Efficient & powerful.3-5 students (4 is ideal).Short notes to each other about a rich, complex topic assigned by the teacher.
Jot, pass, read, & add.All students writing…no off-task time.2 rules: 1) Use all the time for writing & 2) Don’t talk when passing.
Silent Discussion
No small groups required.Each student jots down 2 questions.** Pass the papers.Choose a question; comment or answer.Write another question (brand new or follow-up).

PARTNERSHIP for ASSESSMENT of READINESS for COLLEGE and CAREER
OMS will be Field Testing some parts of PARCC in March 2014.
1. Tennessee helped build it.2. Grades 3-11, begin 2014-2015, Achievement
tests RLA & MATH=PARCC. Science & Soc Studies remain TCAP.
3. Allows comparison to other states.4. Two separate windows/components—PBA
Feb or Mar & End of Year Apr or May5. Students’ final scores combines the two
components. ELA/Literacy = 3 parts, Math = 2 parts.
OMS & PARCC
6. 60% of ELA/Lit will involve writing.7. 60+% of Math will be on “major work of
grade.”8. Includes many different type questions.9. Hand-scored questions on Constructed
Response & Writing responses.10. IEP accommodations will support PARCC.11. Administered ONLINE-testing cycled
through students.12. No grammar in isolation— assessed in
WRITING.
