God’s Work- Our Hands - Thank You! Below is a list of the projects people from Our Saviour’s were involved with for our 2nd annual “God’s Work- Our Hands” Sunday on September 7th. Additional projects were done by members of Zion Lutheran Church. Many hours of volunteer labor were contributed, as well as food and supplies. Thank you so much for being such a positive witness to God and our church! · Made thank you cards and delivered lunch for Firefighters · Drive Thru Prayer/Lemonade · Deck removal/yard cleanup for a family. · Sorted items for donations and trash for OSLC family · Assembled kits of hygiene supplies for the homeless in SLC · Cleaned/organized at Family Promise Day Center · Blankets made for children who are seriously ill, traumatized or in need of a gift of comfort · Garden Harvest · Provided a meal and cleaned at the Fisher House for families of Veterans · Jordan River Parkway clean-up · Salt Lake Mission Meal We also delivered in kind donations to the Malileh Free Clinic, Lutheran Social Services of Utah, and Crossroads Urban Center. Financial donations were also received to help cover costs and for specific organizations. Well done everyone!

CROP HUNGER WALK Sept. 14, 2014 - Wow! Thanks to 9 churches and 3 organizations, 90 walkers, Salt Lake Valley raised a grand total of $10,324.00! $5383 in checks, $726 in cash, $90 in the sale of Crop T-shirts - total $6,199 collected at the park, plus $4,125 donated online. OSLC contributed over $700 of that amount. Good Job! We also had great publicity. We were on Fox news - twice - on Sept. 14, on KSL online news, and in the Deseret Newspaper on Monday. Having the walk at Liberty Park on a Sunday afternoon was a good choice. Church World Service will receive 75% of the money raised and 25% stays locally for Family Promise and Crossroads Urban Center. Thank you to OSLC team of 8 walkers: Dayle Young, Recruiter; Gordon Young, Marion Lennberg, Naomi Sattelberg, Cheryl Leiferman, Chuck Leiferman, Phil Anderson and Billie Anderson. Our Crop Walk committee, because of our success, decided to do the walk next year at Liberty Park, in September and on a Sunday!

Dear OSLC Scholarship Committee and Congregation,

The scholarship gift from OSLC was such a wonderful blessing to receive. I cannot express my gratitude to both the committee

and the congregation enough. I pray that I can make my home congregation proud as I continue to serve Christ and His people

through my healthcare work. Thank you for making it possible.

God bless,

GET READY TO "SAIL AHEAD!" Our fourth annual "Consecration Sunday" is coming soon, Sunday, October 12th! As this is the Columbus Day weekend, we have chosen the theme "Sail Ahead!" Through your offerings and gifts of time and talent, Our Saviour's Lutheran can continue to "Sail Ahead" with its many ministries for the congregation and commu-nity. This year's guest speaker will be Kurt Kragthorpe, sports columnist for the Salt Lake Tribune and lay leader at Zion’s Lutheran Church. On that day we will have One Worship Service at 10:00am, followed by a lunch catered by Midvale Mining Company with an Italian theme. Reservations for the lunch will begin this Sunday. Everyone is invited as we set sail!

Rocky Mountain Synod – Madagascar Companion Synods – Update from Michael King ELCA has strong ties to the fast growing Lutheran Church in Madagascar (FLM) and, in particular, the Rocky Mountain Synod (RMS) is linked to 4 companion synods in northern Madagascar within the FLM. In 2013 a RMS delegation of 20 members, in which I represented Utah, visited all 4 companion synods as part of a process of Accompaniment in which we look for ways to work together in bringing the Good News to the Malagasy people. During our visit it became apparent one way RMS could assist our companion synods was to pro-vide low cost motorcycles (think motorized bicycles versus Harley Davidsons!) to pastors serving rural or bush congregations. For instance, in the newly created Sofia Synod there are now more than 50 congregations but only 15 pastors. So some pastors are serving 3 or more bush churches (see photo of a typical bush church) which are widely scattered in an area which has dirt roads and very little public transportation other than on the main highway. Motorcycles are known to be effective as a way of getting between bush parishes in all weathers - there is a rainy season in Madagascar which makes dirt roads unusable by 4 wheel vehicles. We have started to work with all 4 companion synods on purchasing and setting up an appropriate main-tenance program for what we hope, in time, will be a number of motorcycles for use by bush pastors. As the program progresses we will keep you up-dated on how we are accompanying our brothers and sisters in Madagascar as they bring the Good News to their remote communities. God’s Peace Michael King, Mount Tabor Lutheran Church
