IMPORTANT REMINDERS
OCT OBER
Attendance - Please remember to phone in your child’s absence/late arrival to the office. Even when busses are
cancelled and schools are open, a phone call to the school must be made to ensure that every student is accounted
for. For your convenience, you may leave a voicemail any time on the school’s general mailbox or for
Mrs. Anderson at extension 39311. If you prefer to email please use [email protected] or
Signing students in and out of school— All students must sign out at the office when being picked up early from
school and sign in when dropped off late, this pertains to the entire school day hours (8:25—3:00). Please
remember that we are only ensuring the safety of all our students.
After school arrangements must be arranged at home and a note from both parents must be given to your child’s
teacher as the school requires this in writing. You may also write this in your child’s agenda.
BUSSED STUDENTS - Niagara Student Transportation cannot, under any circumstances, allow for special pick
ups or drop offs, or bus switches due to their safety policies. Your child must be dropped off at their assigned drop
off location. If you require your child’s drop off to change, please contact the school asap as there is a 2-3 day wait
period. Please note that each student may have only one drop off and one pick up address. In addition, if your
child is bussed but you wish for them to walk home on certain days, please write this in your child’s agenda for
their teacher to see.
Pizza days are every Tuesday and Friday, milk is available everyday during the 2nd nutrition break. A sheet of 20
pizza tickets can be purchased for $20 and a sheet of 25 milk tickets can also be purchased for $20, both in the
office between 8-4. Please note that kindergarten milk and pizza will be pre-ordered monthly rather then using the
ticket system.
Emergency contacts and student information— If you have any changes regarding your child’s emergency
contacts, phone numbers, change in drop off or pick up location for bussing etc. please send these changes in
writing to the office as it is crucial that our records are accurate and up to date in order for the office to be able to
contact you in case of an emergency. In addition, if you have a sitter, please consider adding them to your child’s
emergency contacts. Please note that we cannot release students to someone that is not an emergency contact
unless a note is sent to the homeroom teacher.
Parking lot - When entering and leaving the school from the parking lot by the double gym doors, we are asking
all parents and students to please use the safe walk way that is set up for construction purposes. This includes
drop off and pick up times.
Is your child bussed? Have you subscribed to NSTS? Please see page 4 for details.
JUNIOR SOCCER
JUNIOR BOYS - The Junior boys soccer team played in a tournament in Sept. and managed to win
it al in a nail biter against Lakeview School. It was Scooter Haight that scored in a last minute penalty shot to give us the win. Overall the boys scored over 25 goals with only two goals against. Counted in the highlights must be the boys enthusiasm and their sportsmanship....Great job Titans!
JUNIOR GIRLS - Junior Girls Soccer Success! Bend it Like . . .
On Monday, September 24th, our Twenty Valley junior Titans showed great grit and surprising skill in a soccer tournament at Smith Public School. It was fun. That’s why we played the game. It was entertaining, and that’s why a fleet of fans followed the game from the sideline. Thanks so much to parents, grandparents, and friends who cheered us on. A special thank-you to Mrs. Sue O'Brien for her encouragement, running practices, and her overall awesome coaching ability! Mrs. Chapman was a sensational coach on the day of the tournament as well.
Anything is possible during a soccer match and anything can happen. And, happen, it did! First, we squared off against Smith School. Some players towered over us, but our legs didn’t disappear from under us. We started off strong with a win and just kept gaining good momentum. The girls gave 100 %. Our keeper, Kim Kulawic showed nerves of steel and played really well. WOW!
We lost our final match against Nelles Public School but everyone was impressed by the girls' perseverance and winning attitude! I think that the defeat was a victory in itself. Soccer is not just about scoring goals or winning matches, it’s about sweat ‘n smiles, giving it your all to push past obstacles, and showing your potential. I couldn’t believe the way that our girls were popping the ball forward and into the other end. At the final whistle, our talented team were positively pooped AND positive. Did I say positive?
Thanks so much to the people who cheered us on and transported a crew of girls to and from Smith Public School. It was a great experience! The following girls represented Twenty Valley Public School admirably! Jada B., Chloe B., Kamryn B., Courtney B., Evalina C., Alex B.-D., Kirsten J., Elise K., Kim K., Caitie M., Izzy M., Kylie R., Kylie R, Erin S., Sydney S., and Kaelin S. Good job girls! You were all incredible ambassadors of Twenty Valley Public School! Well done!

INTERMEDIATE BOYS - Congratulations Twenty Valley Intermediate
Boys' Soccer Team.
On Monday, September 29th the Intermediate boys traveled to Smith School in Grimsby for a one day tournament. There were 11 teams entered in the boys' division and the competition was very challenging. the boys' worked very well together and successfully made it through the round robin portion of the tournament with a 3 and 0 record. As fate would have it we were matched up against Smith School for a second time in the playoff portion of the tournament. Unfortunately, Smith got off to a fantastic start and built a quick 2 goal lead. The boys rallied and spent most of the rest of the game in their end but just couldn't get the ball past the unfriendly posts and crossbar. In the end the boys lost 3 to 1. A fantastic day was had by all and our Twenty Valley parent fan support was exciting to see!
A big thanks to all our drivers and a 'Well Done' to all the boys for the sportsmanship shown throughout the day!!
Mr. Koop
INTERMEDIATE GIRLS - The intermediate girls soccer team played a very exciting and successful
soccer tournament on Monday, September 29th at smith school. They placed first in their pool, winning both games 2-0, followed by a victory in the semi-finals. In the end, they faced Smith school in the championship game and lost a close game with a score of 1-0. I am very proud of all the players and impressed with their ongoing encouragement and positive sportsmanship throughout the day! Congratulation girls! Mrs. Sotola

GLEE CLUB This is a new club which started a few weeks ago. The Glee club offers a place for students to come and use their musical talents to work on songs as a group, with the opportunity to perform them for various occasions throughout the school year. Students have been practicing hard every Monday at the after school rehearsals. Keep an eye or ear out for future performances. They sound awesome!
ALL STAR READING PROGRAM
Once again we are very excited to be offering the “All Star Reading Program” at Twenty Valley
Public School!
GOALS OF THE PROGRAM
This program is designed to help readers in the primary division who need a little more
one-on-one support as they strive to become better, successful and more confident readers.
The program depends upon parent volunteers who take on the important role of becoming a
reading coach. The school will provide the parent volunteers an opportunity to learn more about
the program and an introduction to the different strategies that classroom teachers use. An in
-service will be offered to all the volunteers. This in-service will explain how the program
works. (The wonderful thing about the program is that once you have learned the strategies you can also use these strategies to help
your own child/children at home!)
