October Health Emphasis
“…a time to keep and a time to throw away.” Ecclesiastes 3:6 NIV
Most everyone at some point has medication in their cupboard that they no longer take or which is expired. Proper disposal is important to ensure that no
one takes the medication unintentionally or illegally and to protect the environment.
One way is to take the medication out of its original container and mix with a
substance like kitty litter, coffee grounds, or other household product that will make
it undesirable to anyone or thing that might go through garbage. Lastly, check your community for a drug ‘take-back’
program that centrally gathers medication for disposal. These methods will prevent
our water supply from being contaminated and our children or pets from ingesting the
medication.

Our Deacons have just begun a new year of ministry in October. Following the election in September we welcome twelve new Deacons as servant leaders in our church. With the new group of Deacons we also express our gratitude to those who have served faithfully over the last three years. i am grateful for the contributions of our Deacons who have just rotated off from
active service: Wes Blake, Charles Carter, John Dickson, Tom Houser, James Keith, Mike Kirk, Ed Perkins, E.C. richardson, ray Swaim, Drayton Talley, Eustis Walker, and Lisa Wilson. They have been wonderful Deacons and i hope that you will join me in expressing thanks for their service.
With the beginning of a new year, we also have new Deacon officers. During this past year we have enjoyed the most capable leadership of Paul Allison as our Chair and E. C. richardson as our Vice-Chair. Bob Broadway, greg Frady and Deloris Funderburk served as Secretary. Last week the Deacons elected Larry Moore to be the new Chair and Myrna Boyd to be the Vice-Chair. Bill Lunsford will be the Secretary. i have greatly enjoyed serving with the officers from last year and i am looking forward to a wonderful year ahead with Larry, Myrna and Bill.
We have a big year ahead of us as a church. Deacons will play an important role as we minister to people each day and plan for ministry in the future. i will enjoy making the journey forward with these folks that the church has set apart for Deacon service.
