Stand Up, Speak Up In March, the Stand Up,

Speak Up anti-bullying program is highlighting the positive attribute of “leadership.” Leadership is be-ing able and willing to influence or guide others. Positive leaders are responsible, trustworthy, and re-spectful. They are role models for others. We show positive leader-ship when we make the smart choice, even in a difficult situa-tion. The following scenario was shared with students:

The Worcester County Media Expo 2020 was held February 13th at the Worcester Technical High School and was a great night for students at OCES. Pictured are some of the OCES partici-pants who earned medals. The students who par-ticipated are: Abbott Eschenburg, Aiden Backof, Alice Brailko, Arif Alhamad, Beatriz Kramer, Ce-cilia Diehlmann, Clementine Kohut, Dorian Messick, Elias Baldridge, Gabriel Dawkins, Isabella Brueck-ner, Israel David, Lamis Omar, Mary Wall, Opal Hambury, Payton Caprarola, Samuel Chase Bergey, Skylar Fluckey, Spencer Steffy and Stefan Michev. Congratulations!

In February, students participated in the Kids Heart Challenge—a fun and ex-citing event where students learned about their heart and how to lead an active lifestyle. Students also helped others by raising money for the Ameri-can Heart Association. During the 2020 Challenge, students raised over $21,500. Thank you to all who helped make this years’ Challenge a tremen-dous success!

From the School Nurse

TOOTH DECAY (cavities) is the most common chronic disease found in children. Left untreated, tooth decay can cause pain, in-fections and problems with eat-ing, speaking and learning. To avoid tooth decay:

Visit your dentist twice a year for a routine check up and cleaning.

Brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.

WE HAVE SPIRIT!

YES, WE DO!

Have a Heart Spirit Day was on February 14th. Ms. Thompson

and students show just

how much spirit

they have!

Students recognized and observed the contributions of African Americans during African American History month in Febru-ary. They especially en-joyed a visit from Mrs. Betty Washington, a re-tired teacher and Berlin native who read and talked to students about African American history.

2020-2021 PreK 3, PreK 4, and K Registration

The goal of Pre-Kindergarten in the public schools is to provide learning experiences to help young children build their skills so they are more likely to do well in school. To be eligible for the Pre-Kindergarten 4 program, children must be four years old on or before September 1, 2020. In addi-tion, they also must be from families that are economically disadvantaged or homeless. All economi-cally disadvantaged children who apply will be enrolled first; however, if there are spaces left, oth-er children may be enrolled.

Children who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2020 must register for Kindergarten. Children who are currently attending PreK-3 or PreK-4 at OCES do not need to register for PreK-4 or Kindergarten. PreK-3 students will automatically be enrolled in PreK-4. PreK-4 students will auto-matically be enrolled in Kindergarten.

Pre-Kindergarten 4 and Kindergarten registration takes place on March 16h and 17th.

The following documents must be brought to the registration appointment:

Birth Certificate (not a birth registration notice)

Social Security Card

Current Immunization Record

Proof of Residency in the Ocean City Elementary School district (deed, lease, or current utility bill that lists a service area in the OCES district)

For PreK registration only: proof of income if you want your child to be considered for priority enrollment (2019 W-2 income tax form from your employer)

2020-2021 PreK 3

The PreK 3 program provides children with Individualized Education Plans (IEP) an opportunity to learn alongside typically developing peers. Children must be 3 years old on or before September 1, 2020 and must be potty trained. Please call the office to request an interest packet. After parents complete the interest packet, children will be screened by the PreK 3 teacher to determine if they are an optimal peer model. A limited number of peer models will be enrolled. If you have questions please contact Linda McGean, School Counselor at 410-632-5381.
