ldquoEach small task of everyday life is part of the total harmony of the universerdquo
Life is not always full of excitement and many times we may feel as though our day-to-day actions really donrsquot matter We may be a banker counting out cash for a client a nurse tending to a nursing home resident a garbage man emptying numerous barrels of trash the list goes on Sometimes our daily life can become monotonous and seem worthless To God who sees the interconnectedness of the universe our actions no matter how small have a part to play in the harmony of the universe No matter how trivial they may seem our actions determine how the universe is at any given moment and cannot be taken back The accumulation of many different actions made by many different creatures constitutes history In turn history often influences the decisions we make in the present and the future For example we may decide to take a different route to work and later hear that there was a bad accident that occurred on our normal route or that compliment we gave a stranger may have just made his or her day We have no idea the ripple effect our actions may create Thus let us try our best to act out of love in every instance St Therese was a saint of simplicity and always made an effort to act out of love and simplicity even in the most trivial of actions If you would like to learn more about her life please visit wwwewtncomsaintsholysaintsTstthereseoflisieuxasp Amanda Gronemeyer OLL Outreach Coordinator

The Lake Church Book Study group will begin discussing a new book A Hole in the Gospel at 900 am on Thursday Oct 17 at Pat Useldingrsquos house Allow yourself to be challenged by Richard Stearns leader of World Vision Inc ldquoIs our faith just about going to church studying the Bible and avoiding the most serious sins―or does God expect more Have we embraced the whole gospel or a gospel with a hole in it Ten years ago Rich Stearns came face-to-face with that question as he sat in a mud hut in Rakai Uganda listening to the heartbreaking story of an orphaned child Stearnsrsquo journey there took much more than a long flight to Africa It took answering Godrsquos call on his life a call that tore him out of his corner office at one of Americarsquos most prestigious corporations - to walk with the poorest of the poor in our world The Hole in Our Gospel is the compelling true story of a corporate CEO who set aside worldly success for something far more significant and discovered the full power of the gospel of Jesus Christ to change his own life He uses his journey to demonstrate how the gospel―the whole gospel―was always meant to be a world changing social revolution a revolution that begins with usrdquo (from Amazoncom) If you cannot join the group you can purchase a book and read it at home Please contact Deb Hamm to order a book at just $10

Scriptures Ez 1825-28 Phil 21-11 Matt 2128-32 Today we hear the hymn in Philippians about Christ
Jesus emptying himself of his divinity to become our Savior How appropriate that we read this Scripture passage as we begin the month that we remind ourselves in a special way of the dignity of all human life During October we celebrate Right to Life month and we are reminded that Jesus calls us to love each other with agape lovehellipa love that mirrors the incredible love of Christ Jesushellipa love that puts God and othersrsquo needs first in our lifehelliphellipa love that calls us to protect all human life (from conception to natural death)hellipa love that reminds us not to judge othershellipa love that ndash lived well ndash helps others discover Christ in their lives in poignant tangible ways
This passage also reminds me of a retreat Mass I once attended After the consecration the priest held up the Eucharist and said ldquoSee who you are Become what you eatrdquo That was a powerful statement If we could all remember that we are all called to behellipand becomehellipthe Body of Christ what a difference our parishes communities and world would be
Todayrsquos second reading also reminds me that we are called to imitate Christrsquos love and humility in every relationship we have That is definitely easier said than done It seems an impossible task to completely duplicate Christ in this manner but I am reminded that if I can continue to move ever closer to that kind of agape love all my relationships will be stronger and I will be a better human being and a much more genuine disciple of Christ If we could all live our lives filled with agape love we wouldnrsquot need to celebrate a Right to Life month to remind ourselves and others of the dignity of all human life Our lives would be shining examples of that reality
This is Christrsquos call to all of us to love others with deep agape love to make God and other people priorities in our lives to be generous with our forgiveness to humble ourselves to love others deeply enough that we risk great painhellipeven to the point of death That is quite a call for us to live into realityhellipand we need the support of one another to have any chance of succeeding This October let us commit ourselves anew to recognize the dignity of every human life from the unborn babies uncertain of their own birth to the frail elderly near the end of their human lives and everyone in between
