Identify healthy meal planning strategies and learn about the benefits of planning meals and snacks. Brought to you by the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. A – 10/22, 10:30 am, Thursday Shore to Age Well: Medications, Pain Management & More Presented by the Ocean County Health Department. Practical Information about use and misuse of medications as well as helpful pain management information. A – 10/22, 5:30 pm, Thursday Take & Make: Fall Holidays Craft Easy way to switch out for holidays and seasonal themes. In the kit you will have fall holiday printouts: Halloween, Veterans Day, and Thanksgiving with instructions. Craft kits are available while supplies last at the Berkeley Branch. A – 10/29, 6 pm, Thursday The Boston Massacre: A Virtual Book Talk by Serena Zabin Uncover a dramatic untold ‘people’s history’ of the event that helped trigger the American Revolution in Serena Zabin’s virtual discussion of her new publication, The Boston Massacre: A Family History. CH – October How to Make Sensory Stress Putty This video provides step by step instructions on how to make stress putty. It also includes sensory tips and how to do other sensory processing activities from home. Recommended for ages 3 – 12. T/TW – 10/11, All Day, Friday Coming Out Stories In honor of National Coming Out Day, check out these YA books exploring a variety of coming out stories.

T/A – 10/12 – 11/10 NEA Big Read Beanstack Challenge The Beanstack Challenge will allow the community to connect to Ron Rash’s Burning Bright story digitally. The participants will complete activities and attend virtual programs to learn about Appalachia and engage with various elements of Rash’s stories. Please register through OCL’s Beanstack page. This program is part of our series of programs for the public as a partner in the Toms River School System’s “NEA Big Read” grant. The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. The goal of the grant program is to bring a community together in programming and conversation around a work of literature.

DVAB/TW – 10/13,10 am – 2 pm, Tuesday Take Home Book Club: Out of My Mind Participate in the Long Beach Island Branch Take Home Book Club for tweens. Pick up a copy to borrow of Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper at the Long Beach Island Branch, including questions about the book and a craft. Books will be available to borrow on a first come, first served basis, while supplies last.

T/TW – 10/21 – 11/18 Take & Make: Cardboard String Art Make a spooky string art design. Pick up your kit at the Stafford Branch, while supplies last.

TW – 10/26, 3:30 pm, Monday DNA in Candy & Books Make an edible DNA strand and a genetic sequence to wear, while learning about DNA and getting good book recommendations. Ages 9 – 13.

T/A – 10/26, 5:30 pm, Monday Music of Appalachia Join us for a musical presentation by Hobo Pie, an old-time and traditional Appalachian string band. Fiddle and banjo tunes, sweet mountain harmonies, humor and fun. Part of our series of programs for the public as a partner in the Toms River School System’s “NEA Big Read” grant. The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
