THE CIRCUIT RIDER
Vol. 15, No. 10
October 2015
FROM THE PASTOR
“I have a dream.” It is many years now since
Marn Luther King, Jr., stood at the Washington Monument and
delivered those words, but they will never be forgo!en.
Whenever someone says, “I have a dream,” the world waits and
listens.
As Charge Conference approaches and we go about the work of
dreaming big for Chamberlayne Heights, it will be important to
remember the dreams that grew and shaped this place.
We will also be looking to the year ahead and beyond. It is a
good me to ask, “Just what are our dreams?” What shape are
our dreams taking? Hints of the answer to this queson may be
found in the reports and presentaons offered.
As we begin to dream big, I want us to connue to ask ourselves,
“Would Jesus be pleased with these plans?” Is there enough
here to tax our talents and to stretch us both as individuals and
as a congregaon? Are they the dreams of a group
commi!ed to love of neighbor?

(From the Pastor connued)
The next step is to pray around these dreams with the focus being
on our acons because every good dream issues an acon. What
are we willing to risk for these dreams? Call to mind the biblical
story of Jacob’s Ladder. Jacob thought he had escaped from God but
the dream forced him to see that God was everywhere. On that
basis Jacob built an alter, returned home, made amends and
changed his ways. Following a dream can be costly, but it can also
be magnec.
It is a long way from the dream to the task of helping it to come true,
but this is the way God has chosen for us as children of God to live—
from dream to acon and from acon to accomplishment.
I connue to be honored to be on this journey with you.
Together in service,
Pastor Linda

OCTOBER SENIOR CONNECTION MEETING TO
EXPLORE THEATER BY, ABOUT AND FOR SENIORS
We hope you will join us October 13, 2015 for a very entertaining program
presented by representatives of Bifocals at CAT, an outreach theater program
designed for senior audiences in the greater Richmond area.
Formerly called The Bifocals Theater Project and associated with Virginia
Repertory Theatre, Bifocals casts senior actors in short theatrical productions
which tour senior centers in an effort to reach patrons who might not be able
to attend a performance at a theater. You may remember several
Christmases ago, we enjoyed a performance of one of their productions for
our December program when we were all encouraged to wear outrageous
hats!
In addition to touring, an evening and a matinee performance will be held at
the Northern Henrico Civic Association building at 319 N. Wilkinson Rd., just
minutes from our church. Information about the four plays planned for the
current season can be found on the CAT Theatre website at
www.cattheatre.com.
Please plan to come and meet some of the delightful people involved in this
exciting venture. They will join us for a covered dish luncheon at noon, and
then present their program at 1 pm. Let’s all bring a friend, an extra food
offering for the expected large number of program participants and have a
large and welcoming audience for Bifocals at CAT.
Your support is needed to make our

Malawi, Africa HELP IS NEEDED!
This long narrow country on the southeastern coast of the African connent is the
home for our own Rebecca Long who is serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Becca is
teaching at the Chulu Community Day Secondary School where she teaches classes in
biology, history, and Life Skills.
With supplies for her students in very limited supply, we are reaching out to her church
family to solicit donaons of certain types of materials that will enhance her ability to
teach these students.
Our collecon will run for the month of October, ending on Sunday, October 25, aPer
which me we plan on shipping a box or two of supplies to her. Postage for packages by
mail is very high, so you may elect to contribute to the postage rather than purchasing
needed supplies. Please use a church envelope for this type of contribuon, marked
“Postage for Malawi”.
A collecon area will be set up in the narthex for your contribuons. As you can see,
some of these items are the same ones that our local students use every day, but are
not available to her students!! Here are suggested items that Becca says she needs:
Assorted color markers Sharpie markers Crayons
Hand sanizer Pens (blue or black) Glue scks
Masking tape
