Presentation Notes
Anchorage School District (ASD) Inclement Weather Reporting Procedure ASD has a deadline of 0530 for public communication of school closures. ASD Transportation Services will start very early in the morning checking roads and gathering information and usually discusses the situation with the ASD Chief Operating Officer (COO) at approximately 0445. The ASD COO then has a conversation with the ASD Superintendent, who is the final decision-maker. By 0530, the ASD Communications Director will distribute information to many different media platforms (TV and radio stations, Facebook, Twitter, and ASD website). Mission Essential Functions (MEF)—functions that organizations must continue throughout or resume rapidly after a disruption of normal activities to achieve DoD Component missions or responsibilities. Failure to perform or sustain these functions would significantly impact DoD ability to provide vital services or exercise authority, direction and control. MISSION ESSENTIAL functions are existing functions that enable the Federal government to continue to provide the necessary, vital services during time of need and require great commitment of the civilian employee. Employees occupying positions that are essential to Agency operations in closure situations are identified and designated by activity Commanders and Directors.

Hello, greetings from USO Alaska! My name is Brett Banks, and I am the Executive Director for USO Alaska. I am in a unique position as a military retiree who spent time in two branches, the Navy and the Army, and I count my service as the most interesting, challenging, and rewarding experiences of my life (aside from raising four wonderful children). After retiring from military service here in Alaska, my family knew this was our forever home and we have been enjoying the great Alaskan outdoors ever since. Prior to my position with USO Alaska, I led the Child and Family Developmental Services clinic at Southcentral Foundation and was Vice President of Education Impact for United Way of Anchorage. My wife and I have been married over 25 years, and in addition to our four children we have one grandson.

What a privilege and honor it is to help connect our service members to family, home and country. I am proud that my career has brought me full circle back to my second family, the service members and family members of our United States military. I look forward to seeing you at the USO.
