Life is a wonderful piece of artwork created and given by god. I feel very sorry for those who end their life by committing suicide. What right they have to do so ?. Do they own their birth and death. My heart burns when I read that a poor farmer, a student, a lover, a lonely man, a family woman, an old man or a famous personality including actors end their life.

They could withstand the struggle in their mind by sharing their feelings or frustration with others. Keep your mind and heart free by ventilating your

concerns or views with your friends and neighbours.

The societal living and get-together helps us beat the loneliness and create the feeling of brotherhood and friendliness. This also helps us broaden our thought process and think of ways to come out of the struggle.

Every Suicider thinks that, it is as if every door is closed in life and death is the ultimate which could relieve them from the situation. Everything is unknown post the act of suicide. Then why indulge in it rather than swim through the problem which is known and familiar. We do have an alternate route to come out of the problems and many a times solution is very nearer to us.. We have to seek that with sincerity and faith. .

It is shocking that in India suicides keep increasing despite being so much advanced spiritually. Meditation and calmness of mind and body has been practised and proven for centuries by our

forefathers to overcome this “mentally blanked” situation called Suicidal thoughts.

Government should set up counselling centres to avoid these eventualities. Let us talk, as a responsible society, to those loners and the poor debt ridden farmers and give our healing touch in whatever way we can. A strong will should be developed in those weaker minds to overcome their current, passing phase of difficulty and to avoid this momentary foolish act called Suicide. They should be taught that it is a highly stupid and an act of cowardice to end life, which is not the end to their problems or difficulty.

“Punarapi Maranam, Punarapi jananam” of Adi-sankara in Bhaja Govindam, should be clearly understood by those attempting to suicide and that the problems will continue even after their death, much more severely and forcefully.

A strong mind which understand this, will never think of Suicide, as it is equivalent to throwing one’s precious treasures into the ocean.

Around 13 crore Indians suffer from sort of mental illness – depression, anxiety, etc. According to Sec 309 of Indian Penal Code, the act of committing suicide was penalized with one year imprisonment and fine.

The New Mental Health Care Bill 2012, that is expected to be tabled in the winter session of Parliament aims to decriminalize suicide bid.

The bill says, “any person who has attempted to commit suicide shall be examined by a psychiatrist before any criminal investigations take place. If the psychiatrist certifies that the person has a mental illness, no complaint shall be entertained against the person.”

FLYING CARPET

(An English version of Tamil Drama “ParakkumKambalam” written by Vaanoli Anna KalaimamaniKoothapiran.)

Next day early morning itself, all the friends assembled at the Terrace of Raja’s house. Devi, Shankar and Selvi stood in one side and Raja and his friends stood in the other side.

Devi loudly said “All of you listen carefully, whatever I am telling you”. Devi explained the entire story of carpet, ring and about Tingu.

“I remember to have read this story somewhere” In which story this is coming? Your narration of the story was very nice. Also, it looks like you are fooling us” criticized Raja and his friends.

Devi got wild and shouted at them “Nobody is asking you to believe”. Will you believe after seeing by your own eyes”.

“Show that first, rather than talking”, said Raja

After calling Tingu, it came with a noise – Ting…Ting…Ting, “Yes I am here”, said Tingu.

“Who is this Tingu, I am not able to see him”, screamed Raja.

“Selvi, please spread the carpet on the ground”, said Devi.

“First all of you sit on the carpet, then if we instruct, the carpet will fly” explained, Devi, one more time.

“Will this carpet on the ground fly” questioned, Raja.

Raja could not tolerate the situation. He did not want Devi, Selvi and Shankar to take the credit of this magic carpet. He suddenly snatched the ring from Devi and shouted that “this carpet and ring is mine and I have the full right to use it”.

He added “magic carpet, you are my slave, now you fly, come afterwards”

The carpet flew in the sky and became a small particle up in the sky.

Devi started shouting that carpet is flying without any one on it. Raja too realized and shouted.

Then Tingu said that Carpet cannot come down as there is no one sitting on it for ordering to come down.

Tingu added , “ Raja, due to your jealous nature, you wanted the carpet and me as your slaves. You ordered the carpet to fly and it did as per your instruction. You have lost a precious item. At least now you be a good brother of Devi. Let this incident change you” and he disappeared.

After six months, one day Devi found the ring in one corner of her Almirah. She called Tingu. Raja and his friends, Shankar and Selvi, every one assembled and played with Tingu for quite sometime. Tingu started crying and explained that he had never been without its friend Flying Carpet. Tingu requested them to throw the ring deep in the water so that nobody can use it any more. All of them agreed to do so and went to the middle of the sea and threw the ring.

With heavy heart, all of them returned, but the love for Tingu remained forever in every one’s heart.

They all realized that “LOVE IS THE ONLY THING IN THIS WORLD TO PRACTICE, IF WE WISH TO LIVE”

One should have a close look at the following aspects when opting for a home loan, as these could convert into 0.10 % to 0.25%, in interest rate terms.

EMI to start after possession of the property

No prepayment charges No processing fee No title verification or legal fee Interest calculated on reducing balance

method First three to five years fixed rate of

interest and then flexible rate of interest (or) partly fixed and partly floating for the loan amount

Home Insurance for the value of the property

Sweep-in a/c facility (This means that the moneys available in the Savings a/c is swept into the home loan a/c automatically. This will help those salaried borrowers to reduce the effective rate of interest as well have the security of using the funds whenever required)

As a prospective buyer of a house or an apartment, our next step is to look for a home loan product which suits our income level and the repayment capability.

It is a simple mathematics of the EMI outflow for an individual. If a person has a cash surplus of Rs.50,000/- to pay his EMI ( Equated Monthly Instalment), he could easily borrow Rs.40 lacs. With a margin of 20% , the property worth Rs.50 lacs is well within the reach and affordable.

Recently RBI has reduced its CRR (Capital Reserve Ratio) which has made the banks and financial institutions reduce the rate of interest for home loans. It is pegged at 10% or 10.25%. Home loans , being the cheaper source of moneys borrowed , is advisable to go for longer period of time, say 15 to 25 years term.

Home Loans should be taken from a leading bank or financial institution whose cost of capital is lower than other players in the market. This will ensure that flexible rate of interest opted do not cost too high a rate than the market rate. (say, if the market rate is trending at 11%, the flexi rate also should be around that. In some cases, the rate goes as high as 14%. )

Tax Planning Opportunities

For Home Loans – Income Tax Deduction is available for the Principal and Interest separately.

Every borrower should get a certificate for Principal and Interest repayment made to the Bank / Financial Institution during the period from April to March, every year and submit the same to his employer to consider for tax deduction.

Interest paid during pre-construction period is available as deduction over five equal annual instalments from the year of completion of the property and added to the current year interest repayment.

Self Occupied Property : This means that you are going to stay in the house. In this case, your entitlement will be :

Principal repayment = Rs.100,000 Interest repayment = Actual amount paid – Rs.250,000 restricted to a maximum of Rs.150,000 Total Deduction available = Rs.250,000, This is available for one house only. If you own two houses, you will be entitled for one house only and the other is deemed to be let-out. One has to stay in a rental premises due to his employment or business requirement and keep the property under lock and key, then he can claim HRA deduction as well as housing loan deduction.

Let-out Property : This means that you don’t stay but let-out for rent, then you will be entitled to :

Principal Repayment = Rs.100000 Interest Repayment = Rs.250000 - Actual amount paid ( not restricted to Rs.150,000) Total Deduction available Rs.350000
