Topic: Gas Well Deliquification
Presentation Description: Gas wells can become loaded with fluid and quit flowing. This fluid can be difficult to remove. We will discuss flowing tree design, pressure concepts, liquid loading, chokes, shut in problems, and water blocks. Completion topics include where to place the tubing tail or packer, and TCP versus wireline perforating. Troubleshooting gas wells can be tricky and it pays to have a good operator to experiment with low cost solutions before engineers run Nodal
Analysis and place the well on lift. Some low-cost solutions include extended shut ins, batch or continuous soaping, siphon strings, swabbing and surface compression. Ray Clanton (LinkedIn) is the owner of Petroleum Engineering Services LLC. He has over 34 years of Production, reservoir, and drilling experience for Getty, Texaco, BLM, Bechtel, Aera Energy and most recently, California Resources Corporation at the Elk Hills Field, CA. Ray has worked on conventional and unconventional reservoirs including deep high temperature, high pressure (HPHT) wells, low pressure gas sands, heavy oil, and the Monterey shale. His experience includes fracturing, high rate gravel packing for sand control, artificial lift design, diatomite steamflooding, CO2 and water injection, and shale acidizing using fiber optics and diverters (2006 meritorious Award for engineering innovation). Ray is a registered Professional engineer in California and Wyoming. He holds a BS in Petroleum engineering from the University of Wyoming, and an MBA from Cal State Bakersfield. Ray is a lecturer in production engineering at Cal State Bakersfield and has guest lectured at USC School of Petroleum Engineering.

A Message From The Chairman As we approach the end of the meeting year for the SJV Chapter of
API, I can say that we have had a great year. We have had great
attendance at our monthly meetings and all of our fund-raising
events. With your generous support we awarded $100,000 in
scholarships this year and had a lot of fun doing it. The golf
tournament and the Fall Fun Shoot were both sold out. Many
thanks go to the chairman of both events, Jim Roberts, and all of
the volunteers that make it work on the days of the events!
We are still in the event mode with the Annual Oil Baron’s Ball
coming up on November 2, 2019, and we are still accepting votes
for the Baron and Baroness until October 15. If you haven’t voted

new Baron and Baroness at the ball. If you haven’t yet bought your
tickets, you can do it here: 2019 Oil Baron's Ball - EnergyAPI - San
Joaquin Valley Chapter. There is a flyer with more information and there is also a list of nominees for
the Oil Baron and Baroness included later in the newsletter, so check it out. I look forward to seeing all
of you all dressed up for the annual party.
We have our regular monthly meeting coming up on September 15, 2019. This month we have Ray
Clanton in his new role as owner of Petroleum Engineering Services, LLC speaking about gas well
deliquification. He promises to make an informative and lively presentation. So make your
reservations to attend the October meeting here: https://www.apibakersfield.com/pay-online/api-
monthly-dinner-meeting/. This will be our last general meeting of the year, so come out and join us for
socializing, networking and learning.

2019 Fall Fun Shoot Was Another Success For API
The SJV Chapter of API pulled off another very successful Fall Fun Shoot! We had 300 shooters show
up at Five Dogs Shooting Range on Friday, October 4, 2019 for annual event, which is billed as the
largest shoot in the county. The day started at 6:00 AM with breakfast burritos courtesy of Howard
Supply Company. After the flag salute, the shooters ascended to the top of the hill for an 8:00 AM
start to the shoot. The weather was perfect but the shooting was challenging, with the high score
coming in at 87. The first team came off the hill right around noon, and soon, others began filtering
in for lunch.
Lunch was a group effort with Global Elastomeric, Valley Power Systems, Pro Tools, Muth Pump,
API, and Total Western all contributing. Alan White of Miocene Engineering provided some authen-
tic jambalaya, while Don Taft of Valley Power Systems cooked forty-five racks of ribs. The Pro Tools
gang handled the deep pit beef and Muth Pumps cooked the beans. Roger Putnam of Total Western
brought dozens of cookies for dessert, and we had plenty of beer, after the guns were put away, cour-
tesy of Joe Harrison at Coastline equipment.
We had loads of raffle prizes topped off with two nice guns from Liberty Lift, lots of prizes from Jay
Haney at SageRider West, and the three super raffle prizes thanks to Robin’s Envirovac, Pro Tool,
and the API Chapter. California Waterfowl Association did a great job with their auction and raised
$2,600 for the scholarship fund. Everybody got a team photo through the sponsorship of Key Energy
and Nalco Champion. Thank you to these folks and all of the sponsors that you can see on the banner
in the photos below.
Shannon Cook was the high shooter among the ladies and we had a tie for the men with Cooper Ger-
ecke and Kevin Newlen both shooting 87. They each receive a great looking belt buckle from Weath-
erford.
The highest scoring team was the Total Western team of Robert Rice, Jeff Reed, Dirk O’Rear, Dale
Humlin, and Mike Moon. The first place handicap team was the Robin’s Envirovac team of Dwayne
Biseiou, Gerald Alexander, Robert Gillaspie, Logan Gillaspie, and Brian Navejas.
The great day ended with the raffle and people happily headed out about 2:00 PM. We want to acknowledge the work of all the volunteers and donors that make this event happen and the folks at Five Dogs that run it so smoothly. And of course we have to thank Jim Roberts for chairing this event and making sure that it turns out magnificently for the participants and the API Scholarship Fund. As he says, “We’re doing this for the kids.”

API Social Sponsorship
The American Petroleum Institute SJV Chapter is actively looking for networking social sponsorships. These networking
socials help to build relationships, market products or services, and promote a positive outlook on the local oil and natural
gas industry.
Sponsoring a social will include the following
• Email distribution of your company name to the API contact list (600+ industry relat-
ed emails)
• Company logo and promotional items can be promoted at sign in/raffle table during
the social
• Social event turnout is typically 40-60 industry related people
• Event will be promoted at API general meeting and API newsletter (600+ industry related emails)
• Possibility to have joint social with SPE (Society Petroleum Engineers) which will include their email distribu-
tion/newsletter promotion
Social Sponsorship Cost
• Cost can range from $600 - $2,000+
• Lower end sponsorships typically do not involve a private room secluded for the event but more of a brewery
type setting providing appetizers or food for guest
• Higher end sponsorships will typically have a private room (petroleum club, 1933) or any place that will accommo-
date the event (providing appetizers/Dinner/Alcohol or what is within the budget)
• We can work with any budget
• If sponsorship costs are too high, we can look to host a co-sponsor social (you and another company) cost split in half
