This is my favorite time of year. We are almost to Halloween and that means we are just that much closer to Christmas. One of our biggest fundraising events is Christmas Tree Lane. It is one the major events that the Fullerton Elks Lodge is known for in our district. This year is our 50th anniversary for Christmas Tree Lane and is shaping up to be a spectacular weekend.

One of the jobs that the Exalted Ruler is responsible for, is to pick Committee Chairman for all the events and activities at the lodge. Sometimes members come to me and say they have an idea, and unless they also volunteer to run it, I must find the Chairman. I believe that one of my best decisions was to make Heidi Irby the Chairman of the Patriot 9/11 Remembrance. She took it and ran with it and made it wonderful. This Memorial event was a perfect and flawless tribute to all those Ameri-cans and hundreds of First Responders we lost 20 years ago.

As Elks, We Will Never Forget.

Fraternally yours,

Dana Antolin Exalted Ruler

From Our Loyal Knight

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Fall is upon us. Time to get ready for the weather to change and the wonderful holidays. This month has so many sports to enjoy: baseball World Series, basketball, foot-ball, and more. Let’s also congratulate the Emblem Club for their 50th year anniversary.

The Orange Coast District Leading Knights As-sociation is having a Newport Harbor Cruise

on Saturday October 23rd that departs at 7:30 pm. Tickets will include your boat passage, food, fantastic views, and DJ enter-tainment and dancing. See me for tickets.

Mark your calendars for December 3rd, 4th, and 5th this year for our 50th Christmas Tree Lane which will include wonder-ful activities each day! We will kick off Friday with a Preview evening to get into the merriment with caroling the music of the season, cocoa and desserts. Saturday’s special feature is the return of the Black Tie Dinner & Casino night and Sunday will be our full golden 50th Christmas Tree Lane with some extra fun to celebrate! Look for more details in this Bugle and our Wish List to see how you, your club or a business you know can help make this anniversary extra special. We really look forward to an enjoyable celebration for all our members, family, friends, community, and sponsors full of good cheer and brotherly love!

Fraternally Yours,

Marie Nunez, Esteemed Leading Knight CHARITY

From Our Leading Knight

To the Fullerton Elks,

A little about the motto of my Station – Brotherly Love.

The phrase “Brotherly Love’ comes from the Greek word Phila which means ‘love’ or ‘love of brothers’ in Greek philosophy.

Expressing love to another takes various forms. When we begin to understand the significance of Brotherly Love both as a commandment and privilege through God, it will be less difficult to find the eagerness in showing Brotherly Love.

Brotherly Love in the Biblical writing statement in the Holy Book “love they neighbor as thyself” and shows itself as ‘un-feigned love’ from a ‘pure heart’, that extends an unconditional hand of Friendship that loves when not loved back, that gives without getting, and ever looks for what is best in others.

That is Brotherly Love.

See you up at our beautiful Lodge on the hill.

George Neri, Esteemed Lecturing Knight

BRoTHeRlY love

Justice, for many people, refers to Our 9/11, Patriots Day, paid tribute to all that we lost on that tragic day. Heidi Irby put her heart and soul into this event. Thank you Heidi, I am proud to call you my friend.

Recently, I was at an Elk event and a friend stated she would not ask her co-worker to be part of our organization. Why? I asked, and she stated that sometimes we lose

sight of what we stand for and are not very kind. Kindness is defined as the quality of being friendly, generous, and con-siderate. Affection, gentleness, warmth, concern, and care are words that are associated with kindness. Being kind often requires courage and strength. Kindness is an interpersonal skill.

As Elks there are different ways to practice kindness; a kind word, a smile or opening a door, celebrating someone you love, giving honest compliments, refusing to gossip, are all ideas about how to practice kindness and giving back to our communities. Kindness doesn’t cost much, yet it accomplish-es so much.

“An egoist lives in poverty. A kind person lives in abundance.” Maxime Lagacé

FOOD HANDLER CARD CERTIFICATION

This is another great way to volunteer and support our Lodge! Since 2018, our CHEA Elks organization determined that all lodges should have volunteers

obtain their Food Handlers Card certification to ensure safe and healthy operations. This applies to all volunteers at our Lodge that may pre-pare, serve or help in general with any food, drink, or bar-tender service. It is easy, on-line, and doesn’t take long to complete. The Lodge will reimburse all volunteers for the $7.95 cost. The card is good for three years! Volun-teers who obtained this in 2018; it is time to renew too. The website is premierfoodsafety.com for the Food Handlers Card training. Please print or submit a screen capture to our Lodge Secretary for lodge records. For any volunteers that do not have their own computers, please let our Lodge Secretary know and we will set up a special session at the Lodge for you.

It is that time of year when all of the Fall fun starts to happen. Come and join us at The Purple Pig Rally in Hemet beginning Thursday, October 14th through Sunday, October 17th. This is a weekend where Elks raise money for the California Hawaii Elks Major Project, which supports children’s therapy when they cannot get to a local doctor.

The Fullerton Hilltoppers will be cooking dinner Thurs-day, Friday and Saturday nights, so come out for a meal; you will not be disappointed. Also on Saturday is when the Fullerton Elks go out and sell tickets for the 50/50. Lastly, let’s not forget our annual polish auction where Ken Petri will be raffling off a big brown box full of Staff valued at over $900. I am looking forward to seeing as many Elks participate in this weekend’s event. Come on out and let’s have fun!

If you are interested in any event or information, feel free in contacting Clare Johnson at 714-357-2670

PARTNERING FOR POSITIVE IMPACT ON FULLERTON’S MAPLE COMMUNITY

On August 21, 2021, Fullerton Elks Lodge #1993 members joined NPO Solidarity in hosting a Block Party for the Maple community neighborhood. This is part of the Impact Charity Committee efforts to collaborate with Solidarity in providing educational support and after school programming, which was promoted at the event. The afterschool program begins on September 7th and will be held Monday through Thursday from 2:30 pm until 5:00 pm. Children in first through sixth grade from Maple Elementary School will receiving tutoring, home-work assistance, and social-emotional skill building activities. The Lodge has submitted an intent to file for an Impact Grant to support the program through the 2022 year. This will provide opportu-nities for Lodge #1993 members to serve the local community needs. At the Block Party, Lodge #1993 members focused on drug awareness and education. They provided parents with drug awareness materials on vaping and marijuana in both English and Spanish. The children received prize bags with drug awareness coloring books, crayons, and toys. The highlight

of the booth was the drawing, with participants spinning the wheel to determine how many tickets they would receive for family-oriented gift baskets, gift cards and games which were donated by Ma-rie Nunez, Judy Givens and Trudy Nuzum. PER Phil Marquez also donated constellation toys for par-ticipants. Families in attendance were very appre-ciative of our Lodge support at the event and for the 50 previously provided backpacks loaded with school supplies in preparation for the new 2021-22 school year.

Three prize winners shown with Elks members (Lt to Rt) Anna Hanlon, Marie Nunez, Judy Givens, Catherine Villasenor, and Trudy Nuzum. Not shown PER Pete Murrieta.
