Another Sunday God has added into our lives to reflect how we have been appreciative to all the good and bad things that happen in our lives. In good and bad times, we need to give thanks to God. The act of giving thanks is grateful acknowledgement of benefits or favors, especially to God. Psalm 103:2 says, “Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he has done for me.” Let us think of the Samaritan leper who, along with the others, cries out to Jesus for pity. On their way to show themselves to the priests in accordance with the law, the lepers are cured. Only the Samaritan returns to give thanks to God. In our different situations, how many times have we behaved like the rest of the nine lepers? A deeper healing has taken place; the Samaritan has developed a living faith for true healing. Yet, without his leprosy he might never have had a reason to cry out to Jesus. He might have continued to lead an average life. But his cross (leprosy) became an opportunity for true healing. My dear brothers and sisters, today we celebrate the 28th Sunday in ordinary time. Another
Sunday God has added into our lives to reflect how we have been appreciative to all the
good and bad things that happen in our lives. In good and bad times, we need to give
thanks to God. The act of giving thanks is grateful acknowledgement of benefits or favors,
especially to God. Psalm 103:2 says, “Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget
the good things he has done for me.”
Let us think of the Samaritan leper who, along with the others, cries out to Jesus for pity.
On their way to show themselves to the priests in accordance with the law, the lepers are
cured. Only the Samaritan returns to give thanks to God. In our different situations, how
many times have we behaved like the rest of the nine lepers? A deeper healing has taken
place; the Samaritan has developed a living faith for true healing. Yet, without his leprosy
he might never have had a reason to cry out to Jesus. He might have continued to lead an
average life. But his cross (leprosy) became an opportunity for true healing. He seized the
moment when Jesus passed to ask for his help, and returned to give thanks.

Otro domingo Dios ha añadido a nuestras vidas para reflejar cómo hemos apreciado todas
las cosas buenas y malas que suceden en nuestras vidas. En los buenos y malos momentos,

(Continúado de la página 1) En nuestra primera lectura, la historia de Naamán debería alentarnos y
motivarnos a estar agradecidos con Dios en nuestra vida personal, familiar
y comunitaria. Debemos notar que Naamán era un extranjero, no un
miembro del pueblo elegido de Dios.
Este extranjero recibió la salvación y estaba muy agradecido. Se
comprometió a adorar al Dios de Israel a partir de ese momento. Naamán
dijo: "Por favor, acepte un regalo de su sirviente". Usted y yo podríamos
preguntar qué estamos haciendo para mostrar gratitud por las maravillas
que Dios ha hecho en nuestras vidas. Nos dijeron que había muchos
leprosos en Israel durante el tiempo del profeta Eliseo, sin embargo,
ninguno de ellos fue limpiado, sino solo Naamán el sirio. Esto nos lleva
de vuelta a nuestro Salmo hoy: "El Señor ha revelado a las naciones su
poder salvador". (Salmo 98) Este episodio nos enseña que la voluntad
salvífica de Dios es universal.
En nuestra segunda lectura, San Pablo escribiendo a Timoteo, ha sufrido

a través de su quebrantamiento. Pablo aprende a amar al Señor cada vez
más a medida que experimenta mayores dificultades.
Así es con nosotros. Comenzamos preguntando: “¿Por qué o a quién estás
agradecido esta mañana?" La lista está incompleta si no damos gracias por
nuestras cruces y cargas. ¿Por qué debemos dar gracias por nuestras
cruces y cargas? Porque la gracia de Dios está en el trabajo lista para
sanarnos de una manera que nunca imaginamos y empoderarnos para
convertirnos en lo que él ha querido que seamos.
Última pregunta para reflexionar sobre este domingo ... ¿Somos como los
nueve leprosos que están curados pero no dan gracias? ¿O somos como
Naamán el sirio que le preguntó a Eliseo: “Por favor, acepte un regalo de
su sirviente.” ¿Agradecemos esta mañana por cosas y personas grandes y
pequeñas en la vida? ¿Damos gracias por nuestras cruces y cargas? Al
hacerlo, sabemos que escucharemos la palabra de Jesús: “Levántate y
sigue tu camino; tu fe ha sido tu salvación.”
Mis queridos hermanos y hermanas, que cada uno de nosotros decida que
todos los días, no nos levantaremos por la mañana o nos iremos a dormir
sin haber encontrado una bendición que hayamos recibido de Dios ese
mismo día. Y lo agradeceremos con todo nuestro corazón.

This foreigner received salvation and was very grateful. He
pledged to worship the God of Israel from that moment on.
Naaman said, “Please accept a gift from your servant.” You
and I could ask what are we doing to show gratitude for the
wonders God has done in our lives? We were told that there
were many lepers in Israel during the time of Elisha the
prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed, but only
Naaman the Syrian. This brings us back to our Psalm
today— “The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving
power.” (Psalm 98) This episode teaches us that God’s
salvific will is universal.
In our second reading, St. Paul writing to Timothy, has
suffered for the sake of the gospel—even being chained like
a criminal. But the word is not chained. St. Paul was
brought low and blinded before he came to see the way to
glory. Let us not forget that both Naaman and Paul are what
they are because of God’s healing grace working through
their brokenness. Paul learns to love the Lord more and
more as he experiences greater hardship.
So it is with us. We begin by asking, “ For what or to whom
are you thankful this morning?” The list is incomplete if we
do not give thanks for our crosses and burdens. Why should
we give thanks for our crosses and burdens? Because God’s
grace is at work ready to heal us in ways we never imagined
and empower us to become what he has meant us to be.
Last question to reflect on this Sunday… Are we like the
nine lepers who are healed but do not give thanks? Or are
we like Naaman the Syrian who asked Elisha, “Please
accept a gift from your servant.” Do we give thanks this
morning for things and people great and small in life? Do
we give thanks for our crosses and burdens? In so doing,
we know we shall hear the word of Jesus: “Stand up and go
your way; your faith has been your salvation.”
My dear brothers and sisters, let each one of us decide that
every day, we will not wake up in the morning or go to
sleep without having found one blessing we have received
from God that very day. And we will thank Him for it with
our whole heart.
