Kindergartners “Kan” do “Kandinsky”! All of our kindergarten classes worked on art projects that combine color and shapes from our math unit. We made or are in the process of making abstract art inspired by Wassily Kandinsky and tried painting feelings instead of what our eyes saw. Soon we will be inspired by the surrealism of Joan Miro and the dreamlike paintings that he is famous for. This week we will be working on a fun Halloween art and math including boingy ghosts and spooky math problems. **************************************************** Folder Reminder Please help your child to bring his/her folder every day. Don’t forget that during the middle of the week, we will send home work done in class. Please remember to take all the work out that night. It is for you to keep. Also for K2, if you ever see a blank page or two in a stapled packet or by itself, that either means we chose not to do that particular page, we didn’t have time for it, or your child was absent on the day we worked on it in class. These pages are things you r child can do for fun at home. Progress Reports You should have received a progress report last week letting you know your child’s progress thus far. Parent-teacher conferences will be in Nov. Arroyo Vista Kindergarten K1: Mrs. Ishibashi and Mrs. Reddy K2: Mrs. Martinez and Mrs. Yee Weekly Memo Oct. 10, 2016 Week 9 Kindergarten is Coding! Our wonderful computer teacher, Mr. Daniel, has been introducing us to basic coding in computer lab. Last week we began a new program to help the angry birds fight against the greedy pigs. Each new level required a bit more coding to accomplish the goal. It was very fun and challenging! Happy Earth Day! Stay Cool! More Hot Weather This Week!

Weekly Memo Oct. 10, 2016 Week 9

Kindergarten is Coding!

Pumpkin Day is Coming Oct. 26th! As we mentioned last week, please bring in a

pumpkin in starting the week of the 24th, It should be small enough that your child can carry it from center to center. However, please do NOT bring in those little 1-2 inch high decorative kind--they don’t work very well for our special pumpkin math activities. Also, if you can buy pumpkins that have distinct section lines or ridges on it, that also would be very helpful for the centers. If you are unable to bring in a pumpkin due to financial reasons, please let us know and we can work something out. We will return your pumpkin at the end of the day. It will not be carved. Also, we need a couple extra volunteers for the centers on that day. If you can help, please contact your teacher. Thanks so much!

Friday, Oct. 28th Double Session Friday., Oct 28th - Arroyo Vista’s Halloween Parade begins first thing in the morning. On that day, all students will need to arrive at the morning time of 8:10a.m. - 11:35 a.m. Thank you for your cooperation. Parents are welcome to watch the parade, which will take place out on the main playground. Parking around school will be terrible, so plan to come earlier to find a space or park a couple of blocks away and walk over. Please leave yourself plenty of time so your child is not late for the parade. Costumes: All the kindergartners will be spiders, in honor of our project based science unit on spiders. Please try to have your child wear black or dark clothing on that day and we will make spider hats in class. Their actual costume can be enjoyed Halloween night and should NOT be worn at school on that day.
