directed by Julie Taymor; American Playhouse; and Rita Blitt’s documentary Caught in Paint. Television: Bravo broadcast of Aeros; PBS production of Remember Me, a world premiere production by Parsons Dance and the East Village Opera Company; Parsons Dance repertory production in Denmark; the hit Italian reality television show “Amici;” PBS production of Billy Taylor music with Parsons Dance’ and RAI television dance celebration of Pisa, Italy. Mr. Parsons has cultivated an educational partnership with Marymount Manhattan College, which hosts the annual Parsons Dance Summer Intensive. Education outreach, workshops, lecture and demonstration events, and Master Class venues include Juilliard, Columbia Business School and UCLA.
ELIZABETH KOEPPEN (Associate Artistic Director) was born and raised in Virginia Beach, VA, where she began her training with Judith Hatcher and Darlene Kelly. She continued her education at SUNY Purchase where she received her B.F.A. under the instruction of Gayle Young, Larry Clarke, Kevin Wynn, Rosanna Seravalli, and Betti-Jane Sills. Teaching credits for The Parsons Dance Company include SUNY Purchase, The Juilliard School, NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, The 92nd Street Y, the New Arts Festival, Baltimore School of the Arts, Peridance, and Dancespace. Ms. Koeppen has staged works by Mr. Parsons on numerous companies, including the Milwaukee Ballet, Dallas Black Dance Theater, Repertory Dance Theater, New York City Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Les Ballet Jazz de Montreal, Louisville Ballet, and Roland Petit’s Ballet National de
Marseille. She would like to thank her family and friends for their love and support. Ms. Koeppen joined Parsons Dance in 1989.
ANNMARIE MILAZZO (Female Vocalist) is an arranger, composer, and lyricist living in NYC. She has done the vocal arrangements for Spring Awakening, the Broadway musical at the Eugene O’Neill Theater, Next To Normal which premiered Off Broadway at Second Stage, Bright Lights, Big City at The New York Theater Workshop and the Paramount feature film, The Marc Pease Experience, starring Ben Stiller. Some of her most recent work includes a new musical Pretty Dead Girl which premiered at The Sundance Film Festival and is now being produced by the Araca Group in New York City, book by David Henry Wang. Also currently in progress, is the musical Sea Change, based on the Lois Gould novel, book by Karen Hartman. AnnMarie is the lyricist for Franco Dragone’s Carmen, which premiered at The Jolla Playhouse (Madrid, 2009.) She is currently writing lyrics for Cirque du Soleil’s, Le Reve, at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas. AnnMarie’s singing credits include working with artists such as Angelique Kidjo on her Black Ivory Soul Tour also singing with Carlos Santana. She also toured with Jonatha Brooke and performed on her DVD Back In The Circus, shot live in NYC. Currently, AnnMarie is the female vocalist for The East Village Opera Company on Decca/Universal Records.
TYLEY ROSS (Male Vocalist) is a native of Ottawa, Canada. Tyley started performing professionally in his early teens while still a student at Canterbury’s School of the Arts.

ARTISTS BIOS
In the years since then, has been a street busker, a cartoon and voice artist, acted for the small and large screen, written and recorded two solo albums (his composition You Take My Breath Away was featured in the film Woman Wanted directed by Kiefer Sutherland and starring Holly Hunter), and he has performed as a guest soloist with orchestras across Canada and in the USA. After being discovered by Pete Townshend of The Who in 1994, Tyley was cast in the title role of the Canadian premiere of the Who’s Tommy. For his work in that show, he was honored with the Dora Award for Outstanding Performance in a Musical. He spent the next ten years on musical stages across North America, including starring roles at the Shaw and Stratford Festivals, and on Broadway. In 2001, Tyley was introduced to Peter Kiesewalter and they began experimenting with recording opera arias in a variety of modern contexts. This project led to the release of the CD La Donna and the unveiling of the East Village Opera Company in 2004 with a series of acclaimed performances at New York’s Joe’s Pub. Within a year the band had signed a multi-record deal with Decca/Universal, and has since released two CD’s: East Village Opera Company (2005) and Olde School (2008). Tyley has his master’s degree in voice studies from London’s Central School of Speech and Drama.
ABBY SILVA GAVEZZOLI (Dancer) grew up in New Orleans, LA. She studied with Rhonda Edmundson, Charleen Locasio, and Gayle Tabary. After graduating from the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts in 1998, Abby moved to New York to attend Marymount Manhattan College, under the
direction of Katie Langan, Merle Holloman, and Anthony Ferro. In the Spring of 2002, Abby completed her B.F.A. She has been featured in Dance Magazine and Dance Spirit. Abby joined Parsons Dance in 2002.
MIGUEL QUINONES (Dancer) was born in Jamaica, Queens, NY and grew up in Miami, FL. Miguel began his dance studies at the Miami Conservatory under Ruth Weisen. Miguel attended the New World School of the Arts High School and graduated with a focus in visual arts. Miguel has performed works by Robert Battle, Jose Limón, Peter London, and Freddick Bratcher. Miguel received his B.F.A. in dance from New World college in May 2005. Miguel joined Parsons Dance in 2005.
ERIC BOURNE (Dancer) grew up in Midland, MI. He began his training at 16, under the direction of Sandra Black. His formal training started while attending Ryerson University, studying under Nadia Potts, Karen Duplisea, and Vicki St. Denys. He spent his summers in Colorado studying with Linda Kent, Stephen Pier, Nicolas Villeneuve, and Kristopher Storey at Perry – Mansfield. Moving to New York City in January 2007, he danced the role of James in the North American Tour of Twyla Tharp’s Movin’ Out. Eric joined Parsons Dance in August 2008.
SARAH BRAVERMAN (Dancer) is Chicago born and California raised. She trained extensively in the Royal Academy of Dance, under the direction of JoAnna Jarvis and Bernadette Hill, completing all examinations up to advanced II with distinction. In 2006, she became a founding member of NYC based

Sarah joined Parsons Dance in 2008.
MELISSA ULLOM (Dancer) is from Santa Barbara, CA where she trained under Michele Anderson and Denise Rinaldi. Upon graduation from high school, Melissa trained full-time with the Houston Ballet Academy and later the Lou Conte Dance Center/Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. She has worked professionally with Houston Ballet, Houston Grande Opera, Company C Contemporary Ballet, Inaside Chicago Dance, and Santa Barbara Dance Theatre. Melissa graduated with High Honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a B.A. in art history, a minor in exercise and health science. Melissa holds her comprehensive Pilates Certification from Body Arts and Science International. She joined Parsons Dance in 2009.
STEVEN VAUGHN (Dancer) was born in Iowa City, IA and grew up dancing all over the Midwest. Steve graduated in May 2009 from the University of the Arts with a B.F.A. in modern dance. While attending the University of the Arts in Philadelphia he was given the opportunity to perform works by Silvanna Cardell, Martha Graham, and Twyla Tharp, among others while allowing him to present his own choreography. His college career also afforded him the privilege of working professionally
with Diane Sharp-Nachsin’s SHARP Dance Company, Scott Jovovich in Brandywine Ballet Theater, Zane Booker and his Smoke, Lillies, Jade Arts Initiative, and Brian Sanders’ JUNK. Steven joined Parsons Dance in June 2008 as an apprentice and become an official company member in August 2009.
CHRISTINA ILISIJE (Dancer) graduated summa cum laude from Marymount Manhattan College in 2007 with a B.F.A. in dance. Her choreographic work, Naked Branches, was bestowed the Alpha Chi award. Upon graduation she became a company member with Buglisi Dance Theatre where she performed and instructed company outreach. Christina also danced with Maxine Steinman & Dancers and as a guest artist with Take Dance and Shen Wei Dance Arts. Her choreographic work has been presented at St. Mark’s Church and The Hatch. She writes about her passions on her blog Living Dance (www.living-dance.com.) Christina joined Parsons Dance in 2010.
JASON MACDONALD (Dancer), an Orlando native, began his dance training with Melissa Stokes and later with Alberto Alonso and Sonia Calero at Santa Fe College. He has performed with the New York City Opera and Alabama Ballet Company under Artistic Director, Wes Chapman. His repertoire includes Cinderella, Don Quixote, Firebird, and George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker and Serenade. He recently graduated with a B.F.A. in dance and a B.S. in finance from The Florida State University. Jason joined Parsons Dance in August 2010.

IAN SPRING (Dancer) is originally from Middletown, OH where he began his training under the direction of Phyllis DeWeese-Morgan. After graduating from high school, Ian attended Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA. While at Point Park, he had the honor of performing pieces by Robert Battle, Martha Graham, and Kate Skarpetowska among others. Ian graduated with summa cum laude with his B.A. in dance. Ian spent last year working with Dayton Contemporary Dance Company 2. Ian joined Parsons Dance in August 2010.
ELENA D’AMARIO (Apprentice Dancer) was born in Pescara, Italy. She studied modern, ballet, contemporary, and tap at various schools throughout Italy. Over the years, she has won multiple festivals and competitions including the Pescara Dance Festival, the International Expression Dance Competition in 2008, and the TipTap show in 2007 and 2009. Additionally, Elena has appeared on multiple TV shows including “Camera Smile,” “Il ballo delle debuttanti,” and “Tutti x uno.” She eventually auditioned for the popular “Amici 9” series, which led her to winning the opportunity to apprentice with Parsons Dance for the 2010-2011 season. While in the States, Elena is also participating in Broadway Dance Center’s International Student Visa Program.
DAVID HARRISON (Executive Director) has more than twenty-five years of successful administrative experience in the literary, visual and performing arts. Formerly a senior director at ASU Gammage, the arts presenting program at Arizona State University, Harrison has worked successfully with a diverse range of the world’s most important performing
artists. In 1994, Harrison (along with Parsons Dance International Council member Dr. Michael Blachly) was part of a four-university team that co-commissioned and presented the first-ever U.S. national tour of the internationally renowned Tanztheater Wuppertal–Pina Bausch. Recently, Harrison served as executive producer of both the stage and PBS television productions of “Remember Me,” a collaboration with the rock-opera band, East Village Opera Company and David Parson’s very first full-length dance. Harrison is active throughout the performing arts industry, as a Board member, consultant, collaborator and speaker. Harrison joined Parsons Dance in October 2006.
HOWELL BINKLEY (Resident Lighting Designer) is the proud co-founder of Parsons Dance, for which he has designed more than 60 pieces. His Broadway designs include: LoveMusik, Xanadu, Jersey Boys, Avenue Q, Bridge and Tunnel, Dracula, Steel Magnolias, Golda’s Balcony, Hollywood Arms, The Look of Love, Gore Vidal’s The Best Man, Minnelli on Minnelli, The Full Monty, Parade, Kiss Of The Spider Woman, Taking Sides, How To Succeed..., High Society and Grease. Dance: Alvin Ailey, American Ballet Theatre, Hubbard Street Dance and The Joffrey Ballet (Billboards). Howell has also designed works for The Dallas and The Metropolitan Opera Houses. He is a five-time Helen Hayes Award recipient and was awarded the 1993 Sir Laurence Olivier Award and the Canadian Dora Award for Kiss of The Spider Woman. Howell was given the 2006 Henry Hewes Design Award, 2006 Outer Critics Circle Award and the 2006 Tony Award for Jersey Boys.

AUSTIN SCARLETT (Costume Design) has been creative director of the luxury bridal collection, Kenneth Pool from Spring 2006 to Spring 2009, designing six seasons reflecting the line’s signature opulent glamour for a new generation of brides around the world. Austin presented fashion collections under his own name for New York’s fall 2005 and spring 2006 seasons. In 2005, Scarlett appeared in the first season of the Emmy and Peabody award-winning television fashion competition, Project Runway. He was asked to return to the program as guest judge on the latest season. Recognition from the program has led to Austin’s involvement as fashion designer and connoisseur for print, and the web including features in The New York Times, Town and Country, Elle, In Style, New York Daily News and Woman’s Wear Daily. Television appearances include The Today Show, Bravo, MTV, E!, the Discovery Channel, and VideoFashion. In 2003, Austin received his degree in fashion design from New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology with a specialization in couture and eveningwear. From 2001- 2002 Austin studied fine arts at The New York Art Students League.
WILL REID (Sound Designer) received a degree in business management from SUNY Old Westbury in 1990. In 1993, he worked for “SK Sytems” as an audio engineer working on such projects as national tours with “Good Morning America” and “MTV” Networks. In the following years he toured with a variety of rock / pop acts including “They Might Be Giants”, “Dee Snyder”, and most recently “East Village Opera Company.” Since 1999 Will has been project manager and
engineer for “ESP New York”. At ESP he is responsible for sound design on a wide variety of events ranging from “The Sundance Film Festival” to the grand opening of the “Rock and Roll Museum Annex in NY.”

The History and Mystery of the Universe (Rubicon Theatre), Sunday in the Park with George (director Jason Alexander, Reprise!), The Sequence (Boston Court), Durango (directed by Chay Yew, East West Players), Best in Drag AIDS Benefit, The 2006 Ovation Awards, Evel Knievel the Rock Opera (Bootleg Theatre), C’Opera (Collage Dance Theatre Company), Access by Jerry Quickley and Flip the Game (CTG’s P.L.A.Y.), 12th Premise (Lillian Theatre). Jason has also designed video content for the LED Tower at the Americana at Brand Shopping Center (Glendale, CA), and is the Associate Projection Designer for Jersey Boys (Broadway and Worldwide). Training: UC San Diego M.F.A. in design.
