What Will You Be Wearing Forthe Holidays?with Layne Gautreau

The holidays are always a specialexcuse to get dressed up in yourfinest clothes. Whatever outfit youselect, there is a wide choice ofelegant jewelry pieces to go withit…from dramatic contemporarystyles, enchanting traditionaldesigns, or fun flirty baubles.

For the fashion-forward look, choose jewelry with eye-poppingcolor. For the retro-eccentric look, choose one of the latest fashiondesigns made-up of exciting geo-

metric shapes. Newest creationsfeature pendants and earringsdesigned with stunning circles ofsparkling white diamonds anddelightful elongated teardrops.

If you favor a traditional look, remember that the customary New

Year’s colors are “black andwhite”, symbolizing the birth ofthe New Year and the death of theold one. Classic black and whitejewelry is always in fashion.Popular items include black andwhite pearls, black and white diamonds, plus opaque gems such as black onyx.

BirthstonesOctober – Opal & Tourmaline. Those born in October are luckyto have a choice of two beautifuland distinctive gemstones. Forcenturies, Opal and Tourmalinehave offered the power of hope

and harmony to those born in this month.

In the Middle Ages, Opal was considered a stone that could provide great luck because it wasbelieved to possess all the virtuesof each gemstone whose color wasrepresented in the color spectrumof the opal.

While transparently clear,Tourmaline comes in a rainbow ofcolors … more than almost anyother gem. Old Egyptian legendstates Tourmaline passed througha rainbow on its way up from thecenter of the earth assuming all ofthe colors of the rainbow.

Jewelry DoctorCare Tips for DiamondsDiamond is the hardest substanceknown to man. It is a brilliant, sparkling, and durable gem but itis also a magnet for grease. If youwear your diamonds every day, soap, cosmetics, skin oils, and

lotions tend to build up and canform a film that dulls a diamond’slively sparkle.

To clean your diamonds yourself, soak diamonds in a solution ofwater, detergent, and ammonia. Then scrub gently with a softbrush. Put the jewelry in a finewire strainer and rinse under warmrunning water. The strainer prevents diamonds from slippingdown the drain.

To keep your diamonds lookingtheir best they should be cleanedregularly. The safest way is to letus do it for you using a high powered steam bath made specifically for cleaning gems andjewelry. That way we can alsomake sure prongs or other settingsare not weak or loose.

Up!Castor oil, also known as the palm of Christ, is a light yellowemollient that comes from the castor bean. Castor oil is a complex fatty acid and has antifungal, antibacterial properties. Most people know that it works aslaxative when taken orally, but it’salso used in a variety of manufacturing processes for waxes, dyes, perfumes and more.

I use castor oil as an all naturalbeauty remedy. When I buy castoroil, I look for 100 percent purecastor oil that is expeller pressed. The latest bottle I purchased offAmazon for about $10.

I’ve long since used it on my eyelashes to make them long and soft, but I’ve recently used it as a biweekly hair treatment after noticing the ends of my hair wassuper dry. I applied it to the endsand even rubbed some into myscalp, then slept with the oil in myhair overnight and then washed ittwice before styling. The ends ofmy locks were dramatically softerand more pliable. Also, I’ve readreviews online people have statedthat their hair grew dramaticallyfaster after weekly oil treatments.Who doesn’t want that?

Castor oil can also be used on theface. Yes, I put castor oil all overmy face before bed. I know you

might think it’s a bit heavy, but itdoes absorb into the skin fairlyquickly. I don’t use it on my faceevery night, but when I feel likemy skin needs additional moisture. Also, I get nicks and bumps on mylegs and using castor oil hashelped heal scars much faster thanjust Neosporin and a band aid.

Get Becca’sRadiant GlowMy newest beauty find is Ah-maz-ing! It’s Beccas Shimmering SkinPerfector in Champagne Pop. It’sa pressed powder compact with asoft white gold powder that willreflect light off your face like noother hilighter. It’s super natural, and has become a daily part of my

makeup routine. I typically use itabove my blush on my uppercheekbones and on the inside corner of the eyes, even sometimesjust on the tip of my nose.

You can order this skin productonline or get it at Sephora for$38.00, but get it soon, because I believe it’s a limited edition! This is absolutely the BESThilighter on the market.

Since we have met, her passion for thetheatre has rubbed off on me and now I’m

hooked.”

Shaving his longhair off for thisproduction is MarkLambert, whoplays the genderambiguous character Fester. ”I thought UncleFester would be adelightful roleplay. He has a lotof humor; he gets

to be both endearing and utterly ridiculous!”

The “normal” family of Mal, Alice and LucasBeniecke are played by Michael Mason, ErinPerdue Brownfield, and Joe Carleton. Carleton, who plays Wednesday’s boyfriend Lucas, is atheatre newcomer and is enjoying the theatre.“The best times in rehearsals are when some-one in the cast tries a joke for the first time.Everyone dies laughing!”

Brownfield, portraying Alice Beniecke, willentertain audiences with her “transformation”

during this production. ”I haven't been up therein a while, because I have been serving asmusical staff, but I thought this is a good timefor me to get back on the stage. Any time thelights are on my face and people are laughingis a good time for me!”

When it comes to the term“branding,” it’s much more thanjust your logo. Defining yourbrand is like a journey of businessself-discovery. It can be challenging, time-consuming and a little uncomfortable. However, it can be done.

Throughout the brandingprocess, the goal is to distinguishyourself in your industry, so youcan obtain your goals and ambitions. No matter the size ofyour company, branding is one ofthe most vital aspects of anybusiness. Your brand is cultivatedfrom who you are, who you wantto be and who people perceiveyou to be.

Whether you are branding yourself, your company or aproduct, there are several stepsyou can follow. All go hand-in-hand.

Defining YourGoalsSimply stated, you need to defineyour goals and objectives. Whatexactly do you want to achieve?Maybe you want to be known asthe best project manager in anindustry. Or maybe you want tobe the best-known pool developer in your region. Be sure to clearly indicate what youwant now and what you wantinto the future.

Research,Research,ResearchNow that you know your aspirations, you need to do some research. Look at yourcompetitors or those who haveachieved what you want in theend. What can you learn fromthem? How are they brandingthemselves? It’s important toevaluate both the good and badthings. Each can help you seewhat you should and should not do.

BrandCharacteristicsNext, you need to determine

your brand attributes. Ask yourself, what do you want yourbrand to express? • Make a list of adjectives youwish your customers or peerswill think when describing yourpersonal brand or business. • What particular niche of anindustry do you want to beknown for? • What distinguishes brands inyour market from others? • Do you have a tagline?

Current StateAfter defining your goals, doingsome research and determiningyour brand characteristics—youneed to check out your currentstate. Does your brand have acurrent perception by the public? If it does, what is that in comparison to where you wantto be? Assess the changes you

need to make from your currentbrand state.

Game Plan TimeWith all that in mind, now youneed a game plan. Time to yourintegrate brand. Keep in mind;this is much more than brandingthrough social media channels.Your logo should be the centerfold of your brand, yourwebsite and promotional materials. Next, the language youutilize should be the samethroughout all aspects of yourbrand. How you communicatevisually and verbally is a crucialpart of brand strategy.

Managing YourBrand Once your brand is in place, you have to manage it. Using aproactive approach, manage allaspects of your brand from yourwebsite to social media, makingsure all aspects are in sync.Consistency is the key.

Finally, as a marketing, brandingand web development agency, defining brands is a part of ourdaily work. We understand thedifficulties in setting yourself apart from the rest. We hope thatthat these steps help you in yourbranding development.

Replacingmissing teethwith Implants

By Calvin Bessonet, DDS,FAGD

Statistics show that 69% of adults ages 35 to 44 have lost at least onepermanent tooth to an accident, gumdisease or decay. By age 74, 26% ofthe population has lost all of theirpermanent teeth. If these numbersapply to you and you are selfconscience about missing teeth orwearing dentures, there’s analternative that may be right for you:dental implants. A dental implantoffers comfort and stability and is arestoration that is the closest thing to a natural tooth.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are ‘anchors’ thatlook like cylinders or screws. They arereplacements for natural tooth rootsand are used in the upper and lowerjaws. They are made of titanium andother materials that are well-suited tothe human body. They attach to thejawbone and gum tissue to become astable base for one or more customartificial replacement teeth, calleddental crowns. Implant crowns can beused to replace missing teeth insteadof the traditional alternatives such asfixed bridges and dentures. The drawback to a fixed bridge is that the

two teeth on both sides of the spacemust be ‘cut down’ to support thebridge. Often times these teeth areperfectly healthy with no need fortreatment otherwise. Bridges also putextra strain on these teeth as they areexpected to function for the ones lost. With implants, you are simply puttingthe tooth that was lost back in itsplace using a titanium ‘root’.

Why do I need to replacemissing teeth?

Besides the obvious cosmetic andsocial concerns, there’s another priceto pay for losing teeth - bone loss inyour jaw. When teeth are removed,Mother Nature assumes there is nolonger a need for the bone thatsupported the teeth. Over time thebone slowly, yet progressivelydiminishes and the upper and lowerjawbone get smaller and shrink. Thisprocess, called resorption, occurs at amore rapid rate if all teeth in the jaware missing. If left untreated, the lossof jaw bone can progress so far that adenture will no longer stay in place nomatter how much sticky adhesive isused. If implants are placed whenteeth are lost, the bone will be savedand retained at its current level by theimplants. This will also help preserve amore youthful appearance by?avoiding the inevitable tissue and lip‘collapse’ that comes with tooth loss.Even losing just one tooth can causeyour other teeth to shift, which canthrow your bite off and cause TMJdisorders leading to severe and?frequent headaches along with toothwear. Teeth next to the space andabove or below it can also suffer bone

loss and periodontal problems.

What can I do about myloose dentures?

Dental implants can be used toprovide stability and support to fulland partial dentures. Many patientswho have selected dental implantsdescribe a quality of life that is muchmore comfortable and secure than thelifestyle endured by those withill-fitting loose dentures.

Conventional dentures oftenmake a person feel and lookolder than they are, cause?

Embarrassment in social situationswhen they slip and click, and restrictthe everyday pleasure of eatingcomfortably. Dentures supported byimplants allow people to enjoy ahealthy and varied diet, renewedself-confidence, an active lifestyle without the worry of their teeth‘popping out’, and the ability to speakclearly. For these reasons, patientswho have their dentures secured withimplants often say they feel better, look better, and live better. You oftendo not even have to have a newdenture made. Many times your existing denture can be fitted andsecured to the implants placed the same day!

What is involved?

The process of replacing teeth withimplants includes an initial visit to afamily dentist who offers implanttreatment. At this appointment,X-rays will be taken and the areas to

be restored will be examined, alongwith the rest of the mouth. Next, theimplants will be placed where neededand left alone for three months. Insome instances, a temporary tooth can be attached to the implant thesame day. There is no discomfort during the procedure as the areas will be numb. Sedation is also available if desired. There may be slight soreness, equivalent to getting a filling done, for one or two daysafter the implants are placed. Threemonths later the implant will be evaluated for fusion with the jawbone. At this appointment, an impression or‘mold’ will be taken of the implantand sent to a dental laboratory wherethe permanent crown or ‘cap’ will bemade. The next appointment involvessimply cementing the permanentcrown on the implant. For implantsbeing used to stabilize a denture, thedenture will be fitted to the implantsthe same day or in three months, depending on the situation.

Who is a candidate fordental implants?

Whether you are a young,middle-aged or older adult; whetheryou need to replace one tooth, severalteeth, or all your teeth, there is adental implant solution for you. Allthat you need to do to get started isset up a consultation appointmentwith a dentist who provides implanttreatment. From here, the dentist willexplain all of your options inobtaining that healthy, youthful, and functional smile.

THE SETTLEMENT OFROBIN WILLIAMS’ ESTATE: What We Can Learn About theImportance of Planning forDistribution of Personal Property

Since Robin Williams’ death, hiswidow and three children havebeen in a bitter dispute over thesettlement of his estate. This isnot unusual in high profile caseswhere there is a lot of money atstake. However, the partiesrecently settled their dispute, andwhile the full terms of that settle-ment are secret, there is much wecan learn from it about theimportance of dealing with distri-bution of your personal property.

Among the items in disputebetween Robin Williams’ wifeand children were family photos, clothing, his bicycle collection, watches and the tuxedo he wasmarried in. While these itemsprobably have very little mone-tary value, they must have a lotof sentimental value. Like theWilliams family’s situation, dis-putes over items of sentimentalvalue are often as bitter and hard-fought as disputes over greatamounts of wealth. I once had ashotgun and TV in my office forweeks because family memberswere fighting over who theyshould go to. We finally shippedthem to the deceased’s son inanother state. The cost of ship-ping probably outweighed theirvalue. To prevent this type ofproblem, when you plan yourestate and how it will be distrib-uted you should also plan for thedistribution of your personalproperty.

Many times people tell me thattheir family will be able to dividetheir personal property amicablyand there is no need to dispose ofit in their will or trust. While thismay be true in some cases, Ialways suggest that if they havepersonal property with a lot ofmonetary value (like expensive

jewelry, coin collections or othervaluables) they should probablydistribute those items in their willor trust. Even for items that arenot valuable, if you suspect theremay be any disagreement amongyour heirs, you should also listthose items specifically in yourwill or trust. Only in this mannercan you ensure that those itemswill pass to whom you want atdeath. Any gift of property, including personal property, mustbe made in a will or trust to belegally binding.

Another common issue, whichwas also present in the RobinWilliams dispute, is making surethat your personal property issecured at death so it can pass asyou wish. In the Williams’ case,Robin’s widow claimed thatmany items of personal propertywere removed from their homewithout her consent or knowl-edge. Unfortunately, this oftenhappens. To help prevent this, letyour executor know what itemsyou plan to leave to specific peo-ple and make sure he knows heshould secure your personalbelongings as soon as is practicalafter death.

In the end, Williams’ widow,Susan Schneider Williams, received only a fraction of thelate actor’s estate, which is esti-mated to be over $100 million. She did receive a watch that hewore often, some clothing, their

wedding gifts and a bicycle theybought together on their honey-moon. After the settlement, sheremarked that it was painful tosee truckloads of their belongingsremoved from their home, but“it’s the few sentimental items Iget to hold onto that meaneverything to me.”

Like Ms. Williams, the personalproperty you hand down to yourheirs may mean much more tothem than the monetary gifts youleave. When planning for distri-bution of your estate, make sure

you don’t forget about your per-sonal property. Failure to consid-er those items could result in bit-ter disputes among your heirsthat might end in lawsuits. Aswith anything dealing with yourestate planning, you shouldalways work with professionalswho are knowledgeable about thesubject and applicable laws soyou can have the peace of know-ing your plan will be carried outas you intended.

LATISSE® Q &AWhat isLATISSE®?

LATISSE® (bimatoprost

ophthalmic solution) 0.03% is

the first and only prescription

treatment approved by the FDA

for inadequate or sparse

eyelashes – lashes grow longer,

fuller and darker.

How doesLATISSE® work?

LATISSE® is believed to affect

the growth (anagen) phase of

the eyelash hair cycle in two

ways: first, it increases the

length of this phase; and

second, it increases the number

of hairs in this growth phase.

How is LATISSE® applied?

LATISSE® is applied each

evening to the base of the upper

eyelashes. Before applying

LATISSE® makeup should be

removed as well as contact

lenses (If applicable). Contact

lenses can be placed back in the

eye after 15 minutes following

the application of LATISSE®.

Using the single-use applicator

brush provided in the package,

one drop of LATISSE® is

placed on the applicator brush

and applied to the base of the

upper eyelid lash margin. The

same process is repeated using a

fresh applicator brush to avoid

cross contamination.

How long does ittake to see resultsusing LATISSE®?

LATISSE® users may see results

as soon as 4 weeks with full

results at 12 to 16 weeks. The

growth is gradual and over

time. If the use of LATISSE® is

discontinued, eyelashes are

expected to return to their

previous appearance over

several weeks to months.

What are potentialside effects ofLATISSE®?

The most common side effects

after using LATISSE® solution

are an itching sensation in the

eyes and/or eye redness. This

was reported in approximately

4% of patients in the clinical

study. Other less common side

effects include skin darkening,

eye irritation, dryness of the

eyes and redness of the eyelids.

It was a one hundred acre forestthat was rectangular in shape. Theentire block was surrounded by a dirtroad. It was named "the hatchery" bymembers of the Romeville HuntingClub, probably because on severaloccasions doe deer had been observedduring the summer months givingbirth to their young in this area. As faras I remember the club never turnedthe deer hounds loose on this piece ofland.

My first memory of the place bringsme back to lying on the bank of one ofthe ditches that surrounded it shootingcrows in the evening with my thenvery young father. I was a true young-ster in those days, probably six orseven years old. The gun I was shoot-ing was a single shot Harrington &Richardson 20 gauge. Dad was shoot-ing a single shot 22 magnum Colt riflewith a scope at the crows flying over-head. On several occasions he wouldconnect with one of the crows inflight. He was a great shot back thenand one of the best, to this day, thatI've ever seen. As the crows continuedto fly, a pair of wood ducks passed overour heads. I jumped up and shot. Itwas probably luck, but I knockeddown one of the ducks. I'm sure thatduck season was not open at that time, but back in those days it didn't make awhole lot of difference to us. That wasmy first memory of many that thehatchery would give to my life.

I had followed my old man aroundthrough the woods watching him huntsince the day I was old enough towalk. On one particular Octobermorning he decided to let me make asquirrel hunt without his guidance. The hatchery was a excellent choiceconsidering that it was surrounded byheadlands and there was no way Icould get lost. At daylight that morn-ing I watched him walk off and Ientered the woods on my own for thefirst time. A couple squirrels outsmart-ed me at the beginning of the hunt, but in an instant my luck wouldchange. As I approached the shakinglimb, a beautiful black squirrel jumpedinto view. I was shaking uncontrollablyas I cocked the hammer and took aim. After firing it was evident that my shothad hit its target. It was not a directhit and the small creature struggled tohang on. I reloaded and shot again,

and again. He finally fell. I tucked himunder mybelt and out the woods I came. To thisday, my dad still recalls the momentthat he saw me coming down that roadwith that black tail flying in the breezeas I approached him.

The hatchery's life as a forest cameto an end that following summer. Thelandowners decided to cut the timberand transition it into a sugarcane field. After the trees were harvested, they setfire to the remaining foliage. That win-ter is when I first witnessed my fatherand others shooting wood ducks thatwere flying to roost. On cold mistynights I would tag along with them toheadlight rabbits and woodcocks andto this day I can still see those pinkeyes a-shining.

Each of us probably have similarmemories of such places in our life thatare no longer with us. That little patchof woods helped make me what I amtoday. Being able to venture into thewoods alone and being trusted with aloaded firearm were no doubt thebeginning of becoming a responsibleadult. Although many of the things Ilearned from the hatchery were wrong,it is because of those things that Ilearned right from wrong. It's sad tosay that they'll never be another youngchild walking down that old road withhis first squirrel tail flapping in thebreeze to greet his father. There wasone child that walked that old roadlong ago, and I'm proud to have beenthat child...

Till Next Time,

Enjoy It While You Can...

“That’s all I can stands-Ican’t stands no more!” Popeyethe Sailor on reaching hisbreaking point.

An open letter to candidatesfor Ascension Parish Presidentand Council, LouisianaGovernor and Lt. Governor, allcreditable United StatesPresidential hopefuls andBobby Jindal:

Despite the long history ofblatant discrimination againstmembers on both sides of myfamily, I have chosen to remainsilent for the better part of sixdecades. We were taught toadhere to the philos-ophy of that greatAmerican statesmanEddie Raven ofLafayette who onceso eloquentlycrooned, “I gotbayou water runningin my veins-I don’tback up and I don’tcomplain…”

My mother’s family, the Bullions, accepted their rudeexpulsion fromAcadia in 1755 andaccording to another greatAmerican philoso-pher-one T. JamesBullion-“…came torest in a Cajun land,Spanish moss bedand a catfish pan…”

When thingsdidn’t work out forthe Delaune clandown in Haiti aboutthe same time, myfather’s side tooktheir “Caribbeansoul they could barely control”and headed for New Orleans.

About a hundred years later, our Choctaw relatives declinedto move to Oklahoma- whenthe not-to-be trusted U.S.Government broke still anothertreaty- and became productivecitizens in a country that hadstolen their land.

And our Italian severalgreats-godfather-oops, I meantgrandfather-William Gianelliwas persecuted in New Orleansin the early 1900’s for runninghis own lottery-some 75 yearsahead of his time.

Our poor Irish grandmotherMalvena Callaghan watchedIrish immigrants be treated asexpendable labor in the early

20th century digging canalsand-well, Irish Channels-in theCrescent City and my Bulliongrandparents were forbidden bystate law from speaking theirnative language-French-on theschool grounds of AscensionParish.

Still we survived-some wouldsay prospered-despite all thehardships and roadblocksthrown our way. And we weretaught to respect the law of theland no matter what-even whencivil obedience seemed a viableoption.

That was until October 2,2015, when the final straw that

broke Dorothy Hamill’s backforced me to take action.

It was a clear fall morningwhen I arose to the steady humof asphalt machines and otherroad-building equipment working frantically at the intersection of White Road,Highway 73 and Church Roadto smooth out the massivebumps that have graced ourstreets for almost five years.

“Good,” says you. “Not sofast,” says me.

The smoothing of that intersection has now deprivedme of the one joy I had left inmy tedious day-to-day routine-that, of course, being my dailyDukes of Hazard jump fromthe launch pad ramp at the

White Road Bridge over 73onto the Mt. McKinley-oops,Mt. Denali-size elevation onChurch Road. From there Iusually collect myself in the St.John parking lot, come downslowly from my mountainoushigh and play my route of leastresistance for the day.

I have done everything askedof me by the politically correctpolice. I have changed from a’69 Dodge Charger called the“Robert E. Lee” to a perennial-ly dirty (thanks to construction)2011 Ford Edge affectionatelynamed the “Michael P. Lee”after one of my former St.

Amant catchers.I have eliminated the horn

that blasted out “Dixie”-easilythe most misunderstood songof my lifetime with the possibleexception of “Puff, the MagicDragon”-and replaced it withone that plays a mellow versionof “Southern Nights” by AllenToussaint, a black music legendin New Orleans, and sung byGlen Campbell who is anunfortunate Alzheimer’s victim.

And think of the work I putinto designing my own Flag ofthe South after removing theConfederate Flag with its 13stars from my vehicle.

My new banner also features 13 Southern stars butmine includes Elvis Presley and

Ray Charles singing a duet,Hank Williams harmonizingwith Otis Redding and RonnieVan Zant jamming with B.B.King on one 6-star stretch.

On the other six spots are ablack SEC football player sipping sweet tea with a whiteSouthern belle guzzlingSouthern Comfort, DaleEarnhardt driving MichaelJordon around in a number“23” stock car and LSU’s BillyCannon presenting theHeisman Trophy to LeonardFournette.

The center star belongs tothe biggest center star of all

time-basketball great, rapper, lawman and greatAmerican philosopherShaquille O’Neal. Imean-“Can you dig it?”Now I ask you-howmuch more politicallycorrect can I get?But all of this is now invain because after “only”five years, the aforemen-tioned intersection isnow smoother thanBeyoncé’s backside. How dare you destroyan old man’s only joy,Barber Brothers? But those of you whoknow me well realizethat I am not goingdown without a fight.Like the two grumpy, old, tall-tale-tellingheroes (played superblyby Robert Duvall andMichael Caine) in a vastly underrated moviecalled “SecondhandLions”, I intend to goout with a bang-not awhimper.

On Halloween night, 2015,some 54 years to the day thatCannon made his historic runagainst Ole Miss, Wild Bill willmake one final jump just asEvel Knievel did at Snake RiverCanyon. I will not reveal anydetails of my costume except tosay it will combine fashion elements of Donald Trump, Lil Boosie and Caitlyn Jenner.

At five minutes to midnight,I will leave the Frais Marcheparking lot heading northtoward Baton Rouge, pickingup as much speed as my Edge’ssix cylinders will muster and flyby the Ascension Sheriff ’s sub-station on Airline drawing theattention of on-duty deputies.

Weaving in and out of coneson 73 that I have committed tomemory over the past fiveyears, I will put some distancebetween the law and me beforemaking a Bat-turn onto thenewly paved surface of WhiteRoad.

Taking “Dead Man’s Curve”in front of Nadine’s at break-neck speed, I will then bail outof my vehicle into what remainsof the forest on my family’sproperty and let the Edgecruise to a stop in the trailerpark at the end of the straight-away. This tactic-combinedwith the cast of characters inthat place-should delay the copslong enough to allow me toslip into the woods until I amout of the woods. Remember,I have been exploring this areasince I was six years old and Iknow places in that swamp

where the devil doesn’t go.There I will remain in a

For theLove ofGuitar!

Playing music is a gift, justask anyone that attempts thecraft. Sitting down with yourinstrument, regardless of yourskill level and just creatingsound is a serious thrill. Whenthings “click” and you can playa complete song the rush canbe as great as hitting a homerun or racing a fast car! Forone Gonzales native thingsclicked early on and a thrill ofplaying guitar has fueled hispassion.

Landon Davis first picked up

a guitar while in high school atthe age of 16. He credits olderbrother, Clark Davis, as andearly inspiration. Clark wouldbring back souvenirs from con-certs and let Landon watch hisband rehearse. In 1992Landon got his first chance toplay in a band when MidnightRun was looking for a new gui-

tarist. Landon got the gig toplay alongside Grady Watts,Clinton Broussard, Cory Babinand Wyatt Templet. Around1995 Landon and MidnightRun parted ways. While band-less Landon started listening to great guitarist likeStevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beckand Eddie Van Halen, this

inspired the creation of theblues band, Voodoo Groove. The band would focus on playing classic rock and blueshits featuring some of the bestguitar work or all time andLandon would get to onceagain play guitar live! Theband played around BatonRouge and South Louisianauntil 2000 when Landonattended Holmes JRr. Collegein Mississippi. Studying guitarand playing in the Jazz Bandfrom 2000-2002 Landonlearned technique and theorythat elevated his playing. TheJazz Band at Holmes traveledwith the football team all overMississippi and even performedin New Orleans for severalMardi Gars parades. Landonmoved back to the Gonzalesarea in 2002 and was the origi-nal guitarist for HarveyWallbanges along with TravisFredric, Mike Nickens, BrentBerthelot and Grady Watts. Thevery popular “party band”played all over the coast and

experienced years of success. After a few good years with theWallbangers, Landon starteddoing the blues band full timeagain. This version includedDean Geatreaux, GlennMelancon and KennethKleinpeter and performed againunder the name Voodoo

Groove. After a lineup changein 2007 the band became “The Landon Davis Band” withLandon finally sharing the stagewith older brother Clark Davison Drums and long time friendMike Savario on bass. Wantingto play more Landon jumped atthe opportunity to join the variety band “Party at Joe’s” in2011. As the only guitaristLandon joined the currentlylineup of Joe Godin, MichaMire, Michael McCreary, VictorDrescher, Rusty Richard, Carly Braud.

The love of playing guitar has driven Landon to a life surrounded by music. When heisn’t playing a show you can

find Landon playing most ofthe guitars at his favorite musicstore in town, Music Inc.Landon said, “I couldn't imag-ine life without a guitar. Everypart of my life relates to guitars. Some are like fine art, some are tools and others are recreational. No mater whatmy plans are for the day I haveto play guitar.”

Ghost andGobblin’sand SpookyMemories.

Of Wow. It is my favoritetime of the year. The baseballplayoffs have started, eventhough my team didn’t make it.Without baseball America canjust fold its tent because it isabout the last thing we canagree on.

The Saints are in full swingand their start has a lot to dowith the Halloween Seasonapproaching. They are a littlespooky. They could have FreddyCruger as a defensive line andprobably still couldn’t drawblood.

Oh Yea! There is a footballteam in Baton Rouge that hasour attention. We absolutelyhave a spooky running back forand corner backs or safety’s thathead his way once he breaksthrough the line.

I’d like to say that the NBA

pre-season began and it actuallymattered to me. My regrets goout to the basketball enthusiastbut when defense became a badword in basketball I lost interestin the game. It’s turned intothe street game that the make ittake mentality around the coun-try, became the new NBA. Notfor me. Plus there are somespooky tatoos from head to toe.

I love Halloween. It’s achance to dress up and justhave fun. I have a great friend,Dottie, that is a former cheerleader for the University

of Alabama. I carved her apumpkin with the Bama logo. That team is spooky enough tome because I get scared everytime we play them but thatdoesn’t mean I’m scared so Icarved a LSU pumpkin also.

Halloween brings some mem-ories that I laugh about often. Iremember being in the CaptainsQuarters and complainingabout a bad smell. Then I real-ized I had been Frankenstein in

a haunted house earlier thatevening. We had used a frozencow heart as a prop fo for theoperation room scene. Littledid I realize it was thawing outand soaking into my shirt. Ohmy God, What a smell. ThankGod I had a dirty t-shirt in thecar to change into. I may havelooked liked a Zombie but Ididn’t stink to high heaven.

I remember a night longlong ago. It was 1974. I wasdriving down a gravel road herein Ascension Parish. I think itwas between Hwy 74 and Hwy621 known as the KC Hallroad. I pulled over with my girlfriend to take a great look atthe full moon. Of course, as ayoung man, I was interested inmore than looking at the moon.As we sat in my Volkswagen Istarted telling her a scary storythat as a child scared me and Ioften had night mares about it.I don’t remember the originalversion of the story but Iremember the spooky parts. Itold her, On night unlike this inthe hills of Mississippi there wasa story about a lost heart froma murder love triangle that constantly was searching for itslove. We were looking over a

full moon pasture when I toldher how in the cotton fields ofthe Delta this heart would floatacross the cotton making asound thump, thump, thump, thump. It would move towardanyone in the area of its sight itwould head across the fieldstoward us with the sound, thump, thump, thump, thump. She was starting to get scaredand moved in closer to me, Allof a sudden we heard a soundcoming down the gravel road.A heavy sound moving graveland making a thump. I thoughtsaying thump, thump would befunny but she was scared andrightly so. Something wasstanding next to the car and wewere holding each other tight. There was a heavy breathinggoing on and not wanting tolook I mustard the stones toglance out my window. I slowlyturned and soon as I looked ahorse whinnied and slobberedon me. I jerked my head backand my forehead ricochetted offof her forehead. A knot formedon both of our heads. I crankedthe car and spun gravel as I left.

This time of year is alluringso enjoy it the you can.

Cooking Gourmet at Homewith SNO’S SEAFOOD & STEAKS

Executive Chef Ben Jarreau

Ingredients:• 2 pounds tenderized Gator meat -

cut into cubes• 2 cups Paul Prudhomme’s Blackened

Redfish Magic – awesome stuff!!!• 10 Egg Whites- beaten• 4 Cups Seasoned Flour

(salt, pepper, cayenne, creole seasoning)• 2 Cups BBQ sauce (your favorite kind)• 1 bottle Try Me brand Tiger Sauce (5 oz)• 2 Quarts Frying Oil

In a large Dutch oven or in your Fry Daddy, bring oil up to350* F. Dredge the cubes of gator in the blackening seasoningthen place them into the beaten egg whites and then finallydredge them in the flour. Gently drop the gator into the hotgrease and fry for 4 to 6 minutes. Strain well and allow to coolon a paper towel to allow the excess grease to drain off. Whilethe gator is cooling, in a small mixing bowl, combine the BBQsauce and the tiger sauce and mix well.

Serve the gator with the tiger bbq sauce drizzled over the topor on the side for dipping

Great for those LSU vs. Florida rivalry games or any timeyou’re craving some good gator meat.

You can also grill or just blacken the gator if you are trying toeat healthier or do not want to deal with the mess sometimesassociated with frying
