October 2013 Greetings from the President! The skating season is in full swing now. It's time to thank all those who helped with Skate St. Moritz--from the referee to the runners, to the accountants, to those who brought food -- and everyone who gave an hour or several days. I know that your time is valuable. I know that every skater who participated at Skate St. Moritz thanks you, and knows that the competition could not have taken place without the help of everyone who volunteered. Time goes by quickly. The Pacific Coast sectional championships are upon us in a few short weeks, and once again your valuable time or asset is greatly needed. We are currently looking for donations, sponsors and vendors who would like to participate in the competition. If you know of anyone who would like to participate on a sponsorship level please contact me at your earliest convenience via email. Once again you will be getting emails and calls from the committee chairs asking for your time. Without your support we wouldn't be able to bring this exciting competition back to Northern California. So when you get the call before you say no, think twice and help us find a place where you can volunteer. Thanks again and Happy Skating!!! Breaking News!

Thank you, volunteers!

Thanks to so many of you who volunteered your time to make Skate St. Moritz the best skate competition in the Bay Area. There was greatfood and friendly hosts, smiling faces at the registration tables, and quick results from the judges and accountants. The runners ran, theice monitors monitored, music was played and skaters announced. I am sure there was much more that I am not aware of, but hats off to allof you. Setting up for the event and taking down the furniture and platforms in a timely manner is no small feat, but thanks to many volunteersand other help, the job was done quickly and efficiently.

A special thanks from the volunteer committee to Kathy Saunders who championed the use of Signup Genius. We had a lot of positivefeedback on the use of this free tool, and some of you said you were going to use it for your other activities. Super Job, Kathy.

Pacific Coast Sectionals will be here soon, so please let us know if you are willing to help. Remember, you don’t have to be a skater tovolunteer. Anyone can volunteer for a skating competition - skaters, parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, or friends. Volunteers arewhat make competitions successful, and it is also a good way to meet other members and have a good time while helping out.

Thanks again!

Congratulations to Lisa Erle!

Congratulations to Lisa Erle, recipient of the 2013 George Yonekura Volunteer of the Year award.

Lisa has been a long-time member of St. Moritz ISC. She had been a skater for many years, passing the junior figure and free skate tests.Lisa has served on the SMISC board many years as well, serving our club on her 6th term. Lisa is also a US Figure Skating National Judgeand Referee, judging various competitions for many years.

Lisa works part time at the Dublin ice rink, and is a fan of both the Giants and the 49ers. Lisa like the movies and makes it a point tosee every Oscar nominated film prior to the academy awards broadcast, having missed only two of them over the last 20 yrs!

The award is named after George Yonekura who was a past president for our club as well as for USFSA George was also judge and refereefor our sport. To honor his memory, the St. Moritz Ice Skating Club created the George Yonekura Volunteer Award, which is presentedannually at Skate St. Moritz to a club member who exemplifies his spirit of volunteerism within our sport.
