    1Device CompositionThe intelligent storage system consists of a controller enclosure and disk enclosures. The systempresents high reliability, blazing performance, and large capacity.

    Different models use different controller enclosures and disk enclosures. Table 1-1lists thecontroller enclosures and disk enclosures used by each model.

    The storage system offers flexible controller enclosure and disk enclosure configurations,allowing on-demand configuration.

    2.1 2 U Controller EnclosureThe 2 U controller enclosure adopts a modular design and consists of a system enclosure,controllers, fan-BBU modules, power modules, disk modules and interface modules.

    2.2 4 U Controller Enclosure

    The 4 U controller enclosure adopts a modular design and consists of controllers, backup batteryunit (BBU) modules, power modules, fan modules, and interface modules.

    2.3 2 U SAS Disk EnclosureThe 2U SAS disk enclosure adopts a modular design and consists of a system enclosure,expansion modules, disk modules, power modules, and fan modules.

    2.4 4 U SAS Disk EnclosureThe 4 U SASdisk enclosure adopts a modular design and consists of a system enclosure,expansion modules, disk modules, power modules, and fan modules.

    2.5 File EngineThe file engine adopts a modular design and consists of a system enclosure, controllers, fan

    modules, power modules, and interface modules.

    2.6 Data SwitchThe data switch adopts a modular design and consists of a system enclosure, AC power modules,and fan modules.

    The 2 U controller enclosure adopts a modular design and consists of a system enclosure,controllers, fan-BBU modules, power modules, disk modules and interface modules.

    module, 10 Gbit/s FCoE interface module (optional, choose at least one of the preceding interfacemodules, used for connecting to application servers).

    l 5 Gbit/s PCIe interface modules (in slots A3 and B3): used for connecting controller enclosure.

    3Device ComponentsAbout This Chapter

    This section provides details about components of devices and their indicators.

    3.1 System EnclosureThe system enclosure integrates a midplane in order to provide reliable connections for interfacemodules and to distribute power and signals to inner modules.

    3.2 ControllerA controller is a core component of the storage system. It is responsible for processing storage

    services, receiving configuration and management commands from users, and saving theconfiguration information, managing disks, and storing critical data onto the coffer disks.

    3.3 Fan-BBUModuleThe fan-BBUmodule is hot-swappable. It contains the fan module and BBU module, and it canrealize the system heat dissipation and backup power supply. The fans support intelligent speedcontrol. The controller determines and adjusts the rotational speed of the fans according to thetemperature of the system.

    3.4 Fan ModuleThe fan modules are hot-swappable. The intelligent speed control function enables the fanmodule to intelligently adjust the fan speed according to system temperature.

    3.5 BBU ModuleBBU modules provide backup power when the external power supply of the system fails toensure the integrity of the service data on the storage array.

    3.6 Power ModuleThe storage system supports AC power modules. The power modules can ensure that the storagesystem works correctly in maximum power consumption mode.

    3.7 I/O Interface ModuleI/O interface modules connect storage devices to application servers. The storage device supports8 Gbit/s Fibre Channel, 16 Gbit/s Fibre Channel, 1 Gbit/s iSCSI, 10 Gbit/s TCP offload engine(TOE), and 10 Gbit/s Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), 5 Gbit/s PCIe interface modules.

    A management module provides a management network port, a maintenance network port, anda serial port. The management module saves system configuration data, alarm data, and log dataonto solid-state drive (SSD) coffer disks.

    3.9 Expansion Module

    An expansion module provides expansion ports that are used for communication between acontroller enclosure and a disk enclosure. The module transfers data between a controllerenclosure and a disk enclosure.

    3.9 Expansion Module

    An expansion module provides expansion ports that are used for communication between acontroller enclosure and a disk enclosure. The module transfers data between a controllerenclosure and a disk enclosure.

    6 Gbit/s SAS Expansion Module of a 4 U Controller Enclosure

    A SAS interface module provides two 4 x 6 Gbit/s mini SAS ports that provides connectivity todisk enclosures. The SAS interface module connects to the back-end storage array of the storagesystem through a mini SAS cable and provides 4 x 6 Gbit/s mini SAS ports for controllers. Whenthe transfer rate of the connected device is less than that of the expansion port, the expansionport automatically adjusts the transfer rate to that of the connected device to ensure theconnectivity of the data transfer channel.

    Indicators help users to preliminarily judge whether the device is working properly.

    4.1 Indicator Description (2 U Controller Enclosure)After a controller enclosure is powered on, you can learn about the operating status of thecontroller enclosure by observing the indicators on it.

    4.2 Indicator Description (4 U Controller Enclosure)After a controller enclosure is powered on, you can learn about the operating status of thecontroller enclosure by observing the indicators on it.

    4.3 Indicator Description (2 U SAS Disk Enclosure)After a disk enclosure is powered on, you can learn about the operating status of the diskenclosure by observing the indicators on it.

    4.4 Indicator Description (4 U SAS Disk Enclosure)After a disk enclosure is powered on, you can learn about the operating status of the diskenclosure by observing the indicators on it.
