October 2, 2016 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time `Lord, increase our Faith`! In today's Gospel we hear Jesus teaching about faith and service to God. There are two related teachings that Jesus offers to his disciples when they cry out for an increase in faith. The first is the familiar reminder that faith, even just a little, will enable the followers of Jesus to do wondrous things. But this uplifting and inspiring teaching is quickly followed by the second teaching, a caution about knowing one's place in God's plans. The disciples of Jesus are to understand themselves as servants to God and his plans. Even when God works wonders through us, with our mustard seed-sized faith, we must not seek praise. Our participation in God's plans is God's grace to us—nothing more, nothing less. When we are graced enough to cooperate with God, the work we do is nothing more than our obligation to God as faithful stewards. And yet, our faith enables us to believe that what we have offered in service to God, as his servants, can be made to produce a hundredfold.

Feast Day of St. Wilfrid- October 12 St. Wilfrid was an outstanding
personage of his day, extremely capable and possessed of unbounded courage, remaining firm in his convictions despite running afoul of civil and ecclesiastical authorities. He helped bring the discipline to the English Church into line with that of Rome. He was also a dedicated pastor and a zealous and skilled missionary; St. Wilfrid lived ostentatiously, and travelled with a large retinue. He ruled a large number of monasteries, and claimed to be the first Englishman to introduce the Rule of Saint Benedict into English monasteries. Some modern historians see him mainly as a champion of Roman customs against the customs of the British and Irish churches, others as an advocate for monasticism

Oct. 7- Feast of Our Lady of Rosary

Planning to be a Catholic Teacher?
It is critical for you to know that to be hired to teach in any Catholic
school board in Ontario, as part of your application for employment
there must have a letter of reference from your pastor. If you (or if
your adult child) is planning to apply to teach in a Catholic school, it
is highly recommended you contact the pastor before Thanksgiving.
Please plan to have a conversation with your pastor early in the
process and you will avoid disappointment and stress at the time
when applications are to be submitted.

On the lighter side......
The Fatted Calf
The Sunday School teacher, was telling his class the story of the Prodigal Son. Wishing to emphasize the resentful attitude of the elder brother, he laid stress on this part of the parable. After describing the rejoicing of the household over the return of the wayward son, Dexter spoke of one who, in the midst of the festivities, failed to share in the jubilant spirit of the occasion. "Can anybody in the class," he asked, "tell me who this was?"
Nine year old girl Anna had been listening sympathetically to the story. She waved her hand in the air. "I know!" she said beamingly. "It was the fatted calf."
