Minister Musings
How often do you hear –or say –my
goodness how the time flies! It is au-
tumn already! Where did the summer
go?
Looking back, I had a wonderful sum-
mer. This year there was not the smoke
of last. Never did the weather hinder
the activities I had planned. It was a
good summer.
My break from work started with a
week long course: Wrecked: Sitting
with Job When Your World Falls Apart.
Each time you study anything you learn
more and this was a good course. I did
purchase the professor’s book: How to
Read Job by John H. Walton and Trem-
per Longman III, which follows his lec-
tures very well.
One thing that makes Summer School
at Regent College so interesting is the
people that attend. There were folks
from Europe, South and Central Ameri-
ca, Asia, Africa –and a few
from North America. The fel-
low that sat next to me was on
sabbatical from his ministry in
Switzerland. He was in Vancou-
ver for three months. His fami-
ly was with him –his wife and
three young sons, age 2, 6 and
8. The 8 year old was wanting to attend
Regent because school only lasted a
week! What a deal!
I stayed on for 5 more days to catch up
with friends and to take in some of my
favorites: Bard on the Beach, the Art’s
Club Theatre, Rain or Shine Ice Cream,
Vij’s and Ladner Market.
Once home I tended my wee patch of
creation and loved every minute of it.
The garden growth this year has been
exceptional –my zucchini plants have
never been so big! I tried new things –
lemon cucumbers, with success. I tried
old things –eggplant and Italian zucchi-
ni. If the weather holds I may have eat-
able results there too.
I worked and I rested. The rhythm of
creation: work and rest.
May the God of Creation be our guide
as we, God’s people gathered, live and
grow in faith and in love.
Rev. Pamela Scott

Elevator/lift Update!
A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone whom have donated to our Ele-
vator/lift! It has been very UPLIFTING!! As you can see we are
very close to our goal. Thank you just doesn’t seem to fully ex-
press our gratitude for all the amazing donations we have re-
ceived. The UCW kick off of $5000.00, members who have
matched that, those who given $2000.00 / $1000.00 , $100.00,
$25.00 and those who attended the Fall supper to raise $2149.00 towards this pro-
ject. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! We still have a little way to go but I
am very confident we will meet out goal.
The work on the elevator is progressing nicely, it has to be tested and we have found
out that we are required to have a telephone in the elevator so once all those things
have been met we will be GOING UP AND DOWN AGAIN!!
The Chart on the right shows the fundraising to October 6th, 2019: $20,509.00

“Meals to GO”
The Meals to Go program at SUC has had a very successful year and we thank every-
one who has ordered entrée, soup and / or dessert. Our next menu will be Ham &
Bean soup, Chicken & Broccoli Divan and Apple Crisp. Please watch for our order
form later in October with a cooking/delivery date of Nov 16th.
Is this program unfamiliar to you? A group of church members gather on a Satur-
day to prepare an entrée, soup, and dessert. Patrons pre-ordered from a select
menu the items and quantity they would like. The cooking group prepares, packag-
es the food, and delivers it that afternoon. All funds raised through this project are
to assist with the work of the church.

Day of Enrichment: Narrow Road Home and Creperie & Co
Several women of our congregation joined oth-ers from Chinook Winds Region in September at Okotoks United Church. We were privileged to hear an informa-tive and moving presentation of personal journeys, from the founder and three former addicts who lived and live at Narrow Road Home in High River. The founder de-scribed her surprising but persistent spiritual call to buy & live in a large home (before the flood in 2013) and then later (after the flood and its damage) to use the house to serve God in housing, counselling, faith, and healing with addicts. She had faith and also some experi-ence with trauma counselling. The Creperie & Co is a res-taurant where the house residents work along with other volunteers, to give back to the community, and to work and reintegrate into society at large. If you have a chance to stop by there, it is at 130 3 Ave SE and the phone number is 403-649-0030. For the hours, and any further information, go to the Narrow Road Home website and click on the Menu (3 horizontal lines) at the top left of the page. The residents in the home are currently all wom-en. The three former addicts told about arriving at Nar-row Road Home after several attempts and periods of coming clean, and then reverting to even worse addic-tions and lifestyles. They had nearly given up hope of recovery and health but they wanted to try one more time. Narrow Road Home's foundation is love and faith in Jesus Christ, Saviour and Redeemer. The women told us that they now see that Jesus was with them all through their lives even though they had not been aware of His presence. Now they are filled with gratitude for this. They have been able to feel much greater self es-teem and self acceptance. They can relate their journeys to some that are told in the Bible. The women all spoke of reconnecting with their families. The days at Narrow Road home are filled with worthwhile and healthy practices, including exercise, time in nature, prayer or meditation, individual counsel-ling, sharing circles, meal preparation, cooking, other chores, and more. Bible Study, if I recall correctly is open to others beyond Narrow Road residents, and is led by the founder's parents. The Bible's core stories of being in the wilderness; God with us always, even when feeling alone and abandoned; Jesus' life and teachings of love, forgiveness, inclusion, faith, and more; are medicine and strength for life's journey for all. It was a meaningful presentation that day at Okotoks UC! Submitted by Eileen M.
