Mermaid CVC Sort by Jennifer @ http://herdingkats.blogspot.com Clipart from Kirsten @ kpmdoodles Prepare: Print, cut out and laminate each page. This can be used as a small group game or independent work station sort. To Play: 1. Each student gets a mermaid card. 2. Turn all of the ocean creatures face down in the middle of the table. 3. A student choses a ocean creature card and reads the CVC word. If the word matches the word family on their mermaid they may keep the card. If it does not they have to return the card to the middle. 4. Play continues around the table. 5. Game ends when a student successfully finds all 6 of their word family creatures. Note: I included some nonsense words as well as real words since that is part of our Literacy 1 st test. There are also 2 recording sheets for station work.
